How plausible do we find John Terry's defense?

That he was only repeating words Anton Ferdinand has accused him of saying.

I can't imagine saying those words ever. I'd be very upset to be accused of saying them, but I wouldn't repeat them in my denial, but then I'm not John Terry....

I wasn't at the trial, but I was at the game where it happened. Chelsea were playing local rivals QPR and by this time were 1-0 down and had two players sent off after the team had collectively lost their tempers. John Terry had already tried to get a reaction from Paddy Kenny before he engaged in the sledging with Anton and I'm convinced he was trying his best to get a reaction and even up the numbers. Why the poor prosecution didn't raise this as an issue, or counter the defense case of John Terry's unflappability with his recent kick out in the Champions league is a mystery.

The summing up by the court came as close to giving a "not proven" verdict as we can get south of the border, and as has been said before has simply given more fuel to the little-Englanders and their persecution complex. I do think it should probably never have gone to court, it should have been the gutless FA. BTW, if I had admitted saying those words at the game, I would have been banned from the ground.

As for Anton's character. Given the grief he and his family have had to endure. The foul messages, the death threats, the thinly veiled racist chanting from Chelsea supporters, I think throughout the case he's behaved impeccably.

As for being offended at being called a white anything? I'm a pinkish olive, not white, but language is never neutral enough to simply be descriptive is it?
