Welcome one and all!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

This is what it's all about - Babysteps each day to try to get some order back into our home with LOADS of support from our regulars.

So join in! We start this thread on February 1st, but you are welcome to dive in at any point in the month.

Good morning all,

Just getting caught up with thread.

positive - brilliant! It's like that old teaching/ writing cliche in action - Show, don't tell.

chaos, I love the sound of your household - so science-y, with your astronomical cakes and experiments and stuff

MrsD thanks for microfibre cloth tip, might have to wait till I can get to a big city to buy some.

Neenook and MissB, hope your colds clear up soon

dwm - 'not bad effort'?? you did brilliantly, can't believe you get paid work done as well

giraffe - I'm impressed is music group for you or kids? sounds fun

List:
morning routine
S&S
bathroom floor
dusting/ water indoor plants
15 mins declutter
babystep
mission
bathe baby
15 mins email

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 04/02/2010 05:45

Morning all.
Just off to ice cake which didnt get done last night. Appear to be on a go slow as way up til 10pm and my body is still in shock with the early rises this week. Already wished ds a happy birthday, before changing his nappy and putting back into bed. He is happily asleep, which is where i want to be today.

To do:
Ice cake,
fold laundry
label files
put clothes away
pack bag for weekend
make waffles for tea
Play some games with birthday boy
set up new printer
make lunch and moring routine
Review 3 form
print out documents
Sort out timetable proforma thingy for submitting friday

Tis no order to the list as tired but that is life.

droitwichmummy · 04/02/2010 06:55

Good morning! Coffee and tea brewing - lemsip for missb and anyone else who is suffering this morning.

Today's babystep - its stick post-it notes all over the house. Give it a try, it might work for you (but expect your family to think you have completely lost the plot)

Today's mission is about tidying up the shoes and coats in the hall. Did this last time it was up and it's still pretty good in there.

My list for today
empty DW
empty WM
breakfast
dressed
DS to school
to shop on way home (potatoes, chicken and yoghurts)
finish work started yesterday and e-mail it off
complete the form for work I completely forgot about yesterday and put it in bag to post from other job tomorrow
look at job application form and make a start on it
lunch
clean patio windows
wash down front door and shake mats
collect DS and DNeice from school
finish cottage pie
DW
WM
S&S
shine sink
wine
bed

That should do - later!

OP posts:
feetheart · 04/02/2010 07:05

Morning from here too.

Didn't get on yesterday as it seemed to pass in a rush.
Funeral was as good as these things can be - beautiful and very moving service for a lovely lady
Trip to Costco was an eye-opener - first time I've been, didn't buy much but wrote down a lot of prices to go over and compare at a later date - will go back when I have worked out where to store 48xtoilet rolls, 12xtins tomatoes, etc!

For those who asked a 'sweetie tidy' is a bribe way of getting DD (6) to tidy her very messy room. Tried using cooker timer for 5 mins with limited success so now I give her a boiled sweet and she tidies for as long as the sweet lasts. Win/win, especially as she can make it last about 15mins

MrsDinky - thanks for microfibre cloth tip, will add to my growing Lakeland order and see if I have reaached 'free cake tin level' yet

Happy Birthday to mini-Chaos - love the snuggly asleep boy image, I often have to go and look at mine when they are asleep as it makes me go very gooey (especially when they decide to sleep together)

List for today:
Morning routine
School runs
Bank for School Assoc
Work
Pick up DS from pre-school, 20 mins at home then Tumble Tots - busy boy!
15mins declutter in DS's room.
5mins room rescue in DS's room - tis bomb -site and DH and I have to fit double air-mattress in there when my Mum comes to stay next week!
Mission - might try windows one from yesterday
DD at friend's for tea so sausage, chips and beans for us (DD doesn't like chips or beans - strange child!)
Try and find Pamper night people as most of those on our list can't do it - eek!!
Afternoon/evening routines
EARLY night

Have a good day all

havingagiraffe · 04/02/2010 07:40

Today for me:

-morning routine - DONE
-go to work - ALMOST!

-load of washing etc
-evening routine

and that will be all. See you later - have a great day.......

optimisticmumma · 04/02/2010 08:43

StillCounting · 04/02/2010 08:47

Hi there fellow fledlings

= my expression this morning!!

LOl - I feel like hiding too HavingAG

Fell off the Fly wagon spectacularly yesterday. It's gone ballistic at the office - new computer system proving rather taxing and slowing us all down but will be worth it in the end (I hope)- have paid work coming out of my ears - dh VERY stressed - and had a spontaneous play-date (a mini-celebratory tea party - long story involving dance rehearsal arrangements gone wrong) with 5 marauding 6 year olds here for several hours yesterday evening. One of them asked "please may we be just be a little bit naughty??"!! to which I replied "Absolutely!!!!" Good to be warned in advance .. and oh so politely

As a result I didn't get much of my list done but the guinea pigs did receive a full spa treatment: combing, shampoo, "conditioner", blow-dry, pedicure & manicure ...

So tired left sink piled high for first time in what must be 4 months - no clothes out in advance for first time in about 3 months - and boy did we pay for it this morning. Only just got dd to school on time, dh even more stressed, and I have a full day ahead of paid work and major chores here to pull everything back together and although I'm washed and dressed, I can't find my keys, phone, boots or cardigan. Not a good start to the day.

So I thought I'd have a cup of coffee, calm down, and come and see what you were all doing before getting stuck in. You are all being very productive and I am duly inspired once more! No time to scroll and post to everyone individually though - sorry - but hope you all have a good day and will catch up later on.

In the meantime though:

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your ds WhereChaos - hope you have a lovely day together!

and hope you feel better soon MissBennett Mummy thank you for steps and you deserve an award for the that list yesterday.

Today:

Morning routine including s&s, dw on and wm on - half way there
Paid work for 2 hrs or so
Post office
Tidy and sort master bedroom including packing up some of dd's old clothes
Tackle kitchen, dining room table and generaly put sitting room to rights
Really sort laundry room properly
More washing
Try and do today's mission
Office admin
Order sewing pattern for dd's Carnaval costume
Home office declutter START AGAIN
Weekend arrangements by e-mail
Tidy up control journal which is getting out of hand
WALK!!

Have a good day everyone!

optimisticmumma · 04/02/2010 08:48

Sorry feetheart I posted too soon and meant to say 'phew' at your list!! Costco can be great for certain things but you are right to check prices. Stuff like cereal and beans etc I find is more expensive that Tescos, but it is fun to go once in a while!!
I'm also a microfibre cloth fan particularly for cleaning windows so go for it! Have a good day...

Mmmango · 04/02/2010 09:20
MrsDinky · 04/02/2010 09:25

Morning all,

PMPY - only bought the slowcooker last week so have only tried stew so far, some of the others are more expert, also there have been a couple of slowcooker threads recently in Good Housekeeping.

I've got another cold and feel rough, so am sympathising whith anyone else who feels like crawling back to bed today. Some of you sound as though you have very busy days ahead of you today.

I'm going to cart DD off to big town in a munute to do some mindless spending essential clothes purchasing for DS. then this afternoon I will try and dust the rest of this dining room. The shoes and coats are not too bad at the moment.

I am resolutely not going to cover my house with post-it notes, am trying to make it look nicer not worse!

droitwichmummy · 04/02/2010 09:30

Feel like I've done half a day already so quick list-check
empty DW done
empty WM done

to shop on way home (potatoes, chicken and yoghurts) done also got cat & fish food, bread, mince and chicken were on offer in tesco so bought lots and put in freezer
finish work started yesterday and e-mail it off
complete the form for work I completely forgot about yesterday and put it in bag to post from other job tomorrow

clean patio windows
wash down front door and shake mats

Never mind the blanket, I want to be one of SC's guinea pigs!

Busy busy flying morning for me, as it is my only at home child free time for 10 days. Have to pick her up at 1, but also need to shop, go to tip and make soup before then

Cup of tea (10 mins)
40 mins home blessing the top floor and stairs (10:50)
20 minutes for living room (11:10)
40 minutes for kitchen (11:50)
make soup (40 mins)
shop at tip @12:30.

Wish me luck!

feetheart · 04/02/2010 10:47

List may sound impressive but there is absolutely no guarantee that it will be done.
Am currently avoiding starting work and blanket sounds MUCH more inviting

pushmepullyou · 04/02/2010 11:25

Bloody paid work intruded, supposed to be my day off . Still on the bathroom and waiting to be sent more work.

optimisticmumma · 04/02/2010 12:54

Mmmango - hope you have a nice meal out!
PMPY - best laid plans eh? Wondering about your 'shop at tip'

So far:
Dw on done
WM on done
Morning routine done
s and s done
Yoga done
Supper - think about done
Dryingironing x4
Missions for the week so far
Homebase done
Look after Dnephews later
Out to dinner with friends.

Hope you feel better soon Mrs D
Glad mums on the playground are nice DWM. In my experience the playground is a microcosm (sp?)of life! There are always going to be 'groups' just choose the one you feel comfortable with. Stay clear of the alpha females - you know the type - they used to bully everyone else at secondary school!!!

Neenook · 04/02/2010 12:58

Oh I want a blanket too!!
Am lemsipped to the max and still feel grotty
Also, the oven element gave up last night, so am having to resort to hobtop dinners and the slowcooker until new element arrives.
Have so far today done:
1 load of washing
Emptied drier
Emptied and refilled DW
Made beds
DCs to school
Me to work (just 2 hrs today)

Still to do:
Clean guinea pigs
Ironing (the observant ones will note this has been on my list since Day 1
Put casserole in slow cooker

Glad you're feeling better Miss B

droitwichmummy · 04/02/2010 14:09

empty DW done
empty WM done

to shop on way home (potatoes, chicken and yoghurts) done also got cat & fish food, bread, mince and chicken were on offer in tesco so bought lots and put in freezer
finish work started yesterday and e-mail it off done hooray!
complete the form for work I completely forgot about yesterday and put it in bag to post from other job tomorrow

[SC takes 'H2°' break prior to school run]

Lol at blanket yearning

(and lol PushmePullyou - dh says gps get treated better than anyone else in this house!!)

Ahhh, it warms the heart this thread, it really does

Was feeling a bit despondent at prospect of chores still unaccomplished but ...

I love all the talk of dh's & football and satellite dishes and reluctant light-bulb-changing, ladder "traps", teenage love, Saxon battle scenes, martial arts, babes in arms, birthday cake decorating, funerals and forthcoming Christenings, birthday parties, music groups, slow cookers, battles on building sites (are you an architect PushmePullyou if you don't mind me asking?) girl guides, cottage pies et al

Sniff

Um, that's it really

Save to say:

Ha ha Neenook - hope no-one is looking at my lists too closely for the very same reason!! Hope you feel better soon. You too MrsD

That school sounds very nice indeed MummyD

Hope you have lovely evenings out Optimistic and MMango

Have you heard from your ds1 yet Optimistic btw?

Waves to Feetheart

Hope everyone is getting on OK. Must run ....

PositiveAttitude · 04/02/2010 16:08

Afternoon Ladies,

Some Mammoth posts on here today! How do you all get the time to type out all that lot, then go off and do it all?

DWM - My family need no encouraging to think that I have lost the plot, so i am with you on the post-its!

Mmmango - Did you expect me to keep my mouth shut? No way, I don't "Show, don't tell". I show and say as much as I possibly can. Me keeping my mouth shut would be a miracle......ask DH!!!

Chaos Happy birthday to DS. Hope you both have a lovely day and that the cake was ok. ANy left over?

Feetheart - Love the sweetie idea.

OM - Hope DS was ok in the car. DD3's new fellow has a car and I was like a cat on a hot tin roof last night when she was on her way from the cinema - admittedly less than a 2 minute drive and she text me when she got in the car, so not too long on the hot tin roof!!!!

PMPY - I do lots in my slowcooker, not just stews. I cook joints. Today have stuffed chicken breasts smelling lovely for a roast this evening. Also do shepherds pie - put the meat in the morning, cook & mash potatoes, use the slowcooker pan, put mash on, stick undeer grill for 5 mins to brown off, then back on slowcooker base so that can be dished when anyone wants it. Curries.....

Yes it is my DD2 and DD3 who are in LLluuuuuuurrrrrve. NOT with each other . Yes we have done the broken heart routine with DD1 in the past, so under no illusions that this soppy eyed phase will last, but I am enjoying it while it is here.

Right, down to housework.....well, that will be quick.

So far I have sorted the washing, done 2 loads.
Cooking roast with lots of veg.
Parent consultation day for DD2 - year 12. Apparently she is a joy to have in the class. Always cheerful and eager and hard working.....any idea who they were talking about, cos I can't believe its my DD!!????/
DD2 & DD3 have just cooked brownie for dessert tonight! YUM!! - Left kitchen in a mess - apparently they cook, I clean .
Oh and this morning I had to wake DD3 up at 7.30 for a 9am appointment. This was the first time in 17 months that I have had to wake her so early and it takes her ages to get her brain awake enough to be able to get tthe rest of her body to co-operate. She has slept for the rest of the day. WOn't be waking her again that early for a long time for a very long time. (She has CFS/ME)
Appointment was good though.

Right, DD2 needs lift to work now, so must dash.
Out tonight, so wont be able to get on here. Have fun everyone. - just cos I like that face!

optimisticmumma · 04/02/2010 17:03

Thanks for asling SC and PA - yep DS1 home in one piece!
DS1 has had GF for nearly 2 years . I know we are going to be in for a shocker when that one ends!! They're such good friends though I am just hoping it will fizzle out and there won't be a major bust-up!
DS2 in detention as we speak so words will have to be spoken before I go out!

List has gone well although the Himilayas of ironing awaits me...how do you guys who don't iron have crease free clothes. Someone please spill the beans 'cos I can't manage it!

havingagiraffe · 04/02/2010 18:36

Of course I meant Feetheart and I said some weird combination of that and neenook- sorry to both of you.

I also love the slices of life that we get to take the pain of cleaning away on this thread, hence why it is preferable to actually going on the flylady site!! I love that there is such a range of childrens ages as well and have to say particularly enjoy the teenager stories but then DS is far enough away for me to find them amusing I guess.

Can't remember who asked but yes the music is for babies. One was a bit sedate for us, lot s of younger and DS wanted to crawl around - I was constantly nervous of him eye poking a newborn! The other had older kids and he could crawl around and bang/shake things.

Today we have been to friends with the rest of our baby group and she set up loads of sensory/obstacle things - balloons in travel cot, hanging ribbons, feather boas - it was fab with lots of coffee and cake for Mummies.

Come on then OM spill the beans, what did she do? I always wonder how non-ironers don't look creased. Maybe they secretly DO iron.

PA Chocolate and love - your DD's will be delirious at this rate! Well done to DD for the school meeting. You must be pleased that DD3 is socialising - I'm sure you said before that she hasn't been out as much as she would like of the last year or two because of the ME - or did I imagine that?

Feetheart I LOVE the 'sweetie clean' - Brilliant.

MummyD so glad no 'mummy mafia' at school gate. I am amazed at our baby gym group which starts at 9:30 that some mums are in FULL make up when they have babies less than one - I barely manage to brush my hair (although obviously don't tell flylady!)

...oh dear have just been caught posting on MN and not tidying up dinner things by DP..... best dash!

Try to catch up with everyone else and post my achievements later.

PositiveAttitude · 04/02/2010 19:04

Thanks for remembering Giraffe yes DD3 very rarely goes out of the house. Her date yesterday was a first date with new lad and she asked him if they could go to the cinema so that she could fall asleep during the film and he had strict instructions to wake her up before the lights came on at the end! . Not the most romantic of chat up lines, but she came back smiling.

You wait, those teenage years will creep up on you and bite you on the bum before you know it, so don't laugh too much!! By the time you get there we will be well used to teenage drama and it will be water off a ducks back and we can have alaugh at you!

ln1981 · 04/02/2010 19:18

hey everyone, hope all those of you coming down with various lurgies are getting some rest and enjoying your blankets/duvets.

just a quick one tonight, have mostly done everything i set out to do today which included, washing, ironing and todays mission, just got the bathroom to quickly tidy and lunches for tomorrow to do. Hurrah for me!

catch you all tomorrow, hopefully will have more time to catch up properly!
