Just wanted to send loads of love and support to the family.

It seems they covered him up with an old tent.
I remember when I first started Primary school, I was 4.5 and my sister was nearly 6. We walked to school along this little lane with hedgerows on both sides. No adults accompanied us, just other Primary school children. That was in the early 80's.

Sorry if this thread degenerated.... I'm not going to read down it as I was a bit taken aback by the reaction TBH and took a breather.

Just reading about his missing bag brought tears to my eyes. His little pencil case and things. Kids are so proud of their back-to-school new stuff.

What makes me really angry is that there's no 'life w/o parole' here, so even if they do find the sick, twisted f&^% who did he won't be getting life w/no parole, even tho he gave the kid a death sentence.

Hope they catch the b^st&*d who did this and he gets beaten mercilessly in prison until he is driven insane or worse.

It's news stories like this that leave me dazed and uncomprehending at the world.

Oh lord, as the one who posted the link can I please just say that absolutely no criticism of the mother was intended - just sympathy.

Janh · 23/08/2005 17:03

I mean because she will wish she hadn't, not that she shouldn't have.

Janh · 23/08/2005 17:07

SueW, I wondered about the older brother too but when I reread I noticed the actual wording was

"Mr Martin said Rory's mother Michelle, 41, had dropped him and his older brother off for school on Thursday.

She stopped in a bus layby in Deans East, where Rory kissed her goodbye and made his way through an underpass and into Westwood Park."

which I took to mean they were dropped off separately - his older brother is probably at a different school?

It's just awful. The lunchbox upset me too, HMo2.

tabitha · 23/08/2005 17:47

HappyMum,

I know the area a little bit and I don't think the place where Rory was dropped off is sinister in any way - certainly not a 'pick up' area as far as I know.
However I'm sure as in most towns 'strange' men are seen if only in the sense that men who don't live in the immediate area do use the paths iykwim.

sweetkitty · 23/08/2005 17:55

His poor poor family this is so tragic, you would think an 11 year old would be safe out on his own compared to say a 5 year old. And in broad daylight in a quiet town.

I really hope they get the b that's done this to him before he does it to any other children.

jamboure · 23/08/2005 17:58

I like loobie am only 10 mins away and kaz is 5 mins away.

Livingston is generally a really nice area, it is rondabout city and very very busy roads, I totally agree with loobies comment regarding underpasses, there are as many of them as there are roundabouts.

Strange men seen around is quite alarming but i suppose when something like this happens it's "after" the tragedy we all remember things.

All th if only's don't change this horrific thing but i so wish they would then an innocent wee lad would be at home playing his gameboy or whatever it is wee lads do.

the EVIL people that have done this should have his parents let loose on him/her

It is really subdued around here now. Even though my dst go to a nursery class in Linlithgow I noticed the school gates were packed with parents, no one was letting their child walk home. There was even a police car sitting there although I doubt very much it would have anything to do with recent events but everyone was glancing at it.

Really, really awful thing. I feel so sorry for his parents and family and hope this evil is caught soon. But as has been said the s* who did this won't get the punishment they deserve!

tabitha · 23/08/2005 20:59

It's the same here (near Falkirk) lots more parents at ds's school gates usually there are hardly any as lots of the kids get 'bussed' in. Might have something to do with it being the first day back at school, but even still..

Goldfish · 23/08/2005 21:01

This is just awful. I have a 10 and 11 year old ds and they both go out by themselves. They don't go far, just to friends and walk to school and so on, but it doesn't really matter how far away they are, they are still out there. They were listening to the police earler, saying that you should always stay with your friends and so on and I was really drumming everything into them to stay safe, even though I have done it many times before. This is when I wish they were still tiny and I never let them out of my sight. I feel so so sorry for this family and can't stop thinking about them.

jamboure · 23/08/2005 21:07

police presence in livingston in general is very high, esp deans area.

Hope they get the b very very soon, feel so nervous with my kids playing outside and I am with them as they are so young.

Now they're suspecting Rory might have been killed by . . . other children. Man, that is SICK!

Monstersmum · 24/08/2005 12:39

Have to say I did wonder if it wuld turn out to be other kids. Hadn't he been bullied at school? It occurred to me that the bullies may have been responsible.

I don't know which is scarier - adult or children.

handlemecarefully · 24/08/2005 13:08

Definitely children is scarier. Horrific

ssd · 24/08/2005 13:13

When it said in the news police are patrolling Rory's school playground to calm the children's fears, I wondered if they were trying to hear what the children are saying and if it might lead to them finding out what happened....

Sincerely hope I'm totally wrong.

expatinscotland · 24/08/2005 13:16

They still have no determined whether he was suffocated or strangled, there was that little injury to the body. NO signs of struggle. Both facts point to the distinct possibility that Rory knew his killer(s) at the least. Whether or not the perpetrator(s) was another child/children, however, is definitely playing a role in their investigation.

'The greatest enemy is almost always within', as the saying goes.

This is horrific. My heart goes out to the family. Can't imagine what they are going through.

jamboure · 24/08/2005 18:47

hopefully they are closing in on the animal that took this innocent life.

It is scary to think this could have been a child who done this awful awful thing.

KAZ09 · 24/08/2005 20:55

Today, I went up to the area where flowers are being laid and was very overcome, especially when I read a note from a young boy which went something like this "I cry every night thinking about what has happened to you. I know that you are up there looking down at me and I'm so glad you and I were best friends".
What more can I say.......

expatinscotland · 24/08/2005 21:01

Geez, Kaz. I can only imagine how his poor family feels! He was someone's baby, who meant as much to someone as all our kids do. Who could have done this? I know they have to keep quiet whilst the investigation continues, but it must be awfully hard for those involved in the investigation. Reminds me of that awful Jodie Jones murder.
