For all of you who don't understand the disgust with the Daily Mail...

Spero · 02/01/2014 17:57

I have just been told they have published an article about John Hemming in which they name me. Both my real name and my user name.

Luckily for me I don't care. Luckily for me I decided long ago I would never put anything on line that I would be ashamed/upset/frightened for anyone else to read.

But for lots of people this would be a complete and utter disaster. People post really personal and sensitive stuff on this site about the worst times of their lives, looking for help and support. They must know that.

Note that they never bothered contacting me to find out which category I fell into.

So if anyone wants to start another wide eyed innocent thread - o I just don't understand why you all hate the Daily Mail so much!

Does this kind of thing help you understand a little more?

I will link to the scum bags but only because I hope people might leave some 'helpful' comments about JH.

Oh I see. Sorry I didn't read it properly.

Spero · 02/01/2014 18:20

If 'excellent job' is shorthand for continuing their proud tradition of inaccurate scaremongering and distasteful pandering to the lowest common denominator for their internet clicks, then why yes, I agree with you entirely.

Disgraceful!

DioneTheDiabolist · 02/01/2014 18:23

I am so Angry for you Spero.

JH is a twat, are MNHQ really going to allow him back after this? Anyway it sounds like he has found his home at the shitheap that is the Daily Mail.Angry

SunshineOnACrappyDay · 02/01/2014 18:24

Spero, that's appalling.

Xfirefly · 02/01/2014 18:28

wow , just wow

MrsBungle · 02/01/2014 18:28

Outrageous to name you like that.

CairoPrapstar · 02/01/2014 18:30

As usual, very lazy reporting from the DM. Shower of whites the lot of them.

Spero Thanks

BrownPaint · 02/01/2014 18:30

That's terrible.

How did JH know it was your Twitter account?

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/01/2014 18:31

The utter arses.

I have tried to comment on the article but comments seem to be awaiting moderation.

Only three up so far, one superb one from a 'John in Birmingham' and two 'ho ho' types

CairoPrapstar · 02/01/2014 18:31

Shites!

rpitchfo · 02/01/2014 18:31

forgive me i'm very ignorant around what the law is in this instance.

What have the dailymail actually done wrong legally? People get named in papers everyday without consent. Mumsnet have an ethos of anonymity but it doesn't protect you from disclosure.

It's a shitty thing to do because it's completely irrelevant to the actually story. I do hate that bloody paper..they always purposely miss the point.

CarpeVinum · 02/01/2014 18:31

I am so sorry.

We have worked so hard on not creating casulaities when trying shine a light on what he said and did here.

sorry Thanks ..which are not much compensation. But all I have from this far away.

LakeDistrictBabe · 02/01/2014 18:32

He made some research on twitter to see the ones who were against him or retweeting blog articles that spoke ill of him...

LakeDistrictBabe · 02/01/2014 18:34

It depends, in some cases you need the consent of the person to name people.

CarpeVinum · 02/01/2014 18:35

He has had you in his crosshairs from the word go. I think you are very deep under his skin. Being bested by a woman, over and over and over again... doesn't seem to bring out the nicer side of him.

There are some men you meet that appear to have their inner battery pack powered in good part from their mysogeny flavoured rage.

thornrose · 02/01/2014 18:35

Can we at least ban the hundreds of bloody Daily Mail links on MN now?

DoItTooBabyJesus · 02/01/2014 18:35

Crappy behaviour. Would MNHQ contact them I wonder?

thornrose · 02/01/2014 18:36

That was my knee jerk reaction. Obviously I know that can't happen before some well meaning poster points out why!

CarpeVinum · 02/01/2014 18:37

It's more than that Lake

Spero has been singled out again and again for a reason.

She is pericved as a genuine threat and in turn has become the object of some tightly focused ire.

Spero · 02/01/2014 18:40

JH knew who I was because in 2012 he objected to a comment I made on a thread here.

He wanted to make a complaint about me to my professional body. I agreed it was not fair for me to hide behind anonymity; I ought to have the courage to stand by what I say about people when it is critical.

So I sent him my details via email; he duly complained and his complaint was dismissed save that my professional body were not happy I had used a particular word to describe him. I have promised not to repeat that word but you can rest assured it was NOT 'evil' 'dangerous' or 'stupid'. I will continue to use those words.

thus he was able to name me and find my Twitter account on his blog.

The Mail have simply repeated that information. I do not think they have done anything unlawful but it is pretty shitty behaviour in the context of a story about a man banned from a site for 'outing' posters, in contravention of some pretty obvious forum rules about maintaining anonymity for the vast majority who want it.
