'Mumsnet hijacked by sex discussions' - Telegraph article, your views?

Hi all,

There is an article in The Telegraph today discussing the "risqué underbelly" of Mumsnet, and claiming that the site is "being hijacked by women looking to share steamy details of their private lives, leading to complaints from mothers looking for serious advice."

Justine has commented in the article, saying: "Happily it seems some mothers do still have time for their sex lives and we're pleased to provide a go-to destination for straight answers when you need to ask life's important but often embarrassing questions."

What are your thoughts on this?

OP posts:

So did we ever find out who complained then?
Or does she mean she read it and told her mate that she didn't like it?

I'm pretty sure the OP of the penis beaker thread wasn't disappointed at the lack of 'support'.

Also, who on earth is she to decided what MN should be for? Isn't that Justine's choice?

ouryve · 22/10/2013 19:10

I can't remember when I last saw my underbelly. DS1 is nearly 10, so at least a decade ago.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 22/10/2013 19:12

There's a guy works down our chip shop swears he's Joanna Baxter.

RandallPinkFloyd · 22/10/2013 19:22

But he's a liar, and I'm not sure about you.

AgathaF · 22/10/2013 19:28

DM lazy journalism at its very best here.

They couldn't even be arsed to come up with a new imaginary friend. They've used Joanna Baxter as well Grin.

Yup, we're all horrible half-crazy women. And clearly we should not be having or discussing sex. Mumsnet is for talking about mumthings like nappies, not womanthings like sex. Obviously.

2tired4internets · 22/10/2013 19:49

What the hell, what a weird article. Sure trolls exists but Mn isn't hijacked just because someone posts about sex.
And what's up with the comments, the latest ones are men randomly vomiting up their general hate for women.

Feenie · 22/10/2013 20:08

Ooh, now I am a 'hardcore regular', apparently.

They make us sound like Prisoner Cell Block H Confused

missorinoco · 22/10/2013 20:12

Whilst not a prerequisite, the majority of mums will have had sex, at least once, to become a mum.

It's not Virginsnet.

What do i think of this? I didn't think it was that slow a news day. DM wouldn't suprise me, and I haven't clicked on the link, but the Telegraph?

missorinoco · 22/10/2013 20:12

surprise.

2tired4internets · 22/10/2013 20:19

I don't understand the purpose of the article(s) at all. Was it to bash MN, or to lead trolls here?
Or was it satire.

caramelwaffle · 22/10/2013 20:56

"It's not Virginsnet" Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 22/10/2013 20:58

I rather liked this comment on the DT piece: 'Mumsnet is almost completely full of lefty bints like Samcam'

Confused

I now feel bad for starting a thread panicking about bleach marks yesterday.

I should have known that it would lead to thoughts of anal bleaching with toothpaste and thence to Friday night bumsex shenanigans (and other sinful and tainted acts), leading proper muvvers astray.

SolidGoldBrass · 22/10/2013 21:22

Someone should link poor old Joanna Baxter to the magnificent 50 Shades of Mumsnet thread.

SolidGoldBrass · 22/10/2013 21:26

Ah, I see the Comments on the Fail article are full of the usual whangers who came on here once, said something crass and got the kicking they deserved...

BeCool · 22/10/2013 21:34

It was a very dull article indeed.
Nice comment by MN though Grin

youretoastmildred · 22/10/2013 21:38

I hope we don'g get another pathetic influx of whiny male pervs because of this.

caramelwaffle · 22/10/2013 21:40

We will youre. We will.

Exactly SGB

youretoastmildred · 22/10/2013 21:41

Oh dear, Caramel. [jowly Churchill] "We will fight them on the beakers..."

PacificDogwood · 22/10/2013 21:44

The penis beaker thread was quite dull after the initial Grin I thought.

Why does a national newspaper get het up about what gets discussed on a forum full of Shock adults? Female adults (in the majority) right enough, but adults nonetheless. Kind of. Wimmin do count as 'adults', yes??
Confused
[too much for my pretty little head]
Hmm

caramelwaffle · 22/10/2013 21:46
Grin

I read the first page of "beaker" and - I confess - fund it a little bit boring but with a sense of...uh oh.

The real MN sex threads are to be found over >>>>>
