Happy New Year!

This is the place for you if you have made a New Year's Resolution to get on top of the chaos in your home

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Here you can find out what it is all about. Try to ignore the cutesy stuff - cute the regulars on here are not! We also take some of the suggestions with a HUGE dose of salt (look out for wearing tie up shoes in the house)

If you decide to register for the e-mail updates from flylady be warned: unless you choose the daily digest only option you will be innundated with e-mails throughout the day. I will post the links you need each day so you don't need to register on the site to join in.

Dive in and mark your place - we start on January 1st!

Just a quick flyby.

OM - How on earth did you do your oramibeingthick getting only the ends crossed out????

Had a fairly successful day here. It seems to work me not posting a list as I get it done and don't feel guilty about things not done.

Washing/iron pile is extinguished totally [yeah go me]
hoovering done downstairs [yeah go me again!!!]
Kitchen clear
washing in
spent 2 hours in local newspaper office trying to find an article written between 1986 - 1992. Got as far as end of 1987 and had brain ache, so back tomorrow to do another year!

plan for tonight is to truant from planned meeting.
Feet up.
Cross stitch and watch cycling down under on tv.

Bye for now.

MiniMarmite · 21/01/2010 18:58

That made me LOL after quite a boring day SC - thank you

Actually, that has reminded me that there is a bra bank near one of our local supermarkets...

Supposed to be getting DS's milk and tidying up after dinner...oops!

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 21/01/2010 21:12

Paperwork pile of doom is sorted into piles of like. Now all i need to do is to file them. One pile needs to be done tonight. So only flying through. Hope to be in bed before midnight. have a good day tomo.

TALLULAHBELLE · 21/01/2010 21:13

Evening - you are all doing so much. I have cleared out a fair bit today - got rid of (almost) all of the outgrown baby clothes to Homestart charity when had a meeting with coordinator today.LOL she turned up with a handbag & notebook & left with a car full of baby clothes.

Friend came to visit for lunch & left with a big bag of LP's to take to Oxfam for me.I haven't had a record player for the last 10 years (but I still salvaged my faves - WHY???) So my new strategy is to not let anyone leave my house empty handed.

Had to take DD to the doc so that ate up my afternoon so am behind again.

So on the babysteps - do we just do one a day or are we supposed to do one, keep it going & add the next iyswim. And what's with the fruit & water? Do I gotta be healthy too (hides Macaroon bar).

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 21/01/2010 21:28

Yep the idea is you keep adding in babysteps so you collect them. Love the idea of not letting anyone leave without something! I had a pile of baby stuff for the charity shop but there is a possiblity it might be required (NOT me!) so hanging on to see. Couple of months extra is not going to make much difference. Healthy eating babystep has been eating as it was felt we needed work in this area too. Do or dont do it. your choice - not fat fairy compulsory. Well done for getting so much done.

optimisticmumma · 21/01/2010 22:04

Evening all!

PA - I only put 2 hyphens in between each word! I'm not very good at being literal, i tend to interpret everything! I also skim read which doesn't help!

Today:
Take 2xDC plus 1xDH to stationdone
Take DS1 to station slightly later.done
morning routinedone washingdryingironingwashingdryingironingdone Supper?stirfry
bills (from yesterday)
missions x 21done Yogadone
Walk with friend to town and collapse into nearest coffee shop. Walk back done waterohdear fruit/vegdone
work out what i can fit into to wear for a 'do' we've suddenly been asked to go to on Saturdaynope

Not a bad day. DD being very trying atm. She's obviously tired and irritable but completely takes it out on me!! She has recovered from ME but, still, when she's like this I do wonder if she's as well as she would have us believe and I worry about a relapse... Oh well it's the weekend soon and that should improve her mood...

optimisticmumma · 21/01/2010 22:07

OMG!Now I'm posting twice and have random bold words - eek!!
Have a feeling my laptop is having a trying time too.

pushmepullyou · 21/01/2010 22:14

Evening all

Back again after a couple of days away so just checking in. Washing machine on. DD sleeping. Kitchen floor cleaned. That'll do for me today!

Haven't managed to catch up with the thread (again ), but SC my office office is the same and the only truly 'un-flyed' area of my life (apart from the car, about which the less said the better!) Perhaps we should have a joint effort at some point and see if we can motivate each other

Tallulah I think the water and fruit are an optional thing. Don't let it put you off your macaroon!

Love the bra tips btw. If anyone knows an internet stranger who wants a bra they need to get out more are very welcome to one of min

MrsDinky · 21/01/2010 22:30

Evening all

SC - re Pontefract, thought it must have been some sort of euphemism (why on earth would you be going to Pontefract suddenly in the middle of the week after all, no offence to any Pontefract dwellers, which include quite a lot of my family), just that I hadn't heard it before. Some people around here use the phrase "just going to turn my bike round" for going for a wee, very apt to be talking about this when we're all trying to drink all this extra water....

MrsGok - yes, found the campsite I mentioned on UK camping and have browsed boards on here from time to time too. The DCs are always asking when we can go camping again, and a lot of pretend camping occurs at home with blankets etc. Our tent is an Outwell something, huge dome with three little pods round the outside and an awning.

Today

Dust hall shelves - done and some in front room
Hoover downstairs - done, middles of rooms only
Washing - done
Empty DW - done
Some more decluttering (random) - an hour on the understairs cupboard
Go to school to help with reading - done
Finish stacking logs - carried forward to tomorrow.
5 a- day, yes but some of the portions were minuscule, eg lettuce in a sandwich
Water - well if you count tea and beer maybe, otherwise fail.

Additionally, the metal baffle in the roof of our woodburner fell off yesterday, easy enough to put back, but ended up deciding to dismantle various parts of it for a good clean out and deciding that the firebricks need replacing, so off to the stove shop tomorrow.

A scare tonight, DS (6) fell all the way down the stairs, carrying a box and lost his balance. No real damage, just some bruises, but very upsetting for all concerned.

Tomorrow is a big day, my car is going off to be traded in for a newer model, it has been drinking oil for a while, and decided to quit while we're still ahead on the big bills. Feel a bit sad, it has been a trusty and very reliable friend. So, have to clear that out in the morning and take photos of it for the family album.

Off to do a few more millimetres of crochet... it'll be summer before I've finished this hat.

droitwichmummy · 21/01/2010 22:31

Evening all.

No round up tonight as going to bed. Thought would mention that I'm aiming to start January Fledglings Part 2 sometime on Sunday - that's unless we get to 1000 posts before then....

missbennett · 21/01/2010 23:02

Hello all! Sounds like everybody has had a busy day!

mrsg I, like you, need a library! I have too many books. I try, I really try to keep the numbers down, but they are like friends! How is your new fridge, by the way?

Stillcounting I am wondering just how my old bras would support growing vegetables?! or maybe I could use the cups to plant a few lettuces in - or something!! Did enjoy reading though - thank you!

MrsDinky hope your DS is OK - and you too! Are you having a new car?

Well, I have done the following:
-morning routine to include swishing and swiping
-been to work - wore nice new Monsoon sale dress so felt very glam!
-had at least 4 fruit/veg
-got car to garage
-got through Guides without doing damage to any of the noisylittlemadams lovely girls
-washed up/shined sink
-mission
-one load of washing on airer
-second load in machine

So not a bad day's work I guess! Off to bed in a few minutes - still need to choose suitable outfit - got to tell somebody off so need to look like I mean business!

droitwichmummy looking foreward to part 2. What happens if we get to a 1000 posts. Do we turn into pumpkins or something ?

Pluto · 21/01/2010 23:05

Evenin' all!

I've done it - got through that first week back at work and now I'm enjoying a lovely glass of red and Question Time.

Thanks for all your motivating and kind wishes this week. DH has survived the first day of Ofsted and I've got semi-organised for tomorrow. However, as Thursday is the new Friday I have not laid out any clothes or done any sink shining!

tomorrow
get up and make myself presentable for Mr Ocado who is coming between 6.30am and 7.30am

mop the hall floor - please pester me about this, it's disgusting now.

ironing

hoover living room and stairs

check birthdays coming up and sort out gifts

town for errands

recycling

butcher

Tired now!

feetheart · 21/01/2010 23:10

Wow SC mega post

PA - interesting that NOT putting up a list works for you. This is my 4th time Flying but first time actually listing things. Works at the moment but trying not to be too obsessional about it
Hope you got to put your feet up.

This morning:
Morning routine - done
School runs - done plus long chat with friend on way home
Bank - done
More SAGE! - not done as wouldn't let me on DH out and v busy so couldn't help. Wrote up notes from session on Tues so at least got something useful done
Managed to take BIG pile of stuff to charity shop whilst DH and DC were out so they couldn't claim any of it back

After work:
Tumble Tots - done
Change beautician's appointment - done
Room Rescue - done and living room looks better for it
15 mins in bedroom - no
Mission - meant to but no!
Few school Assoc bits - no
Cook Toad in Hole with DD (6) who is getting v into cooking - both of them wanted to be involved and we managed it without any raised voices or anyone being pushed off a chair

Later:
Collect rent from my old flat - no. Panic phone call from tenant who was still stuck at college slaving over his thesis. Will go up at w/e .
Sorry to disappoint but don't think I fit the Rachman image, I'm too soft and often arrive with biscuits! Pays dividends as tenants have always been great.

Meant to say about yesterday's Baby step that washing is one of the few routines that has stuck from previous Flying attempts. I always do 1 load a day - take it downstairs with me when I go to sort breakfast, put it on after breakfast and hang it out at some point during the day (OK haven't got the last bit quite sorted yet!) Don't have a tumble dryer and refuse to let place become Chinese laundry so can only do as much as I can dry - fine in Summer but still seems to work in Winter/bad weather. Works well and avoids washing mountain of doom most of the time.

Not even going to make bed by 11pm tonight!

feetheart · 21/01/2010 23:20

Sorry, that wasn't meant to be an attempt to match you SC!

Also took ages so x-posted with lots of people.

Pluto - enjoy the start of your w/e though at time of Ocado delivery, and I'm an early bird!

MrsDinky - hope all of you have calmed down from shock.
Lots of camping games here as well - think our DC are similar ages and mine have been camping since they were tiny (think DD was 5mths!)

Really going to bed now.
Night night

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 21/01/2010 23:27

Evening Ladies, just popping in before I zip up to bed to say hi!

Have done all of my list except sweep dining room floor and list stuff on Freecycle. Please someone give me a kick up the backside tomorrow to get it listed.

SC Glad you are keeping on top of things even though you are busy. Gives us beginners hope.
Yep! I am elevating my leg as much as possible, spending quite a bit of time at the table supervising drawing and play doh (now I remember why I don't get it out much.

chaos I to have a paperwork pile of doom and am putting it off at the moment, so I sympathise.

Tallulah a good wheeze giving people baks of stuff to take away.

OM you never really recover from ME. You have to monitor what you do. My DH has it and had to have 6 months off work and then went back a few hours and then gradually increased his hours to 3/4 time. He has only just started back full time this September after nearly 3 years and he still has to be careful but he is quite good at managing it now. Hope she feels a bit better soon.

to PMPY. Did you have a good time?

Mrs D My 3 love to camp too, we had tears and tantrums in the Christmas holidays because they thought they were going camping again. We to have inside tents as well Sheets, chairs and airers are all called into play and their duvets and the play food. They were asking for a picnic today.

We have a Sahara6, big dome, 3 pods, looking at getting the extra awning for this year.

Hope your DS is OK. He will feel it more tomorrow, poor thing.

What car are you getting?

Sweet dreams all, i'll be in bed before midnight woohoo!.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 22/01/2010 00:47

Due to the printer feeder dying and having to put in one piece of paper at a time. But thankfully not dead until point where i could cope without the other bits. Will have to get a new printer tomo though. Not happy that printer was fab.

... sorry tired so rambling - early night scuppered due to failing of printer. and earlier awkward ds. Hope for early night and lie in on saturday. Night.

feetheart · 22/01/2010 07:00

Argh - late-ish night but still waking early so slightly bleary this morning.
Would have gone running but its raining and I'm too much of a fair-weather runner to even contemplate it!

List for today:
Morning Routine
Soup out of freezer
School run (only DD today)
Post letter
Mini-nastics with DS
Mission
Room Rescue
Beautician's appointment
Lunch out with friends
Pick up DD
Dancing class - DD (without the meltdown I had last week about her not getting ready )
Possibly make scones for soup but more likely to be toast!
EARLY NIGHT!!!

Here's hoping for a constructive day for everyone

droitwichmummy · 22/01/2010 07:06

Good morning everyone. In office today so whizzing by

Babystep is about control journals

Mission is a tidy up.

Last day in bedroom - on to the living room next week

See you all later

StillCounting · 22/01/2010 07:40

Good morning Mummy, thank you for steps and have a good day, good morning all!!

Hope everyone OK...and thanks for your lovely replies

Feetheart Post away!! If I had more time I'd be more succinct (if that makes sense!)!! Quantity not necessarily quality I'm afraid as always posting at 100+ words a minute, hence appalling grammar and sentence construction etc ! Well done for getting through most of your long list yesterday and for conquering the laundry. You sound like a lovely landlady btw.

Respect PLuto - you are definitely not taking it easy on your day off are you??? Don't forget to mop the floor (after the Ocado delivery man has left) ... so that will be at around 7.30 am then

MissBennett - congrats on your list too. This and every thread has a 1,000 post limit (at which point the Fat Fairy appears, waves her feather duster, and our clothes disappear only to be replaced with tan tights and denim tabards).

Optimistic - hope your dd manages to catch up on some r & r this w/e

MrsDinky hope your ds is OK and that you have all recovered from the shock

PushmePullyou we want menus, details, everything!!! Did you eat any dishes involving smoke or smears??? You're on btw - about the office challenge - when wd suit you? I can't next week (honestly not procrastinating - have too much work - how about following week?)

Hi Tallulhabelle Apologies!! Should have explained more fully. As WhereChaos said, "body-clutter" baby-steps are only for those who are trying to lose weight on here and are by no means compulsory ... and yes the idea is to do the new baby-step each day and "maintain" the previous ones ... but adapt the system to suit yourself

WhereChaos - my paperwork piles of doom have reached epic proportions

Heavens, didn't realise such a thing as a bra bank existed Mini-M that's a new one on me!!

Yo to MrsGok and PA and the trillions of you I have missed

Before work:
morning routine, inc s&s, dw on, wm on done
prepare 1 piece of work done

After work:
make soup for weekend & fish cakes for supper
finish sock drawer
master bedroom 2 x 15 mins
clear coatstand in hall
afternoon/evening routine
15 mins in home office
wrap present
go over & tweak control journal this w/e
sort top of chest of drawers in master bedroom

Right, just going to turn my bike around ...

StillCounting · 22/01/2010 07:42

HOpe you do manage to get early nights tonight Feetheart and Wherechaos

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 22/01/2010 07:47

Morning fellow fat fairy followers,

Managed to get to sleep by 12.30 last night, considering it was 1.30 at the beginning of the week I am quite happy. Though was not happy about being woken up at 2.30 by the drunks coming home and leaning on the horn and shouting to each other Then the DCwere up at 5.55 this morning arrrgh!! So I am on the diet coke today.

Going to be a quiet day today FLYing wise as DC2 has a swimming lesson this morning, then we have to run into town and get DC1 swimming trunks and run up to the school in time for his lesson.

So today is
Morning routine done
Mission
Babysteps done
Clean new fridge/freezer and turn it on
Sweep dining room floor
List stuff on Freecycle
Evening routine

Don't have to think about dinner tonight as it is take away night

missbennett · 22/01/2010 08:36

Good Morning!

LOL at thought of denim tabard and tan tights!

-Morning routine done
-Breakfast in bed for DD2 to see if this will encourage her to get up for school - done but still feeling poorly so no school
-wake up DD1 to be told she's having lie in as free periods this morning - done
-feel like bad mother for having to go to work when DD2 poorly and yesterday DH (and the D is very tenuous!) didn't go near her all day and she 'forgot' to get lunch (and he cannot see the problem with this because at 14 ahe's 'not a little kid' ) - done
-mission - to be done later
-get some proportion over DH - not done yet
-apologise for adding an AIBU/relationships issue to flying thread - please consider done! Though any comments as to whether I am definitely BU welcome - as will assist with the previous task!!

Right, off to work. Have a good day everybody!

MrsDinky · 22/01/2010 09:53

Morning all,

Well, DS seems fine this morning, he will probably be stiff and achey later but they do seem to bounce better than us grown ups.

Car - yes, a new one, we were offered £200 trade in for the old one against a 2nd hand car, or £2000 "swappage" (like scrappage, but Toyota are doing it for 7-10yr old cars) for a new one, which made the new one cheaper. It's a Toyota Yaris, we have had 2 biggish cars up till now, but we are no longer lugging around travelcots, pushchairs, you name it, so economy is what we're after. Unfortunately DH will be the main driver, I will be stuck with the other car as I hardly drive anywhere now and it makes sense for him to have the economical one.

Camping - yes, have been nagged relentlessly all winter to go camping, even in the snow.

Today

S&S - done
DW - emptied, breakfast dishes in
Washing - in dryer
School run - done
Get parts for woodburner
Stack logs (subject to rain stopping)
Pick up sledge ordered weeks ago from local hardware shop...
Clear out old car
Find all its paperwork
Pick up DD in old car
Go and get new car

MrsG MissB and any other keen readers (I have seen a couple of you in book swap threads) - have you used the website www.readitswapit.com - I love it, swap your books with strangers for the cost of postage.

Better go, my 15 minutes of Mumsnet time is up

elliepac · 22/01/2010 10:52

Morning everyone,

FRIDAY!!!

well i posted yesterday about the state of my house and did no list but last night managed to give the downstairs a real sort out and do 3 loads of washing! So am starting to get back on track! I even did my morning routine today...there is hope for me yet .

Busy day at work today and then am going out with mum and sis tonight for a meal and a flick which should be lovely. Quiet weekend ahead with not a lot planned, so hopefully should be able to get truly back on top of things!

Main aim of the weekend is to try and figure out what we are going to do for DD's birthday in 3 weeks time.

Have a good day. Back later.
