For all of you who don't understand the disgust with the Daily Mail...

Spero · 02/01/2014 17:57

I have just been told they have published an article about John Hemming in which they name me. Both my real name and my user name.

Luckily for me I don't care. Luckily for me I decided long ago I would never put anything on line that I would be ashamed/upset/frightened for anyone else to read.

But for lots of people this would be a complete and utter disaster. People post really personal and sensitive stuff on this site about the worst times of their lives, looking for help and support. They must know that.

Note that they never bothered contacting me to find out which category I fell into.

So if anyone wants to start another wide eyed innocent thread - o I just don't understand why you all hate the Daily Mail so much!

Does this kind of thing help you understand a little more?

I will link to the scum bags but only because I hope people might leave some 'helpful' comments about JH.

Disgusting. Gutter rats

PacificDogwood · 02/01/2014 22:23

Spero, would you?

Yes, I'm happy to sign with my real name too.

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/01/2014 22:23

Will do, Spero

And thanks, curiosity - DM has published my comment now. It's in the 'top comments' category with a grand total of 17 green arrows Grin.

Spero · 02/01/2014 22:24

The comment of one of JH's fanboy's about his 'astonishing statistics' did make me snicker

OP posts:
magimedi · 02/01/2014 22:26

I too will tweak & sign & send.

gertrudetrain · 02/01/2014 22:27

spero it won't affect your qualifying/pro bono? I was looking at the DM for a work thing and gulped when they outed you. Wtaf?

Spero · 02/01/2014 22:29

I hope it doesn't impact on my ability to do public access work. If it does, I will need to be told very clearly why.

these are matters of general public interest which we should all be able to discuss.

OP posts:
onedev · 02/01/2014 22:31

That's shocking Spero that they named you - offering my support.

gertrudetrain · 02/01/2014 22:33

It can't affect it because the only explanation would be that politicians are able to impact on the public access stuff & what kind of road will that lead to? Please pass a letter on to me. I've been outed once in 2007, awful.

I'm sure in media law there's something about revealing someone's place of work needs to be balanced with public interest?

IamtheZombie · 02/01/2014 22:33

Spero, all Zombie did was a bit of hand holding and (hopefully) reassuring chatting. You did the difficult bit.

Groovee · 02/01/2014 22:33

I'll happily send a copy of the letter to my LIB DEM MP.

perfectstorm · 02/01/2014 22:37

I'd appreciate a copy of the draft, please. Will tweak to individualise (and will still pop into the surgery). This man is IMO very plainly unfit for public life, and I would like an explanation of why the party I vote for do not share that view.

nennypops · 02/01/2014 22:40

My MP is Lib Dem, I'd be very happy to write to him.

Spero · 02/01/2014 22:41

Zombie - but the chatting and virtual handholding is a lifeline.

that isn't a wanky exaggeration, I have seen it on loads of threads. When you are in the dark, every little light helps.

I hope people are n't put off posting by this. I was easy to find as I had already 'outed' myself - but remember he also tried to out three others, that is when MNHQ finally pulled the plug on him. I think one of the three didn't care but I don't know about the other two.

OP posts:
PacificDogwood · 02/01/2014 22:43

It's the implied 'threat' of outing somebody I find so vile: "I know who you are" stylee.
And yes, many posters have very good reasons for wanting/needing to remain anonymous.

WestieMamma · 02/01/2014 22:43

You had the courage of your convictions and stood your ground. John Hemmings and the Daily Mail outed you for it. I'd be wearing that as a badge of honour and sticking it on my CV. Although a kick in the nuts might not go amiss

Kewcumber · 02/01/2014 22:56

Vincent Cable is one of my local MP's Spero and I am an adopter. Is he one of th epeople you have already "spoken" to. If not I will happily write to him. We are in a marginal seat so he might actually listen.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 02/01/2014 22:57

People are getting a bit frothy on another thread and the op is getting a bit of a hard time. Have invited anyone interested over here.

gertrudetrain · 02/01/2014 22:59

Yep-it doesn't really matter if you care about being outed or not. Its just an awful thing to do. Imagine if you are a DA victim or someone going through family court. You would be worried about seeking support from a site where an mp is outing people who disagree with them. Disgusting and I have seen JH hounding spero round the boards. He needs serious action against him.

Annonynon · 02/01/2014 23:05

I am so appalled by this

Spero I am so sorry you are being treated like this, I admire you so much though. The world would be a much better please if more people were like you

I can't do much but I'd happily write to my mp if it might help

WestmorlandSausage · 02/01/2014 23:14

I think if as many people as possible could contact their own MPs via email/ facebook / twitter etc expressing concerns that would be a start.

I am a lib dem supporter because of a fantastic lib dem MP in my area.

From what I have read and seen over the last few days Jess Philips who will be running as Labour candidate in the next election against John Hemming has an excellent reputation in her local community for doing her upmost for the community rather than for herself.

Politicians like John Hemming need to remember that the world is changing and old loyalities to parties are dying out and increasingly their potential constituents will be googling candidates rather than reading party bunf. Their online history may be their downfall.

I might be a lib dem supporter now, but if a better candidate came along from another party who I felt would best serve the interests of the community I would support them instead.

I know if I was a Birmingham Yardley constituent who I would be voting for in 2015.

Spero - I know it has been a much longer fight for you than it has been for myself and the other people who have been working away at this for the last few weeks behind the scenes - but people are starting to listen now and anyone with half a brain can give you as much credit as you deserve for never giving up on this.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 02/01/2014 23:25

if anyone doesnt know how to contact their MP...

AlyssB · 02/01/2014 23:26

I have been lurking on these threads for a while now. I think what spero and everyone behind the scenes have done and continue to do is quite frankly amazing. My MP is labour but I will write to them and anyone else that I can regarding this. With my real identity.

CaptChaos · 02/01/2014 23:32

Spero If you were to draft a letter, I would be happy to tweak it and send it on to my admittedly bloody useless MP. JH is an utter moron, as is whichever editor at the DM who thought it would be a good idea to reprint his crayonings.
