November Slatterns/Listmakers - one year on and still taking baby steps.........

1000 replies

alwayslookingforanswers · 31/10/2009 23:39

Yes - Slatterns (now Slatterns and Listmakers) is now a year old.

Come and join us if you're a slattern, or simply like making lists for jobs you want to get done each day/week/month.

Never thought 12 months ago that a thread I started to help me get the bare minimum done at home when I was feeling shite would still be going strong 12 months later - even with me frequently AWOL in recent months.

Everyone is welcome, we're a friendly bunch.

Norks! Hello.
Will you tell me what your Master Plan is please? Plum has refused to tell me.

claireyBANG · 04/11/2009 10:44

Well done HMHB, v impressive

Hope everyone is recovering from their injuries.

WME I got those pants for ds but be careful if the binding gets wet-ds got a really sore red bumpy rash from his.

DD keeps wetting the bed and i'm not keeping p with the washng, also I sold a load of nappies once she stopped wearing them so have bought her some pull ups. I'm really annoyed that she keeps wetting the bed AND that I've had to buy disposables.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 04/11/2009 11:27

Clairey - sometimes you have to do something against your principles for an easier life. DD currently in disposables , weather not up to drying nappies .

wastingaway · 04/11/2009 11:53

I had DS in disposables for two months before last week. I could have lugged a bucket of nappies round to PILs every couple days for six weeks, I could have got him straight back into cloth when we moved and got the new washing machine plumbed in, but in the grander scheme of things, it was better that I used the disps.

I'm a relativist. Sometimes, we need to lie, steal, cheat, use disposables, microwave a ready meal, watch CBeebies (too much ) etc. I aim to do the best I can, which will be different for other people. I know SIL has done many things different to me (nappies, FF, juice, weaning etc.), but she is fab at playing and activities and taking DN places and he is very well-behaved, all the things I struggle with.

Bit philosophical for a Wednesday morning.

The plastic pants weren't too bad Clairey, din't like trying to pull them off with poop on though, I'm used to unpoppering an Airflow.

CWWM - having it tidy for the evening is a very good idea!
I have tons of terries, just not been able to keep up with the wraps for some reason, though thank you very much for the offer.

  • make beds done

Ali - thanks for missing me

HMHB - chill about the nappies and the rest too. Your DD is still sooo small, loads of clothies don't even think about starting their DC in cloth until they are a month or two old.

Newborn days are survival days. Do what you need to do to get through them and nothing more. Just surviving is enough. Repeat after me: This too will pass.

wastingaway - Master Plans OK. Well, there are two (but the second one isn't quite finished yet). The first is a schedule / planing sheet for periodic jobs (six weekly to bi-annually). The second one is a sort of pick and mix / planning sheet for jobs that need to be done monthly or more frequently.

Buda - I tend to fail abysmally TBH. It's much busier than when I was last here so I'll probably get worse

PlumBumMum · 04/11/2009 12:30

Morning all

Wasting sorry I kept meaning to tell you, but now Norks is here she can tell you herself

Norks glad your back, hope your ok, you have my e-mail if you need a moan chat

Buda [eek] I scraped our car off a bloody big metal euro bin once, 2 days before christmas,
I cried all day then rang dh and he said not to be so silly its only a car,
true but its mine and at the time we couldn't afford the extra 100 on our excess so had to leave it until the FEB to get fixed,
think I was abit post natal at the time too dd2 was only 6 weeks old

HMHB take it easy don't be hard on yourself you've just had a baby!!!!!!

JKS another hug for you, I could cry everytime I think about your ds its such a change in a short time

Right I have practice cake in oven, fingers crossed
going to make lunch
and try and get bootees made for cake
I have made flyers for a night in the school
and its dd2s birthday tomorrow

Waves to everyone else

PlumBumMum · 04/11/2009 12:33

And if you read back you would see I was very worried about you [bigger motherhen emoticon]

Sticks tongue out at Ali and runs fast

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/11/2009 12:41

Buda - it's because we all spend so much time on this thread I think. Once you get to know people it seems easier to retain the little details, I find anyway

HMHB - don't sweat about the nappies. More important that you sleep, or cuddle DD and DS, or find 20 mins to get out for some fresh air or sit on the sofa snuggled up with your husband.

Wasting - exactly.

Alice - dear God, I would need a lie down after that I think!

DH has taken DS out with him to get new ink for the printer so that we can finally sort some photos out. So I have 15 mins or so to do things that I can't when DS is underfoot.

TODAY
All up and dressed - all but me
Orange juice and Spatone
Breakfast x 3 - done
Unload dishwasher and tidy kitchen - done
2 loads of washing
Wipe over loo and basin in bathroom
Cut DH's hair
Clean mirrors and glass doors - done

Sweep kitchen and hall - done
Lunch x 3
Mop kitchen floor - done
Clean inside patio doors - done
Clean windows in bathroom, our bedroom and DS' room - done
De-cobweb ceilings and behind blind/curtain tops
Dinner x 3 - chilli, didn't have it last night as it hadn't defrosted
Clear up
DS bath and bed
WATCH SPOOKS - YAY!!
Tidy round before bed

NorktasticNinja · 04/11/2009 12:42

Aww Plum that's really sweet! Sorry to have worried you!

It has been a truly awful couple of weeks. Unbelievable stress TBH. Another 4 days and I'll be able to talk about it without getting paranoid that people think I'm fishing.

Buda - gah. Sorry. Missed the bit about the car. Will the insurance cover it?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/11/2009 12:44

Ignores Plum's tongue and makes room on her nest

CWWM - meant to say. I do not tidy during the day downstairs - at all - unless I need to put the hoover round. I leave it all and then once DS is in bed I can do it really quickly and then it's all tidy to relax in the evening. I only have DS and if I tidied downstairs more then that would be all I would do all day. God knows how you manage with 6!

NorktasticNinja · 04/11/2009 13:03

I think my lists for today are a little ambitious. DS is doing a good job of keeping me from working. Oh well.

CWWM - I think we met on a thread a while ago when we were both pregnant. Your youngest is about the same age as mine isn't she? DS was born at the beginning of June.

If I had 6 children I'd probably not tidy downstairs whilst they were awake. It'd make me feel like the red queen in Alice through the looking glass (you know, running and running to stay still). That said, maybe I'd do it once (as a form of damage limitation), but certainly not more. So, stop it

StephHaydock · 04/11/2009 13:07

Hello all. Can I join? I have two months off (whole of Dec & Jan) between finishing a contract at work and starting a Masters degree, and I have so much I want to get done around the house. Unfortunately, I am:

a slattern
a procrastinator
a lazy arse
a maker of useless lists (ie. make loads of lists and end up transferring 9/10 items on last week's list to this week's list... and on and on the cycle goes......grrrr)

My house is disorganised - cupboards stuffed with unsorted clutter, loads of DIY jobs and loads of things we need to get to help organise ourselves. Every single room needs major work. I will have Mon-Wed from beginning of December to attack this, and some time at weekends.

Where do I start????

JustKeepSparkling · 04/11/2009 13:08

Hi all. Well sat down in docs office and cried. so that went well.
anyway prescribed some very mild low dose ADs which my head is struggling with but will try and get them and start today.
plus some metformin to try and sort out my hormones as i'm sure they're haywire too - had PC)S before DS1 and think it's back. what fun.

May try and take a flask of tea and some baking to the park. if i get the shopping finished in time.

claireyBANG · 04/11/2009 13:11

TBH it's not so much the principles as that I resent having spent far too much money on cloth and then still having to fork out for disposables [tightwad]

Still, it's only one nappy a day and hopefully short term until she sorts out whatever block she has that's causing her to wet the bed.

Am trying not to think about the house too much, if I was a landlord I'd probably say the same re benefits but I like to think I'd realise not everyone on benefits is a lazy scrounger and take their personal circumstances into consideration.

Oops cross posted with lots of people there!

JKS well done on talking to doctor and hope the ab's help.

Welcome Steph. If I were you I'd declutter first, easier to do the rest without lots of stuff around

CWWM I don't massively tidy during the day either, just pick up a few bits here and there when it begins to overwhelm me

JustKeepSparkling · 04/11/2009 14:05

Hi Steph

I am quite OCD so i would go through each room and write a mammoth list of what needs doing then start to tackle each room in turn - but then get distracted by something else like a book i unearthed for eg! - but at least if it's written down i fee i have to do it eventually.

you could publish the mammoth list on here at the beginning then just do each room in turn?
plus a daily list of little jobs?

right, some cakes baking, and making flask of tea to take
