Some people like to pluck feathers out of the sky just to bunfight.

Handcream, I understand your horror. But I just can't see why murder is the charge. Just take a cursory look at the difference between manslaughter and murder on Wiki. Talk about diminished responsibility. She can't have been entirely compos mentis in the circumstance she found herself in. Yes, it is unthinkable to take a life. But we don't know unless we have endured it, whether it is even more unthinkable to tend to three lives of constant pain and degeneration. We don't know what such pressure would do to our mental state. To our ability to think rationally. Why choose to judge and condemn her instead of showing her compassion?

phantomnamechanger · 24/04/2014 19:29

you cannot compare dementia sufferers who have led a long and happy life, with this situation. Awful as dementia is, heart breaking for those family members not recognised, shouted at etc etc, giving up their jobs to become carers. There is some comfort in the wealth of happy memories. This mother did not have that - the only future for those 3 children was a slow but certain deterioration till their young lives ended. Day in day out, every minute of every day she was there caring for them. wondering how long they will be able to laugh and smile and enjoy their toys. we cannot know what utter torture she was going through. Poor woman.

Thanks for shakin, thank you for sharing your story, so bravely, to try to make people think before they judge.

Bowlersarm · 24/04/2014 19:29

Yes I do have children in your house, with you now handcream? I am so pleased you are pretty much own your own on this thread.

handcream · 24/04/2014 19:29

In your view merci....

Actually we can comment on whether this mother did this or not and whether we have children or not. She will be tried in court by people who probably dont have expereince of a disabled child.

Are we now suggesting that only people with disabled children hear the case?

Bowlersarm · 24/04/2014 19:30

....on your own...

Hand cream go and goad elsewhere. It's inappropriate on this thread.

handcream · 24/04/2014 19:31

She has been charged with murder You might not consider that the right charge but that is what she is facing.

Bowlersarm · 24/04/2014 19:32

handcream how many more threads are you going to try and start a bunfight on this evening?

Obstacles · 24/04/2014 19:33

From this link it does look like the baroness had type I or II. By the age of 1 she had lost nearly all movement. Yet through her public service she has made a great contribution.

we can surely sympathise with the mother without making assumptions about the children.

I will be making a donation tonight to the SMA trust in honour of those children.

I'm sorry for those who have had to watch their children suffer - the pain must be unbearable. Thanks

handcream · 24/04/2014 19:33

I am actually pointing out a different view point. We can all come onto threads all agreeing with each other but the fact is that this mother has been charged with murdering her children.

Whether you think that's right or not is pretty irrelevant.

Everylong - please dont presume that everyone thinks the same as you.

My parents and children are equally as important to me. I dont grade them according to importance.

threedeer · 24/04/2014 19:33

I sincerely hope a compassionate jury doesn't find her guilty of murder. manslaughter maybe, but murder? Her extenuating circumstances go on and on. Not that she probably cares at this point, poor thing.

handcream · 24/04/2014 19:35

No one has answered my question further up. What if the father had been accused of doing this. Would we think that was OK?

MmeMorrible · 24/04/2014 19:36

No-one can be arsed hand cream because it's such a dumbass question.

Bowlersarm · 24/04/2014 19:36

I don't think anyone is interested in answering your hypothetical questions, handcream.

MmeMorrible · 24/04/2014 19:37

Bowlersarm you're much more polite than me!

Are we required to answer your question? Confused

fidelineish · 24/04/2014 19:39

handcream This really isn't the place

Bowlersarm · 24/04/2014 19:39

I don't feel polite MmeMorrible! At least handcream is in the minority in her total lack of compassion. Thank God for the other rational MNers.

Bowlersarm · 24/04/2014 19:40

Are you close to your children handcream?

UnderthePalms · 24/04/2014 19:40

Of course no one is saying it's a child so it doesn't count. Hmm

Obstacles · 24/04/2014 19:41

Here's how to donate. You can can send a text and donate £10. They are working to find new treatments and maybe a cure.
