Hi all,

There is an article in The Telegraph today discussing the "risqué underbelly" of Mumsnet, and claiming that the site is "being hijacked by women looking to share steamy details of their private lives, leading to complaints from mothers looking for serious advice."

Justine has commented in the article, saying: "Happily it seems some mothers do still have time for their sex lives and we're pleased to provide a go-to destination for straight answers when you need to ask life's important but often embarrassing questions."

What are your thoughts on this?

Yeah, Joyful, they issued out all the Oxon Tower nad Centre Parcs threads.

Pah.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 22/10/2013 15:03

Missed out.

Pah twice.

MinesAPintOfTea · 22/10/2013 15:03

Mumsnet is a place where adult women gather to talk about matters that interest them. That's everything from their children to modern poverty and the environment to their relationships and sex lives.

Mothers are women with desires and interests too.

Plus a dozen threads in two weeks (as the article claims): that's less than one a day. We must try harder Halloween Grin

FunnysInLaJardin · 22/10/2013 15:04

we must find Joanna Baxter at once. Tis not I

BaronessBomburst · 22/10/2013 15:04

If they was a thread on how to please your man, would MNHQ move it to the Feminist section please?

tethersend · 22/10/2013 15:06

How do they think we became mothers in the first place?

BaronessBomburst · 22/10/2013 15:07

DM told me it's from eating too many gingerbread men.

StillSeekingSpike · 22/10/2013 15:07

I am now imagining a load of old Telegraph readers- in their tweed suits- eagerly logging onto Mumsnet looking for SEEDY SEX TALES of YOUNG MUMS Wink

Hullygully · 22/10/2013 15:08

IT'S TRUE

IT IS A SEETHING CAULDRON OF DUNGEON SEX

and the Telegraph is a responsible serious bastion of earnest reporting.

Mefisto · 22/10/2013 15:09

I am quite calm generally but this has made me properly steam-out-of-ears Angry. matana your post says it beautifully. I am off to darn my bloomers.

Lastofthepodpeople · 22/10/2013 15:09

Mothers have sex? Oh, the horror.

Daft article is going to mean an increase in one handed surfers trawling mumsnet for the risque underbelly.

Sparklingbrook · 22/10/2013 15:10

Who is complaining? Confused

The whole point of MN and the joy of it is that you can start a thread on whatever you like, serious, silly, embarrassing or (gasp) about sex. Shock

Also you can join in on the thread, but if it's not to your taste, you can hide it and find another one that is, nobody is forced to read anything or comment. There are enough threads to choose from.

Risque Underbelly my arse. Justine's response is perfect-she actually knows what MN is for better than most.

Have the Daily Fail picked up on this yet?

Hullygully · 22/10/2013 15:11

I very much liked the picture that went with the story. The one on the right looked exactly like me.

Another slow day for the Torygraph.

WhoTF is "Joanna Baxter?" I think she might be a MADE UP PERSON

MinesAPintOfTea · 22/10/2013 15:12

tethers Halloween Shock don't tell the telegraph that, it'll make their poor little heads spin.

Sparklingbrook · 22/10/2013 15:15

Hidden behind discussions of nappies, family holidays and breast feeding are explicit threads about sexual practices, how to please a man, bedroom positions and ménage à trois.

In what way are they hidden? Hidden in Active Conversations or hidden in Discussions of the Day? Confused

YY to who is JB.

PiratePanda · 22/10/2013 15:18

Yes: who is Joanna Baxter?

FunnysInLaJardin · 22/10/2013 15:19

Hully papers like the Telegraph do not simply go about making things up. Of course she is real. Come on now Joanna outcha come and identify yourself

ClaraOswald · 22/10/2013 15:20

Sex is usually the reason most of the posters get pregnant and become mothers. Why shouldn't they talk about it? Everyone has sex or has had sex, it's nothing to be ashamed of. If you are ashamed of it, then you need more help than MN can provide.

Scheriously · 22/10/2013 15:20

I have to say I was quite surprised a woman wrote that crap. And then, I wasn't. Because, my god, leave it to a woman to stick the boot into another woman. There are so many great issues raised here - from dickhead bosses making pregnant women's lives hell to well thanks a fucking lot Government, how do my family survive now? Why don't they focus on that? Because that way, they can't bash and degrade women.

Seriously, Mumsnet is a great snapshot of all different lives and circumstances... Part of that happens to include penis beakers! Grin

FunnysInLaJardin · 22/10/2013 15:21

oh and I always mumsnet in a sexy little vest with my m8 in our bedroom where you never know things might start to get a bit hot and steamy...........Fucking ole pervs

Hullygully · 22/10/2013 15:22

"Joanna Baxter" is possibly a construct. Or not.

I don't think women should have sex. It's unladylike and undignified.

EdithWeston · 22/10/2013 15:23

'led to complaints'?

By whom?

Or perhaps The Telegraph thinks its readers cannot contemplate parents liking sex?

Sparklingbrook · 22/10/2013 15:24

So the questions are-

Who is Joanna Baxter?
Who has complained?
Where are the threads hidden?
Who gets to decide what MN is for?

JessePinkmansWitch · 22/10/2013 15:26

God forbid mothers should not only have sex but actually want to talk about it. Halloween Hmm FFS! The journalist must have been having a very slow day to write that article.
