Happy New Year!

This is the place for you if you have made a New Year's Resolution to get on top of the chaos in your home

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Here you can find out what it is all about. Try to ignore the cutesy stuff - cute the regulars on here are not! We also take some of the suggestions with a HUGE dose of salt (look out for wearing tie up shoes in the house)

If you decide to register for the e-mail updates from flylady be warned: unless you choose the daily digest only option you will be innundated with e-mails throughout the day. I will post the links you need each day so you don't need to register on the site to join in.

Dive in and mark your place - we start on January 1st!

OP posts:
feetheart · 16/01/2010 21:52

Not much flying at all today as woke up with start of a migraine - I have really odd migraines that start with a lot of weird visual stuff. If I can catch it early enough and blast it with Nurofen I just need to sleep it off for an hour or two which is what I did. Had to do the same thing yesterday evening after more than a year with nothing - no idea what is going on!

MrsGok - hope you are not too sore

missbennett - LOL at your bathroom stool contents

droitwichmummy - don't tell anyone but it was done in the slow cooker

Neenook - definitely a correlation in my life, if I feel in control in one area (could be house/exercise/eating/etc) then everything else works better too.

Am steeling myself for tomorrow as DD (6) wants to make buns 'all on my own' and we are going to let her - eek! It will be emphasized that making buns also involves clearing up afterwards. Will be interesting to see her interpretation of 'cleaning'!

Neenook · 16/01/2010 21:55

Evening all!
In addition to earlier list I have managed to:
Tidy the house
Find a space in the cupboard for Wii bits and bobs
Moved horrible desk upstairs ready to sell (but out of my sight!)
Moved desktop computer (that was on the desk) upstairs ready to sell
Cooked healthy tea and saved leftovers for tomorrow
Made recipe plan for the week
Done online banking (so depressing)
Stuck to WW points for the day for the first time since Christmas Eve
Loaded and put on dishwasher

DH helped with furniture removal and completed his list of yard tidying and dog walking

MIL arriving Wednesday so am v. motivated!!

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 16/01/2010 22:17

ItWasntTheBigBang · 16/01/2010 22:53

optimisticmumma · 16/01/2010 23:22

Ok that makes sense, just wondered because I had noticed - sorry didn't mean to make you feel you had to explain really ...
Hope the migraine is on the wane.
Night...

droitwichmummy · 17/01/2010 09:32

Good morning all - thought I was late up this morning, but apparently not!

Very important babystep today. I try to do this but often fail except for last night when I was in bed before DS!

elliepac · 17/01/2010 09:43

morning everyone,

yesterday's list not so successful as ds decided he would have the vomiting bug that dd had mid week, he's fine this morning but nothing done yesterday. have had a lazy morning so far and am abut to spring into action.

sc thanks for the wine, much appreciated and needed after yesterday although quite amusing that you knew i needed it before i did .

sparrow nice to see you back and glad things have settled down.

neenook and missbennett impressive lists yesterday

mrsgok glad you are getting some rest

big waves to everyone else

back later with a list when i have narrowed down the huge amount of things that need doing to something more manageable.

droitwichmummy · 17/01/2010 09:55

Going to have really organised hour as DS has announced that he wants to go for a walk today and we are off to PILs for lunch around 12.15 SO DS is drawing having cleaned his table (with help). DH is asleep in bed so will:
eat breakfast
sort washing
15 mins ironing
washing on
DW on
rubbish bagged and on huge pile by the road in hope bin men will come tomorrow
start stripping beds
get dressed

go for walk at 11 (DS has written it on my white board[)

Hope everyone is feeling a bit better today
Bigbang lots of warm hugs coming your way

optimisticmumma · 17/01/2010 10:08

Morning DWM and *Ellie.

Today we have sunshine! Yippee!

Although it's a Sunday I'm off to meet my jobshare for a coffee ( although we run a class together and are good friends we rarely get to see each other socially!)

DS1 at rugby again
DD doing History essay
DS2 asleep

Have a nice day all I need to get up!!

ItWasntTheBigBang · 17/01/2010 10:12

thankyou for the coffee. I have decided today we need something fun. so am taking ds to jodrell Bank. He loves that place, and it is a fairly cheap trip out, plus with the drive it makes a good half day outing.

Other then that i have ironing and tidying to do. but due to opening hours doing the fun bit first. off to get up.

ItWasntTheBigBang · 17/01/2010 10:29

On just thought, i only became a bit about my name when i made the round up. was actually thinking i might make it a premeanat swap from DEM. So might come back to it when am ready.

elliepac · 17/01/2010 10:35

i'm back to list post and to imbibe some of OM's coffee .

we have sunshine here too so when dh gets up (grrrrrr) am thinking we may take a trip to the park. bigbang have a lovely day at jodrell bank, fun bit first definitely sounds like the best plan.

om look at you socialising on a sunday..am impressed .

so list looks like this:-

dw on done
washing unloaded done
more washing in
tidy/s/s in kitchen done
put chicken in to roast done (couldn't decided whether to have for lunch or tea and seeing am thinking of going out this afternoon thought i would cook now then it's up to us!)
tidy dining room
sweep floors
s/s bathroom
get me and dc's dressed (sorry fat fairy am cleaning in pj's again )
ds to do his homework
me to do my homework
ring potential new childminder as mine is going on maternity leave soon (that's a lot of stress i can tell you...how very dare she want to have children of her own)
collapse on sofa in heap
evening routine (i must must must get back into this)
collapse on sofa (poossibly with wine)

enjoy the sunshine everyone, it is 5 degrees here currently...positively tropical

droitwichmummy · 17/01/2010 10:41

Going well here! Sun shining, 5 degrees

eat breakfast done
sort washing done
15 mins ironing next
washing on next
DW on done
rubbish bagged and on huge pile by the road in hope bin men will come tomorrow done
start stripping beds done need to wait for DH to get up before I can finish
get dressed

DS has just announced that he no longer wants to go for a walk - oh well, it made me make a start

optimisticmumma · 17/01/2010 16:16

Bigbang - hope you are having a fun day, Pluto too (good luck for tomorrow)
Ellie - soounds like you'vedone loads, DWM too. Shame about the walk - oh well.

Bit of an odd day here as I came back from my coffee (which went on into brunch ) to find some Boat Show tickets for today that a neighbour evidently coldn't use, so DH has gone there for the afternoon .Lord ony knows why and he'd better not come back with a boat!!!

I ,very bravely I thought, stepped into the breach and took DS1 out for some driving. We dropped DD off at a party and half way through stopped at my Mum's for a strong cup of coffee (me!)
He did really well ut I feel shattered! I wouldn't let him overtake a cyclist (for obvious reasons I thought) so it took a bit longer to get home1

Anyhow:
sheets changed done
school workthoughtabout
casserole inoven
DD to party done
DD home from party waiting for text
Ironing done what's necessary

See you all later...

missbennett · 17/01/2010 16:46

Hello!

OM you are very brave! Got that to come soon and dreading it!

Finished with a flourish last night! HAd bath in lovely tidy/clean/organised bathroom then sorted out underwear drawers. I have 3 small drawers at the top of dressing table which did contain an assortment of undies in various states of decrepitude in each one. But now well, one drawer for bras and slips, one drawer for knickers (folded and in piles as follows: white, black, flesh, coloured) and one drawer for tights and socks! Very smug pleased about this but DD1 says I need to 'get a life'!

So far today I have:

-been to church
-hoovered downstairs
-done 2 loads of washing and kept the drier fed

So remaining tasks are:

-check organised for Guides on Thursday
-'to do' list for work tomorrow

DH is cooking tea and making a meal of it in more ways than one. Decided to make his own stuffing because I bought the 'wrong' one! No doubt there will be plenty of dishes to wash up later!!!

Pluto · 17/01/2010 17:15

If I keep doing that then perhaps all will be well tomorrow.

done
lessons planned, timetable coloured in, bag packed for school
2 loads in the machine
d/w on
downstairs tidy enough - but plenty of time for DS2 to trash it before bedtime!
packed lunches made for tomorrow

to do
lay out clothes
mop hall floor
sweep kitchen
put breakfast things out after dinner

Thanks for your well wishes OM I really like the idea of a job share but wouldn't work with my role I don't think. Anyway, we'll keep doing the lottery.

May not be on for a couple of days as I really need to do some serious school work but I am determined to keep flying and sticking to the routines so I'll let you know how I'm getting on in a day or so.

MrsDinky · 17/01/2010 17:37

Hi all, sorry not to have been on much lately, have been skimming the thread and will post properly later.

A question for all the slow cooker owners, as I think I might go and get one tomorrow:

What make have you got, what do you think of it, what size would suit a family of 4 and what are the pros and cons of the various features?

sorry that's actually 4 questions.

See you later.

StillCounting · 17/01/2010 18:44

Good evening everyone. Positively tropical here at 7°C.

Seem to be running fast to stay in the same place, but at least I am not going backwards!!

Did some of the things on my lists (and virtuously cleaned down the front door and swept and washed down the pavement in front of our house which was in a disgusting state post snow) plus cooked roast chicken for lunch and tidied up. Plus polished two pairs of dh's business shoes + dd's jodphur boots (which now need doing again). So not too terrible a w/e in terms of Flying but didn't get to my sewing or French study or home office (again). Must start making inroads next week.

Saturday:
deliver letter [done]
French study NOPE
finish one sewing project and start another ABOUT TO START
more paperwork done
make lentil and bacon soup done
listen to dd reading done
dd finger nails done
laundry done
15 x 2 master bedroom NOPE
order birthday present on-line done
order dd clothing on-line done
church done
EARLY NIGHT - 11.30 so not too terrible...

Sunday:
riding (if not too icy) done
15 mins X 2 home office - cackles hysterically
laundry done
ironing NOPE
more French study BIG FAT NO
sewing starting now
EARLY NIGHT well, sort of, after 'House' double bill
afternoon routine (which is my evening routine if that makes sense) done

Hope you have all had a good weekend, especially Pluto. You seemed to be extremely organised so you are giving yourself the best possible start. Will be thinking of you this week.

MrsDinky I don't have any personal experience of it but I keep eyeing up 'the Remoska' in the Lakeland catalogue.

MissBennett I am very of your underwear drawers - hope to emulate this week here as we are in the bedroom zone I think.

WCTR/DEM/BigBANG I didn't even realise you were one and the same person [twonk emoticon] !!! Apologies!

Hope your migraine is better and yours too Feetheart

Waves to MummyD, Optimistic, Elliepac, Neenook and everyone else ...

Back to post about body clutter ...

MiniMarmite · 17/01/2010 18:56

Evening All

Had a lovely brunch today with friends (thanks SC) Pluto best of luck for tomorrow. You sound like you are very organised, I hope you managed to have an enjoyable weekend.

MissB well done on the weightloss, that's fantastic. Silent Witness was fab this week by the way .

How lovely that DD wants to make buns feetheart, hope the cleaning up is met with the same enthusiasm!

OM well done for braving driving!

MrsD I have a Cuisinart slow cooker: this one

SC meant to say, glad you got to an art gallery the other day - great to have a bit of time for yourself.

It is quite large but good for making a meal for the family and then freezing one or more further meals. It has low and high settings and timer so it switches on to 'hold' when the meal is ready. I wish it was programmable to turn on at a certain time and switch between low and high (but TBH I don't know if any of them do this). I've only had mine a little while so I have not used it a great deal yet but everything we've had has been great. My DS is only 17 months and it is great because we sometimes get back from childminder/work and he cannot wait any longer for me too cook something so having something ready is a huge benefit. Also good at weekends if we all want to go out as a family but have something ready when we get back.

Sparrow hope you have been ok this weekend.

Mmmango hope your little one is on the mend.

Hello to Ellie, IWTBB, MrsG, Neenook, DTG and everyone that I've inevitably missed.

BODY CLUTTER BABY STEP FOR WEEK BEGINNING MONDAY 18TH January

I hope everyone will forgive me (especially WhereChaos) but following a fairly busy w/e I have taken an executive decision to post what I consider to be a fairly essential step tonight - for this week - which will give me seven days grace to investigate the Fat Fairy's diet book and MummyD's Fat Fairy diet link in more detail. And then we can decide properly on random generator method or not. Hope this is OK with everyone. [Making a meal of this emoticon ]

So ...

... the BODY CLUTTER BABY STEP for the week beginning Monday 18th January ...our second step is .....

Eat five portions of fruit and veg a day (Optimistic)

(Not too much sugary fruit mind - load up on the green and orange veg!)

And remember to maintain step number one which is :

Drink between 1 and 2 litres of water a day (Optimistic) and make sure you have a big glass of it everytime you sit down at the computer (Mmango).

If you are finding drinking that amount of water difficult then try this rrecipe!

or

try Feetheart's tip -
When drinking water put a couple of cubes of crystalised ginger and a squeeze of lemon or lime juice in a mug and add hot water. Tastes good hot and just as nice cold which is often how I have it as I have forgotten it!

Good luck with the weight loss everyone! We can do it!

Step number three will be posted next Sunday evening.

havingagiraffe · 17/01/2010 20:19

HEEEEELLLLLPPP!!!!

Can I come back? I popped in the other week but was a little scared that you guys had reached 500 messages in a week.

Time seems to go at double speed in the HAG household, especially as Mini Giraffe is now crawling!

I have let things slip and need to get back to it. I feel all unorganised and chaotic!

First things first - an early night - ready for the off tomorrow.

ItWasntTheBigBang · 17/01/2010 20:22

SC wise decision that excutive descision. Total chaos here. had lovely day but have no school shirts or socks so have to shove ds into bed and get laundry done and ironed shortly.

Jodrell Bank Enjoyed
Toyrus done
Build new lego with ds some - its a huge set and limited edition hence naughty mummy letting him have 3 wks before birthday - tis discontinued.
Empty car done

Might put a cheerful film on and do some ironing. or might crawl into bed and get up at work time (have day off tomo) and get an early start.

Waves to everyone and appologises for the crap memory, lack of time to catch up and chat properally. Next week will try harder.

ItWasntTheBigBang · 17/01/2010 20:26

lovely to see you back, jump on board havingagiraffe! We are moving fast through the thread but lots of support and chat along the way. And some are being very productive. I, however, need a good kick up the bum and hope to be on track tomo.
