How plausible do we find John Terry's defense?

Condover · 09/07/2012 12:35

That he was only repeating words Anton Ferdinand has accused him of saying.

I can't imagine saying those words ever. I'd be very upset to be accused of saying them, but I wouldn't repeat them in my denial, but then I'm not John Terry....

Did he have to be a witness then? He had no choice? He couldn't have said no?

I love the way everyone's who been defending this family have avoided giving their views on the choc ice incident...

Anyway Anton's not come out of this smelling of roses... Olooks like they're both now going to be invetigated by the FA...

AmberLeaf · 15/07/2012 19:19

Plus I believe he has used twitter to call Ashley Cole a 'choc-ice' today which is a racist term

No he didn't. You clearly either didn't read it or don't 'get' twitter. Rio didn't call AC anything.

happygilmore · 15/07/2012 19:23

Of course he couldn't say no! How on earth would we have a judiciary if people could just decide they didn't fancy being a witness?!

donnie · 15/07/2012 19:24

well in that case the BBC is wrong then!

although really I couldn't care less - they are all mired in filth IMO!

happygilmore · 15/07/2012 19:52

sorry meant judicial system*

limitedperiodonly · 15/07/2012 20:42

ironman

I have total recall everything that happened over the last 3 days.

But enough about me.

What did MNHQ make of your complaint about that gross bully Pan?

And how is your brown husband feeling about the way you've been traduced?

Not to mention your mixed race dog? And your offspring?

Or have I got that mixed up?

Do tell.

ThePan · 15/07/2012 21:24

Just back from the cinema and it's been busy!

Is this thread going to last until at least the FA findings are published, and both of them are fined/banned for bringing the game into disrepute (as if it isn't already firmly there.)
ironman, have you got a mixed race dog now? Wow.

EldritchCleavage · 15/07/2012 22:19

If Anton had declined to give evidence he would have got a witbess summons. Disobey that, you go to prison. I am surprised people don,t seem to knpow this. And whatever you think of footbaLlers, threatening to kill them and their families is not ok.

ironman · 16/07/2012 12:00

Rio Ferdinand Now calls Ashley Cole a "choc ice" on Twitter. This is a very offensive term, like Coconut, to mean that Ashley Cole is black but is white inside. How insulting is this to Ashley Cole? Whose mother is white? How insulting is to Rio Ferdinand's mother who is white?

Should Rio Ferdinand be hauled by his football shorts to Westminster Magistrates Court and be accused of racially insulting Mr. Cole?

No I'm sure most of you would not like to see Rio Ferdinand face a trial of 5 days, as John Terry has.

All of this has been completely blown out of all proportion.
These are footballers exchanging insults, as they like to do. They are not articulate, and John Terry showed this in court.

Lepan, do you want Rio Ferdinand hauled before the courts of his insulting words? No probably not.

The whole case would be laughable, if it not been brought to court and the taxpayers of this country had to pay the cost!

Lepan my husband has never been called a dog to my knowledge, although he tells me he was called a malteser at school, I had to inform him that now also we have white maltesers (anyone tried them?)

As I said from the beginning the FA should have dealt with Terry, Ferdinand, and if necessary now Rio Ferdinand.

I think both Terry and Anton Ferdinand have been through enough and at the matter should be dropped, but I'm sure some of you out there would like the witch-hunt to continue. Sad.

DontEatTheVolesKids · 16/07/2012 12:03

I had a snicker at the irony of that, too, Ironman.
Cannot be asked to follow all the details, but don't think RF ever made a formal legal complaint in the Terry case (?). So not precisely hypocritical of him even if very ironic.

ironman · 16/07/2012 12:09

Or did you have a snicker bar? You are definitely getting hauled before the beak!Grin

ironman · 16/07/2012 12:18

I think what it is called in lay persons terms is known as Rio Ferdinand having a 'right cheek'. But who really cares what footballers say to each other?

For me they can say what they like to each other, as long as they don't end up in court.

I personally have much more important things to do than type about these idiots, like buy two bedside tables from Ebay. Have a nice day. Smile

ironman · 16/07/2012 12:22

Sorry, layperson.

ironman · 16/07/2012 12:27

Limited my husband has big brown shoulders and he can take any insult people throw at him or me. If I couldn't take it, I would not say it then, would I? Particularly on the PC site known as MN!

Do you think Rio Ferdinand should appear in court for his twitter remark about Ashley Cole?

ThePan · 16/07/2012 12:30

ironman,

RF didn't call AC a choc-ice. Your repeated willingness to appear really stupid is wearing a bit thin, though very convincing.

Nancy66 · 16/07/2012 12:34

someone tweeted to Rio F about Ashley Cole being a 'choc ice' - but Rio F did repeat the phrase and laugh at it.

Now he is trying to claim the expression means 'fake' which is absolute bollocks of course.

ironman · 16/07/2012 13:32

ThePAn. As Nancy66 rightly says Rio Ferdinand repeated the words 'Choc-ice'about Ashley Cole, he then laughs about it. he knows full well the words do not mean fake.

The word means the same as calling a black person a 'coconut' or an 'Uncle Tom' None of which my husband has been called, although as I says he has been called a malteser. (he was mortified by that Grin.

Lepan you are being very tiresome, and you are stopping me from buying my tables. So I will say that you will have to slug this one out with someone else...

Until we meet againWink
p.s. Sure you don't fancy me?

CharlieBoo · 16/07/2012 16:39

He laughed after his friend posted the comment on his twitter site... Then he re-posted it apparently and deleted it 40 minutes later...

AmberLeaf · 16/07/2012 17:02

The whole exchange was still there last time I looked.

CharlieBoo · 16/07/2012 17:08

I'm not one of his followers AL Wink but from what I've read he re-posted his friends comment and then deleted it, but his friends comment is still there....

AmberLeaf · 16/07/2012 17:48

I don't follow him either. You can read anyones tweets unless they are set to private.

limitedperiodonly · 16/07/2012 19:34

ironman If someone wants to make a complaint to the police about Rio Ferdinand they can. And if the CPS can make a charge out of it that would have a reasonable chance of a conviction and finds it in public interest to pursue then that seems fair to me.

The only thing I can equate it to from my experience would be if someone accused me of being a traitor to my sex if I publicly defended a man who'd sexually abused a woman through words or deeds.

I can't see how that would result in a criminal charge but in that instance: if the cap fits.

I couldn't ever imagine doing that no matter how much I might like the abuser for other attributes.

Of course, if they were my line manager too, as Terry is to Cole, it might make doubly awkward. Maybe that had a bearing. Terry has form for throwing his weight about with underlings at Chelsea and England so who knows?

Anyhow, so you and your 'husband' aren't now going to complain about Pan's exercise of free speech though you said you were? Just wanted to clear that up.

limitedperiodonly · 16/07/2012 19:50

btw I don't know what's the correct ethnic slur against a white person who defends a black or Asian person who calls white people 'fucking white cunts' but I wouldn't do that, or blame anyone for pulling me up on it either.

ironman · 16/07/2012 21:42

Limited. I would not like Rio Ferdinand to have to go to court for what he has said. Some members of the public have complained to the police about him,
(only a small number I think). As much as I'm not keen on footballers I still think they have the right to free speech.

It's not nice, its not pleasant and some of those who play football were shown in a very bad light this week.

What I can't understand is when a player deliberately hurts another player (seriously as one did recently to a Chelsea player) my ds has just informed me it was Gary Cahill, whose jaw was broken. The player who did it did not even get sent off, he just received a yellow card.
Cahill was deliberately pushed into the goalie by this man (my son does not know his name).

This sort of behaviour sets such a bad example to young children.

I don't know that there is an ethnic slur for what you describe. it's annoying as there probably is one. Might google it!
Have a nice evening.
Goodnight.

limitedperiodonly · 16/07/2012 23:11

ThePan aggressiveness and stupidity aren't mutually exclusive states.

Why oh why won't someone think of the children and Chelsea players and confectionery and dogs and people from diverse backgrounds who are passionately concerned with free speech?

Have a nice evening.
Goodnight.
