Can't imagine what his family are going through but PLEASE!!!!!! if there is a god make him be found safe and well

Just wanted to send loads of love and support to the family.

QueenOfQuotes · 23/08/2005 14:29

JT - neither would I...

tassis · 23/08/2005 14:33

please please can we not criticise the family for dropping their son off at this underpass.

remember this happened in a peaceful scottish town where an underpass might be unsafe at night, but should be quite safe to walk in daytime.

Toothache · 23/08/2005 14:35

Well said Tassis. There are loads of places like that round here. None are particularly menacing...... until something like this happens. Don't think it's that great a time to be insinuated that his Mum is to blame.

QueenOfQuotes · 23/08/2005 14:36

who's criticising???

We're just saying we wouldn't go under that underpass.

There's underpasses in this town I avoid too - doesn't mean I don't see plenty of other people walking under them without any worries - but I wouldn't walk under it.

Toothache · 23/08/2005 14:42

QoQ - Far be it from me to say this..... .... how's about a bit if compassion?

This is VERY close to home for a lot of people on MN. My Mum and Dad live in a village where people don't lock their doors (or car doors)..... and your kids make their own way to school.... some have to walk through woods. Its just the done thing here and not thought of as irresponsible or dangerous in any way. We don't know what happened so please lets not jump in with assumptions that this happened because Rory's Mum dropped him off at that underpass!

That wee boy has died... probably horribly at the hands of some man/men.

Gomez · 23/08/2005 14:42

You can see out the otherside of the underpass fgs, what is so wrong with it? Also please remember it would be busy with other kids heading to school and Livingston is a new town and as such has tons of these hideous things.

JT and QoQ your implied criticism was uncalled for.

Gomez · 23/08/2005 14:42

Sorry cross-posting

Toothache · 23/08/2005 14:43

QoQ - Honestly... why say it if it wasn't a criticism?

QueenOfQuotes · 23/08/2005 14:44

Oh FGS - I know a kid has been murdered - i'm not that stupid.

Does that mean people are no longer allowed to make a general comment about them not walking to walk under that underpass (or any other underpass actually - I ALWAYS avoid them like the plague).

tassis · 23/08/2005 14:48

hey, QoQ, really didn't mean to argue with you

sorry if i've offended you.

JoolsToo · 23/08/2005 14:52

the only criticism I can see is that of QoQ and myself.

Toothache · 23/08/2005 15:02

Just carry on then.... as long as you 2 get your point across that you wouldn't have walked under there..... thats obviously VERY important to you to voice that.

So now you have.

Don't get tetchy about people commenting on it being a tad insensitive..... when it clearly is meant as a criticism to his Mum.

I thought I was argumentative, but Jeeeeesus there really was no need for this!

I think I'll move over to the other thread now and let this one carry on being used to thrash out what his Mum did wrong.

JoolsToo · 23/08/2005 15:16

I'm a bit at a loss really - JanH posted that his mum had dropped him off at an underpass - and inserted a link to a picture of it - I responded to it. You could ask was there any need for that?

No-one is criticising his mum - you read what you wanted into it, I can't convince you.

This is a tragic story with tragic consequences and I cannot imagine what the family are going through - not in a million years and I wouldn't be so insensitive as to criticise anyone.

I never go anywhere near any underpasses or go out alone at night - that's just me and I think its ok to say so.

Now, I don't want this thread to go all bad so that's my last word.

Loobie · 23/08/2005 15:20

and if his mum had sent him across the road and he had been hit by a car that would have been her fault too !!
I live in livingston only 10 mins away from where this boy was found,we have loads of these underpasses here especially near schools and such like,we have a very busy road network in livingston hence the need for these underpasses to keep people safe from the road.
Rory has been suffocated and there is now a murder enquiry in our area which i for one find very scary indeed ,we have police stationed at every school gate in the livingston area, very very unnerving indeed!!!

nailpolish · 23/08/2005 15:23

loobie i used to work in livingston, and its practically impossible to get anywhere without going through an underpass, i agree with you

i dont think children are safe anywhere, that includes inside the school. we cant superglue them to our sides unfortunately

Toothache · 23/08/2005 15:28

Joolstoo - FWIW The argumentative comment wasn't directed at you. Sorry I lumped you both together in my post.

Good point about the road Loobie. If he had been bundled into a car whilst crossing the road it would have been "Why didn't she drop him off at the underpass".

It must be horrible round your way just now Loobie. I just hope they catch who ever did this verrrrrry quickly.

QueenOfQuotes · 23/08/2005 15:29

FFS - no-one here said it was the mothers fault!!

kkgirl · 23/08/2005 15:30

I think this is such an awful tragedy, and at 11 yrs I am letting my son have more and more independence and its so hard, but this boy was dropped near school and should have been safe, poor boy, and its those Bs that have done this awful thing who are to blame, they should lock them up and throw away the key, how anyone can hurt a child, boy or girl I don't know, they're pure evil.
His poor family, I can't begin to imagine how they feel.

handlemecarefully · 23/08/2005 15:32

But then why was it aimed at QoQ (who said nothing different to JT)?

Oh, I shouldn't get involved...and am not taking 'sides' (sorry, that sounds a bit playground)... But hate to see people arguing.

chloe55 · 23/08/2005 15:37

It's just so sad really - I am not going back THAT many years when I say I used to walk through a woods, over a stream and across 2 fields to get to school and no eyelids were batted. I don't think there are any more dangers now necessarily but more the fact that we are made aware of them all the time (I am just speculating, I don't know that for a fact).

I guess people on this post are heatedly debating because they are worked up in light of what has happened. I don't think anyone is or should be a ccusing anyone else of doing anything.

My heart goes out to his family.

SueW · 23/08/2005 15:37

Not in UK at the moment so haven't seen anything about the story except brief internet info (and there doesn't seem to be much tbh) but what happened to the older brother? The BBC newsite says mum dropped both boys off but I don't see another mention of him.

BunnyBoo · 23/08/2005 15:42

Oh this is so so very . My heart goes out to the family of this poor young boy. Life is so unfair at times and there are such evil B*T**S out there.

To be honest i don't really think this is a nice place for you all to be arguing, can you not go and do that somewhere else.

Loobie · 23/08/2005 15:43

The older brother was 14 years old so he would have gone to secondary school,Rory the boy whos been murdered went to primary school.

expatinscotland · 23/08/2005 16:02

The poor laddie! That poor family!

The police are starting to release a few more details.

The whole community is so shocked.

Still can't believe he was murdered. Thought for sure they'd find out he had an accident, maybe fell and hit his head or something. But not murdered.

It's just so tragic.

nailpolish · 23/08/2005 16:04

i was certain too it had been an accident, he had run away etc

like you expat, was really shocked
