November Slatterns/Listmakers - one year on and still taking baby steps.........

1000 replies

alwayslookingforanswers · 31/10/2009 23:39

Yes - Slatterns (now Slatterns and Listmakers) is now a year old.

Come and join us if you're a slattern, or simply like making lists for jobs you want to get done each day/week/month.

Never thought 12 months ago that a thread I started to help me get the bare minimum done at home when I was feeling shite would still be going strong 12 months later - even with me frequently AWOL in recent months.

Everyone is welcome, we're a friendly bunch.

Glad I phoned now as have at least been able to resend letter and (hopefully) get the ball rolling again.

Morning! (just!)

I got all excited last night because it looked like my Macbook was working again (been out of commision since end of August) but it's not working again this morning, so still sharing laptop with DH who is off work. [hmmm]
And as the car sold on ebay, it means I'm going to have to go to Meadowhell on the train, four weeks before Christmas, to get it seen to.

And the window man is coming in the morning to replace our back door and window, so I have to get the back room cleared today, as well as finish dealing with the aftermath of a lass bowl smashing on the kitchen floor on Saturday night. Got the worst up, but need to give the floor a good wash and empty the hoover out carefully.

DH has taken DS out, so I might get something done!

I have had quite a fruitful morning (still bloody knackered though!)

Looking at the meal planner, i am thinking about baking proper puddings, and wondering if it would work out cheaper to have some nights of jacket potatoes(with beans/tuna/cheese) and do a crumble or something, one to work out perhaps.

To do today:
Everyone up done

Everyone breakfast done

DD bed
Me bath and wash hair

Wasting - I sympathise re your trip to Meadowhell via train. I used to work there as a teenager (in the Oasis foodcourt, cleaning up tables). T'was simply awful.

Are we having Christmas jobs on our lists yet? Have been holding off til now.

PlumBumMum · 23/11/2009 18:57

HMHB I've started putting some christmas jobs on, I really need to sit down and think about whos getting what
and then think about dcs, worried this year as dd1 & ds want small main presents(ipod for dd and DS for ds)but big money items and worried it won't look as much,
although they do understand when you ask Santa for those types of things that takes one elf a long time to make, when another elf could make hundreds of toys in the same time so (do you like my analogy)
last year dd1 got a DS but it was sitting on a Hannah Montana directors chair with all surprises fanned round it so it looked loads, and dh says they have enough but when he goes out with me he gets carried away, so its trying to find a happy medium
although dd2 is getting a new kitchen so I suppose that will help

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 23/11/2009 19:30

It is difficult knowing what to do about present quantities. I know DS will get loads of presents off family so we probably won't get him much, maybe one or two small things. DH wants to get him a train set. Obv DD is too little for anything but she will probably get loads of tat stuff/clothes.

Here goes......will add more later

Xmas To Do
Write cards list
Buy cards
Write cards and post
Buy xmas cake
Work out who is coming for xmas and meal plan

Present list
Buy presents

Make wreath
Decorate house

PlumBumMum · 23/11/2009 19:56

DD2's first chrismas she got a couple of teething toys just so the other 2 could see she got something,
and even on her second xmas(she was 1) she got a princess push/ride along a doll, a singing spiderman and a babysize princess slepping beauty dressup dress, again for the benefit of the other 2, but this year she is SO excited, they are actually watching santa clause2 now

JustKeepSparkling · 23/11/2009 19:57

Hi all, thanks, DS2 screamed and was miserable until approx 5mins before the doc appt then laughed and was all sweetness & light walking there [double hmm].

Evening. Busy email/ebay day for DH, so not been able to get on.
Bought two 18-36 months Grobags for just over £20 inc. p+p.
The guy who won the auction for the car is being an eejit.
DS didn't have a nap all day again even though DH took him out in the pushchair. 18 months is a bit early to start dropping the afternoon nap though, surely?

HMHB - I'm really not looking forward to it. Only need to pop to the Apple shop, but I'll want to look at everything and DH hates shopping.

JKS - glad he stopped screaming.

We've got some Christmas shopping done. The bulk of DS and one of nephew's. I've gone for stuff he needs, as in paint, paintpots and brushes, plus his favourite characters, so ITNG set and Yojojo from Waybuloo. He doesn't have many small figures atm, so it's not going overboard. Last year he got a few bits, but again there was stuff he was developmentally ready for ie. stacking cups, that I'd have bought him anyway if it hadn't been Christmas.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 23/11/2009 21:50

Evening everyone

JKS - glad DS is ok now, poor little man.

Clairey - the tagine recipe is very imprecise but I will list what I do . This quantity does DH and I plus DS, and then there are usually 2-5 portions for DS left over depending on how hungry/greedy we have all been!

400-450g diced lamb - 1 inch square dice roughly
1 large onion
Glass of red wine (optional)
1.8ltr boiling water
2 beef stock cubes
3/4 chopped carrots
Rosemary
Thyme
Mint
200g spinach
Couscous - I think about 250g dry weight
Salt and pepper to season

Fry off the lamb and onion until brown, season, and then pour over the wine and allow it to boil so the alcohol evaporates.
Pour over the boiling water, then add the stock cubes, carrots, rosemary and thyme. Bring to the boil and allow to simmer very gently for 15 mins or so.
At this point you will notice some 'scum' on the surface, especially if you have used the wine. I skim the bulk of this off.
Leave it uncovered and let it simmer for another 1-2 hours. This is the genius of the recipe - you can leave it for ages at this point. I often make it to here early in the day and then just reheat.
Once you have simmered for the 1-2 hours, add the spinach, mint and couscous, stir it all round. You can just bulk it out with more couscous if you like, or adjust with more couscous or water depending on if it is too wet or dry. It tastes best quite wet I think, no actual clear liquid but it should be a bit sloppy.
It's ready once the couscous has absorbed all the water.
