Hi all I am just posting this in order to keep Joannes name in the public domain- This case is very mysterious and so far the police have no real leads although her parents suspect she has been abducted!

The link is below-

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1341106/Distraught-parents-Jo-Yeates-plead-help-finding-missing-architect-daughter.html

Look, Feenie, everyone knows you are very upset and cross about people speculating.

I think our point would be best served by making sure you don't up the tone of the thread by using aggressive, rude language and throwing around remarks that are inaccurate regarding other posters.

It doesn't make things better.

We all understand what you are getting at. I've only posted ths morning in order to correct things which were posted last night. I have not been aggressive or rude. I have even apologised for doing so.

I don't want to argue with you or with anyone else, and I am happy to respect your point of view, but you are making it very difficult for people to get away from the arguing by saying things that upset them (morons, stupid etc.) It's inflammatory.

If you are able to stop doing this then I am sure nobody will object to your defending yourself, citing your POV etc etc.

It's the way in which you've been doing it which has inflamed things iyswim - not the point you're trying to make which is totally valid. Smile

Flightattendant29 · 31/12/2010 14:32

Not our point, your point - sorry.

Nevereatyellowsnow · 31/12/2010 14:47

Sorry Feenie I should not have addressed my comment to you personally. The point I was trying to make was the same as perfectstorm's (although ps managed to do it much more eloquently Wink )

I'm going to step away from this thread now and I think it may be time for you to do the same.

LovelyJuggly · 31/12/2010 15:28

I see there are people with the same intelligence as those who lynched Leo Frank. Google will help those who are uneducated about the case.

LovelyJuggly · 31/12/2010 15:30

Now what toppings were on this pizza? This could hold the key to the whole case. The Sun is asking people to phone in to tell them what toppings Mr. Jeffries likes on his pizza.

MummieHunnie · 31/12/2010 17:14

Has anyone got any further clarification as to the LAW from mnhq of posting after the warning to the press, to which internet sites are party to?

mrsoo7 · 01/01/2011 08:48

Wouldn't put much store by what the AG has been saying he considers the Press on the whole do fair reporting - well considering his so called 'warnings' to the press they don't appear to have taken much notice if todays headlines are anything to go by!

PercyPigPie · 01/01/2011 21:28

Part of a statement by Jo Yeats's family: '"Jo's life was cut short tragically but the finger-pointing and character assassination by social and news media of as yet innocent men has been shameful.

"It has made me lose a lot of faith in the morality of the British Press and those that spend their time fixed to the internet in this modern age.

"I hope in the future they will show a more sensitive and impartial view to those involved in such heart-breaking events and especially in the lead-up to potentially high-profile court cases.'

Still think this should be deleted.

perfectstorm · 01/01/2011 21:30

Seconded.

And how awful, to have added to their pain.

Goblinchild · 01/01/2011 21:31

So, the wisest and calmest response from those most closely involved. What admirable people they are, let's hope everyone reads and learns from their example.

VictoriasLittleKnownSecret · 01/01/2011 21:34

This thread has made me feel like leaving MN (first time) because of being linked with the behaviour displayed.

It's too late to pull it. Damage already done.

Please can we all demonstrate some respect and decency by continuing to post (if at all) showing some respect for the situation and the family

perfectstorm · 01/01/2011 22:00

The statements in full are here.

Perhaps it's worth pointing out that the snippet quoted above is by her boyfriend. Showing himself infinitely more graceful and dignified than those who thought it appropriate to point the finger in those first few days. He also links to a charity which helped them search for her, and asks for donations.

twolittlekings · 01/01/2011 22:10

I think the guardian has put it quite well when it says that the reason why people and the press have picked up this awful case is because Joanna is someone that people can relate to. She was a normal happy bright girl with her whole life ahead of her. Yes people are murdered every day and her death is of course to the other families of victims no different in terms of the pain and grief it causes but people have identified with this for whatever reason.

If it is the landlord then actually as a few others have expressed on here that for me it is even more depressing. This poor girl was (and again it is only if the landlord is guilty) preyed upon in her own home. The last bastion of safety. If he did it he used his power to abuse her trust and it will make anyone who rents from someone else feel uneasy at least for a while. It's just horrible. I feel very sad.

noddyholder · 01/01/2011 22:14

The Landlord has been released

DuelingFanjo · 01/01/2011 22:15

link to release story

Not been charged then.

violethill · 01/01/2011 22:17

Agree.

I am in awe of the dignity and wisdom shown by the family and boyfriend at a time when they are suffering so deeply. Their statements are inspirational, and painted such a life enhancing picture of Joanna.

Reading their words makes me feel that despite the horror of what's happened, the family and boyfriend have the strength of character to get through this without being reduced to just empty bitterness.

wannaBe · 01/01/2011 22:20

Well the landlord has been released.

Guess the vultures will have to find someone else to prey on then ey.

Feenie · 01/01/2011 22:22

And they will. Poor sod. Sad

IslandIsla · 01/01/2011 22:35

He has been released on police bail

perfectstorm · 01/01/2011 22:39

Which means not charged.

Feenie · 01/01/2011 22:42

But the police don't seem close to charging anyone, do they? And if they don't charge him, his life is pretty much wrecked due to irresponsible press coverage and internet hysteria. As her boyfriend said, ""Jo's life was cut short tragically but the finger-pointing and character assassination by social and news media of as yet innocent men has been shameful." He doesn't even mention the fingerpointing at himself and other family members, but that makes it even worse.

Meanwhile, that poor family have to sit and wait without knowing anything except that their daughter is dead.

perfectstorm · 01/01/2011 22:46

I agree - my point was that police bail is an irrelevance, it just means they want to keep tabs on him (could be as simple as he has a home overseas and he might understandably want to go there, and they want to stop him). If they had evidence, they'd charge. They plainly don't - yet as you say, people will assume no smoke without fire unless/until they charge someone else.

This happened as has been said in Ipswich, and rather more tragically with poor Colin Stagg. It's why all this "harmless speculation" is nothing of the kind.

I really hope a lot of people donate to that charity. It might help those poor people to know others care for their loss, rather than nitpick at it.

PercyPigPie · 01/01/2011 22:54

Greg Reardon: "I hope you all have a happy new year. We look out into 2011 with a fresh approach to life in Jo's memory and hope that, for her sake, justice is found swiftly."

Gosh, I'm not sure in his shoes I could be big hearted enough to wish everyone a happy new year after all he has been through.

seeker · 01/01/2011 22:57

Don't worry- the landlord is obviously guilty because people on here who are never wrong thought there was something funny about him from the start. His eyes were too close together or h looked shifty or something. Now pull the bloody thread, mumsnet.

chimchar · 01/01/2011 22:57

They really are so very generous of spirit. I still just feel so very deeply for them. as a parent I can't begin to imagine how they are even waking up in the morning. So so very sad.
