'Mumsnet hijacked by sex discussions' - Telegraph article, your views?

Hi all,

There is an article in The Telegraph today discussing the "risqué underbelly" of Mumsnet, and claiming that the site is "being hijacked by women looking to share steamy details of their private lives, leading to complaints from mothers looking for serious advice."

Justine has commented in the article, saying: "Happily it seems some mothers do still have time for their sex lives and we're pleased to provide a go-to destination for straight answers when you need to ask life's important but often embarrassing questions."

What are your thoughts on this?

I like it. Grin

NomDeClavier · 22/10/2013 17:15

The Telegraph would prefer us all to go the site where sex is only there for making baybeez, which is why it's called baby dancing and not SEX.

I think Joanna Baxgter took a wrong turn when looking for a site about advice on bringing up baby. She meant to go to the pink and sparkly site. Let's hope she finds her way there, after trauma therapy, of course.

JoannaBaxterJudgeypants · 22/10/2013 17:21

I don't know why you are all being so grumpy.

Think of the children sniggers about pearl necklaces

Sparklingbrook · 22/10/2013 17:22

Sparklingbrook · 22/10/2013 17:22

JoannaBaxterLovesBumsex · 22/10/2013 17:24

JoannaBaxterSaysSexIsRude · 22/10/2013 17:25

Actually there has been a real dearth of interesting sex threads recently. I might have to start one later.

AIBU to arse around on MN all night because I CBA to shag my husband?
AIBU to plan my next AIBU thread while shagging my husband?

usualsuspect · 22/10/2013 17:26

Who is Joanna Baxter?

Sparklingbrook · 22/10/2013 17:28

Everyone is under suspicion now.

But perhaps she flounced due to the X rated threads.

JoannaBaxterLovesBumsex · 22/10/2013 17:29

She'll be in the Priory. Without a doubt.

OhAntiChristFENTON · 22/10/2013 17:30

Sorry Chaos I'm losing my touch, - even had help from HoneyDragon with my Hallowe'en name.

PacificDogwood · 22/10/2013 17:30

Oh, how I wish my underbelly was risqué!

Lazy article.

I am most definitely NOT Joanne Baxter Grin

JoannaBaxterLovesBumsex · 22/10/2013 17:31

AIBU to find Golden Showers a bit tedious?

usualsuspect · 22/10/2013 17:33

We are a bunch of coarse women, according to a DM commenter.

lifeissweet · 22/10/2013 17:33

On a quite serious note, though. A few of the sex threads I have seen on have been started by vulnerable women asking if what they are experiencing is normal. On occasion, they are told that, no, it's not normal, they are being abused and should run a fucking mile.

This sometimes results in giving the OP the confidence to put a stop to whatever is going wrong?

Why do women start these threads? Because there is an open and largely non-judgemental attitude to sex (in all its forms!) on this site and they trust that they will be answered in a frank and honest way. I, for one, would have it no other way.

God forbid we go back to the days when no one talked about it and women put up with sub-standard sex lives or - at worse - abusive ones, because everyone is too much of a prude to talk about it.

JoannaBaxterLovesBumsex · 22/10/2013 17:33

AIBU to dye my beef curtains?

lifeissweet · 22/10/2013 17:35

Oh, you are coarse, JB namechangers!

iclaudius · 22/10/2013 17:37

I do think it's all got a bit silly tbh but I'm MN old school. And proud
