'Mumsnet hijacked by sex discussions' - Telegraph article, your views?

Hi all,

There is an article in The Telegraph today discussing the "risqué underbelly" of Mumsnet, and claiming that the site is "being hijacked by women looking to share steamy details of their private lives, leading to complaints from mothers looking for serious advice."

Justine has commented in the article, saying: "Happily it seems some mothers do still have time for their sex lives and we're pleased to provide a go-to destination for straight answers when you need to ask life's important but often embarrassing questions."

What are your thoughts on this?

How many bloody journos get on here. What a bunch of whingebags.

MooncupGoddess · 22/10/2013 16:14

I'm quite sure my mother never had sex again after conceiving my brother and me, and that is as it should be.

I only signed up to MN for the gardening tips and now I realise I am amidst a nest of strumpets Sad

ScreamingNaanAndGoryOn · 22/10/2013 16:15

Poor old Joanne Baxter when she logged on to mumsnet
Found a racy underbelly that she simply didn't get
for her kids were all created by immaculate conception
so the talk of sex by others was the ultimate rejection.

I know! She thought, The Telegraph will surely want to know
that there's mothers in the cyberworld who like a risque show
And that when making their children didn't lie there like a board
But went out and got creative with a mask and bungee cord.

MurderOfBanshees · 22/10/2013 16:17

Nice to know there is apparently a list somewhere of acceptable discussion subjects. Hmm

Can you imagine if all we could talk about was nappies, breastfeeding and childbirth?? How bloody dull.

But then, of course, giving birth has rendered us all incapable of worrying our pretty little heads about other things Hmm

BrainSurgeon · 22/10/2013 16:19

Pah

If anything, this will only make MN more popular.

Just out of curiosity, what are these other sites where Joanna Baxter thinks one can discuss one's sex life??!!

ChaosTrulyReigns · 22/10/2013 16:19

Oh friff it.

I'm Joanna Baxter.

JakeBullet · 22/10/2013 16:29

Must confess that I have howled with laughter at some of the comments lol.

MaryZombie · 22/10/2013 16:33

HA HA HA HA HA.

Sorry, was that meant to be a serious article?

I'm very disappointed they don't give "Joanne Baxter"'s real name.

lifeissweet · 22/10/2013 16:36

Who are these scarlet women hijacking mumsnet with their filth?

I mean...will no one think of the children?!

Dunno what the problem is, there's always been quite a bit of sex talk on MN.

LittleWhiteWolf · 22/10/2013 16:39

The reason I got interested in MN was because it wasn't a strict "only talk about our kids" website. It (shock horror!) allowed other topics of conversation. Lets face it, when you're bleary-eyed and sleep deprived with a small baby asleep on your chest for the first time in hours and you daren't move or put the TV on, lest you break the spell, MN becomes a saviour of normalcy, good humour and the real world.
Or was that just me?

Ok Ive been under a rock or some thing. I havent noticed amymore saucy threads than normal.

Also the sex toy thread was before penis beaker so how can it be related. They need to find some real news.

lurkinglorna · 22/10/2013 16:43

sex tip of the day:

if its been especially messy and run out of tissues i use the telegraph (mail is reserved for toilet use)

ouryve · 22/10/2013 16:45

My thoughts?

  1. The telegraph has run out of worthwhile news
  2. Justine has her head screwed on right.
JoannaBaxterLovesBumsex · 22/10/2013 16:46

MNHQ must love the publicity. Personally, I wish the 'news'papers would mind their own - too many twats descend on mass when there's something like this published. Completely ruins the site.

ExitPursuedByABear · 22/10/2013 17:05

I never open the sex threads

Sparklingbrook · 22/10/2013 17:06

Me neither Exit I have the sex topic hidden.

HilaryM · 22/10/2013 17:07

Shock horror. Mums are people too. Hold the front page.

CuttedUpPear · 22/10/2013 17:08

There is a sex topic?
