George Galloway - insertion not rape

stargirl1701 · 20/08/2012 16:28

Just read a tweet where it is suggested former MP George Galloway feels that once a woman decides to have a sex with a men he can have sex with her subsequently, while she sleeps, as the man doesn't need consent for each "insertion"! In his view, this does not constitute rape. WTF! This is his defence of the allegations against Assange.

Why are you disagreeing with me then LePan ? You're coming across as being as contrarian as GG himself.

He only says any of that stuff because he thinks it will make him popular with certain groups. He would say anything to make himself popular. There is nothing solid about any of it, it's as sneaky as David Cameron doing his schmoozy appeals to Middle England.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 20/08/2012 18:06

I agree, yellow.

I don't think he's sincere, he just likes a good noise.

I reckon he was shitting himself with surprise when it came out that the war really was as dodgy as it turned out to be. I don't think he honestly had a clue.

LePan · 20/08/2012 18:08

I'm not disagreeing with you, yrc. Just added to the 'quazi-rebellious student politics thing by adding the war stuff as being a bit more solid. Which you agree with. So why are you being contrary with yourself?Confused

MmeLindor · 20/08/2012 18:09

I am bemused at those who can separate the politics from his bizarre and offensive comments, if I am honest.

I cannot admire his politics while he minimises rape, courts dictators and abuses his position. And I cannot fathom how he continues find people willing to both defend and elect him.

LePan · 20/08/2012 18:09

oh I seeee...then we are in disagreement about GG then.Grin.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 20/08/2012 18:10

Maybe they don't separate his politics from his comments, Mme?

I think there are quite a lot of people who would say 'oh, he's a great character'. Not to mention some who would agree with his views.

That's why it's so scary. If someone like him can get elected, chances are there are loads more people nodding along to things like this.

MmeLindor · 20/08/2012 18:13

That is true, LRD. Perhaps there are more people than I would like to believe who agree with his views.

He is similar in a way to Boris, in that he creates a persona and uses this false public perception to get elected.

Smoke and mirrors.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 20/08/2012 18:15

Yes, I was thinking he's like Boris in terms of the persona.

Although I don't think I've heard anything remotely this offensive from Boris.

LePan · 20/08/2012 18:20

Boris?? Boris not offensive? It was B. who told the city of Liverpool they should quit whining over the 94 deaths at the Hillsborough disaster, and the death of a Liverpudlian who was beheaded in Iraq. I am sure he has other gems.

MmeLindor · 20/08/2012 18:21

No, that is true. Boris is too savvy, I think.

That bumbling blonde act is only partly hiding an ambitious and v clever person. He would not jeopardise his political future in this way.

Although, every time Galloway comes out with something like this, I think that there is no way he can come back from it. And he does.

Isn't he facing charges at the moment to do with the Sheridan trial? I have a vague recollection of that

LePan · 20/08/2012 18:24

Mme - if you google Boris Johnson offensive remarks or some such you will find a litany.

His main political strength at the moment is that he is not Labour.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 20/08/2012 18:25

That's pretty horrible, pan. Sad

Sorry, I missed those ones.

Mind you, I didn't actually say Boris wasn't offensive, I said I hadn't heard anything 'this' offensive, comparing it to Galloway. If I'd heard those comments I would probably not have said that, of course.

solidgoldbrass · 20/08/2012 18:26

Galloway's a wanker and a woman-hater and always has been. He's the classic white lefty misogynist who thinks he gets all the cool points by being on the side of non-white men, and should anyone point out the misogyny of any non-white male organisation he likes to hang out with, he's horrible to them and basically says 'Women's stuff doesn't matter'.

Assange's basically another one, massive ego on a stick who just considers women as facilities rather than people.

LePan · 20/08/2012 18:28

The bumbling blonde act isn't so much an act. See comments on black people, Irish people , Islam. The jovial exterior hides a deeply unpleasant personae. But then he is a Tory...

CailinDana · 20/08/2012 18:31

Plenty of men believe the same as GG. The guy who raped me while I slept didn't think he'd done anything wrong. In the minds of many men "rape" means holding someone you don't know down and forcing them to have sex. They actually think just hopping on your sleeping partner and using their body is fine.

Note GG's language - he said Assange should have asked "Do you mind if I do it again?" No mention of we, the woman is just a body who lets a man "do" sex to her.

I know. There's nothing good or pretty about revenge but really some awful part of me wants these men to know what it's like to go to sleep never knowing when someone will insert something into their bodies against their will.

That's really bad I know. :(

Lottapianos · 20/08/2012 18:51

Understandable though elephants

MmeLindor · 20/08/2012 18:53

I hadn't heard those comments either. Wonder why they have not been more widely reported.

I think, before making comments like this, politicians should actually read the Sexual Offences Act 2003 and find out what ACTUALLY constitutes rape in this country. I don't think it's excusable that a politician doesn't appear to know what rape is and tries to dismiss it as 'bad sexual etiquette'.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 20/08/2012 18:59

Even worse really when Kenneth bloody Clarke did it. Justice indeed. Angry :(

MmeLindor · 20/08/2012 19:00

Joyful
Perhaps it was when I was abroad.

Yes, agree that 'insertion' is minimising the horror of rape.
