Part 2: Israeli-Palestinian conflict

AndHarry · 17/07/2014 11:50

Starting a new thread as the original is almost full.

The original thread is here. It was started on 1st July after three Israeli boys were found murdered, before the murder of the Palestinian boy and the resumption of sustained rocket attacks and Operation Protective edge.

There are lots of excellent posts and links in the original thread showcasing a variety of views. The main consensus was that there is fault on both sides. We also considered various options for people on both sides of the conflict to work towards a lasting peace.

Two paramedics just been killed now trying to reach the most heavily shelled areas.
The death toll set to rise significantly.
Hospital rooms full of the bodies of dead women, children and elderly people.
This is a massacre, a war crime, a genocide.

TheHoneyBadger · 20/07/2014 09:50

i know - they're literally aiming at children, ambulances, UN humanitarian centres etc.

self defense??? ya right.

peoplepleaser I'm desperately sorry for your loss. I'm ashamed that no government is standing up to Israel and I'm sick to my stomach thinking about the suffering inflicted on the Palestinan people.
Please let this end.

Poppet1974 · 20/07/2014 10:00

You see Quivering that's the problem right there, linking to the BBC of all places for a 'balanced' view. The world and his wife know that the BBC is anything but balanced. I know that from personal experience.

ThePeoplePleaser · 20/07/2014 10:01

Thankyou for your condolences. I am in uk yes. I'm leaving the thread as immfinding this too hard to keep reading about. Please keep our Palestinian people in your thoughts and prayers and don't underestimate the horror they are going through right now. X

Poppet1974 · 20/07/2014 10:05

I am keeping them in my prayers PP and hundreds of thousands of others around the world are too. The Palestinian people are not alone, please let your family know that.

I'm sorry for your loss and your family's continued suffering ThePeoplePleaser.

Israeli and Palestinian civilians are suffering. People on both sides experience the fear of being killed, injured, losing their homes, losing their family. I don't think it matters how much you're protected if someone's firing explosives at you, it's still terrifying. At this point though it is the Palestinians who are more likely to actually have their fears realized.

Quivering please could you re-post the link to the BBC article? I can't find the one you're referring to.

Peoplepleaser I am so so sorry for your loss.

I'm shaking with rage and sadness. Overnight there has been a massacre in al-shajaeya. Hundreds injured and dead israeli soldiers went in determined to kill every palestinian they saw.

Photos on Fb and Twitter show bodies of women and children lining the streets. Killed as they tried to run for their lives. The red cross is currently begging israel for a 3 hour gap in the killings to reach those dying and get them to a hospital.

Holocaust, massacre, genocide. Call it what you will it is horrifying. Where are the apologists now? Come on the thread to justify this? Where is the world? Somebody just do something.

Backinthering · 20/07/2014 11:04

Quivering I get the sense you find the suggestion of IsraelI culpability in the massacre of civilians deeply unsettling? You seem to have a strong need for it to be all the fault of Hamas. I don't say this as an attack btw, just trying to understand where you're coming from.

Quivering it was me who said that before you reach out to ant palestinian mothers you need to be able to accept that the palestinian wants freedom from the bastardized regime that you support. It is arrogant to assume you could reach out and try to build bridges otherwise. I speak from experience working on these initiatives. Mindsets like yours would exacerbate the grief of the palestinian mothers you speak of.

Holocaust in sharjeya overnight. Appalling scenes emerging. I am sick to the stomach of israel and it's apologists.

As for the link to the BBC article, almost 100,000 marched in London yesterday. Barely s me ti on on the BBC. This genocide has highlighted for me how biased and corrupt the BBC is.

And yes, somebody please please help these innocent people.

Just seen the pictures on twitter. No words.

sandrapanda · 20/07/2014 11:36

I travelled over 200 miles yesterday to attend march in London yesterday. People from all backgrounds, young and old. Not a hint of anti semitism and v peaceful. Shame on the BBC for not covering something so huge, right under their noses.

plinkyplonks · 20/07/2014 11:39

Dailymail finally have a news article featuring the latest deaths in Gaza and the protests in London:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2698878/Indiscriminate-bloodshed-continues-Gaza-20-Palestinians-killed-Israeli-shelling-hospitals-overflow-women-children.html#comments

Feel free to add comments so we can try and get it up the story chain - I find it hilarious that it is deemed less important than George's first steps. the Bermuda triangle and some golfer's private life!

Humanitarian ceasefire? Well no one can accuse the IDF of not being gracious. Well I hope they choke on their lunch. Bastards.

Whether or not Hamas ordered civilians to stay put or not quivering is not the bloody point. They should NEVER have been shot at. Period.

You should also have mentioned in your message that you are outraged at the deaths. If you are.

cleanmean · 20/07/2014 11:57

Quivering you don't have to preach to me about building bridges. I have volunteered at one such project and from reading your posts it is clear you are sympathetic to a murderous regime. Although I know you do not approve of civilian deaths. The project I worked on tried to work on changing mindsets. It was not there for the whim of apologists who wanted to assuage a guilty conscience. Please find out more about the lives and desperation of those you meet before trying to apportion equal blame and discuss 'nuances'

I do not mean to offend you. I really don't.
