November Slatterns/Listmakers - one year on and still taking baby steps.........

1000 replies

alwayslookingforanswers · 31/10/2009 23:39

Yes - Slatterns (now Slatterns and Listmakers) is now a year old.

Come and join us if you're a slattern, or simply like making lists for jobs you want to get done each day/week/month.

Never thought 12 months ago that a thread I started to help me get the bare minimum done at home when I was feeling shite would still be going strong 12 months later - even with me frequently AWOL in recent months.

Everyone is welcome, we're a friendly bunch.

Be back with a list in a min but can I just get some opinions on this first?

Basically most of the furniture we have has been bought by me or given to us by my family. When I move out I am going to take most of it but leave H an armchair, (uncomfortable) sofa bed, big tv & stand, KS bed (knackered), sideboard and triple wardrobe. I don't want or need any of it except the wardrobe which I love but don't have room for anyway. Last week I spoke to H about maintenance and he said he wouldn't be able to afford much at first because he'd still be paying the rent on this house til the end of the tenancy in August and he'd have to spend lots on replacing all the furniture etc that I was taking. I was feeling a bit guilty about taking all the good stuff so said ok how about we keep an appliance each and I have the washing machine (you know how much I love my washing machine!) and leave the fridge.

When I looked at fridge freezers I was a bit shocked to see that to get the same one or one a similar size I'd be looking at £300+ (don't remember paying that much for it)so asked him if I could take that one and buy him a small cheap one instead.

But then my mum (who is acting as my guarantor so unfortunately is entitled to her opinion!)and one of my friends had a go at me saying no I was going to be living on benefits and supporting the kids so I should take everything I could and he should buy himself a new one.

What do you think? I felt like I was being fair before and was happy to buy one but them saying that has made me a bit resentful that I have to buy him a new one! Have looked in paper and on ebay etc but no 2nd hand ones in the area apart from one that is more than the small new one.

JustKeepSparkling · 25/11/2009 11:13

I don't know Clairey, but how about seeing it in a practical way.
There will be 3 of you & 1 of him right? so you need the bigger fridge.
Can you physically move and fit the big fridge/freezer?
If you can then i would say you should take it.
If you want to be nice then buy him a small one - handy for him to take wherever he is going next too.

JustKeepSparkling · 25/11/2009 11:15

Meanwhile i have put my bike in the car - will try and go to the bike shop later with ds1.

Morning!

Clairey, I'd take the lot. And insist on maintenance. You're the one on benefits looking after the kids. He should do without a fridge before the kids suffer.
