AngrySadSadAngry.

I can't bear to hear another story of a beautiful baby dead because his mother wasn't capable of caring for him and social services weren't up to the job. When will they learn?

Here.

Your link doesn't work - what story?

ImFab · 02/02/2011 18:48

Hang on, sorry.

That is really distressing - dont click on the link if you are easily upset.

balloonballs · 02/02/2011 18:54

Might be an idea to get a warning added to the op.

That is beyond distressing.

ImFab · 02/02/2011 19:00

Sorry. I will report myself.

Maybe the fact she has "baby dead" in the title should be enough to warn off those of a sensitive nature.

TotorosOcarina · 02/02/2011 19:05

That poor baby lived a 10 minute bus ride away from me :(

its horrid, absolutly horrid.

I feel like if I'd have somehow known (?!) i could have gone and 'saved' him,

was crying to DH about it earlier :(

balloonballs · 02/02/2011 19:06

I know two but to be fair the details in this case do go beyond plain "baby death in sad circumstances".

Whatever, just a suggestion nobody has made me boss.yet

falsemessageoflethargy · 02/02/2011 19:07

I saw this article earlier and cant cope with it at all - they need to be faster to take these children into care - and I never thought I would think that. Sad

ImFab · 02/02/2011 19:07

I have reported myself. I have asked that MNHQ add something in or delete the thread.

I'm of a very stoic disposition but couldn't read past the first paragraph (saw it earlier btw, not having a go ImFab) but SS have a bloody poisoned chalice of a job.

My anger & horror is firmly directed at the mother. I cannot find words to describe her, so I won't try.

Goblinchild · 02/02/2011 19:08

I agree, when in doubt children should be taken into care. It might not be ideal for a number of reasons, but at least they will be alive.

yogididabooboo · 02/02/2011 19:09

A serious case review into his death by Manchester Safeguarding Children's Board found no single agency was to blame for failing to protect Alex but his case was poorly managed throughout.

rather tired of everything being SS fault on here

yogididabooboo · 02/02/2011 19:11

and for those claiming SS should take children sooner, no doubt you will be the same people who are shouting in anger because some poor innocent family have been through hell due to the over zealous social worker.

Fayrazzled · 02/02/2011 19:12

Personally, I don't think the read should be deleted. It is very distressing but it's no good pretending these things don't happen. They DO happen and we need to make sure they STOP happening.

Goblinchild · 02/02/2011 19:12

SS can't win, someone will always be outraged, whatever decisions they make.

'and for those claiming SS should take children sooner, no doubt you will be the same people who are shouting in anger because some poor innocent family have been through hell due to the over zealous social worker.'

Not me. I think the priority should always be the child and have got into hot water on many a thread for saying too much emphasis is placed on the needs and rights of the adults, even when they've been totally irresponsible.

ImFab · 02/02/2011 19:14

My take on this is I was in the care system since I was 2 and they messed up big time causing me severe harm of every sort. I am sure you can understand my frustration, sadness and desperation that 30 years later social services still make such huge mistakes.

Totoros, I know...I know Baguley as well.

How could they not think he was at risk, he'd already been seen once in a similar situation.

Poor, poor little child. I hope he didn't suffer too much.

Goblinchild · 02/02/2011 19:15

Would you rather be dead?

IngridBergmann · 02/02/2011 19:16

Goblin? Hmm

yogididabooboo · 02/02/2011 19:16

i can assure you that in every single profession a mistake will be made every single day.

Bu im not sure what it is people want.

SS do not have crystal balls. they do not have spy cams in peoples houses. they are unable to influence bad people into behaving around their children.

there is only so much they can do.

the only people who fucked up and harmed a child is the person that hurt him!

GlynistheMenace · 02/02/2011 19:17

I too am rather tired of Social Services getting the blame thrown at them when (unless I'm badly mistaken) all we have to go on is a report from some internet news report.

It's the parent's fault.

No-one elses.

Social Services/HCP whomever might have failed in some way but they are not to blame.
