November Slatterns/Listmakers - one year on and still taking baby steps.........

1000 replies

alwayslookingforanswers · 31/10/2009 23:39

Yes - Slatterns (now Slatterns and Listmakers) is now a year old.

Come and join us if you're a slattern, or simply like making lists for jobs you want to get done each day/week/month.

Never thought 12 months ago that a thread I started to help me get the bare minimum done at home when I was feeling shite would still be going strong 12 months later - even with me frequently AWOL in recent months.

Everyone is welcome, we're a friendly bunch.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/11/2009 21:11

Blimey you've all done so well!

I have had a lovely day, DS did twirling round at the appropriate moment in Jolly Babies today, the teacher was very impressed . Getting the babies to dance on their own rather than us carrying them is a new thing!
I have done no housework though - again! Only just back from picking DH up, DS was all ready for bed though and fell asleep in the car so he's down at least. Not going to try and do anything tonight but must crack on tomorrow

Wasting - are you going somewhere exciting tomorrow?

wastingaway · 17/11/2009 21:25

Haha! I wish. No, I'm just trying to get organised by getting stuff ready the night before. I always end up packing the change bag, just as I want to leave the house etc. so if it's all done before bed, it'll be ready in the morning. Packed lunch is for DH.

Jolly Babies sounds like fun! Is it a dancing class?

Tomorrow -

  • All up, dressed and teeth-brushed etc.
  • Make bed, tidy upstairs, wipe round bathroom
  • put wool wrap to dry
  • Breakfast, clear up
  • laundry
  • hoover downstairs
  • check emails, internet banking etc.
  • research condensation and mildew
  • Range for window squeegee for condensation
  • phonecalls and paperwork
  • lunch
  • colouring etc.
  • snacktime
  • late afternoon activity
  • dinner
  • tidy downstairs
  • DS bath and bed
  • is kitchen cleared?
  • everything ready for the morning - bags packed, clothes laid out, packed lunch made, check weather
  • cut up fleece for nappy liners
Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/11/2009 22:23

It's a music class really, we sing songs with actions, the babies play 'instruments', shakers, little drums, bells etc, and do dancing.
The lady who runs them tries to group the babies together so that a whole class are roughly the same age, and gradually there is more and more involvement for the children and less and less from the adults.
DS loves it

wastingaway · 17/11/2009 22:26

That sounds like sooo much fun!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/11/2009 23:22

Morning all! Feeling reasonably organised this morning.

Yay for the sleep Ali, that's fab!
DS woke up twice, but I think he's getting my cold. We didn't get up til nearly nine though, so a long if broken sleep.

JKS - so the hospital visit is expected to 'wake him up'?

All these classes sound fun. We went to baby massage when he was little, and I've been meaning to go to toddler group for ages.
New mission.

HMHB - for you & DD. is it more than normal babysick? don't worry about CBeebies, it repeats on loop ;)

Yes hopefully the surgery will end up calming down his EEG so he'll be less tired and wake up more. And be more able to cope with life, mostly he finds it all too much at the mo.

Hello, sorry for the prolongued absence, have hardly had a chance to log on.

But I might have a house! Am just waiting for my references to come back and the landlord to approve me and if all ok I can move at the end of the month

It's just around the corner (a road closer to school). One massive bedroom with lots of cupboards and one little one (that will be mine), downstairs is sitting room and good sized kitchen diner. VERY attractive forest green carpet and orange pine cupboard doors

Had landlords inspection of this house this morning so all is clean and tidy, just as well as have poorly screamng ds.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/11/2009 13:47

Clairey that is good news - shall keep fingers crossed for you!

I am being very lazy today, I just can't seem to wake up! Does anyone else get this when they finally get a decent night's sleep after several nights of nowhere near enough? I could honestly just curl up on the sofa and drop off!

wastingaway · 18/11/2009 14:01

Ali, I hear you on that one. My cold is making me sleepy too. [mardy]

Clairey, sounding very positive! Landlord inspection are certainly an incentive to clean. Not that I've ever had to rush to get a house clean, oh no.

HMHB, you poor thing! Cbeebies are your friend.

JKS, poor little mite. Are you getting the cold?

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 18/11/2009 16:02

Hi. SparklyAlice - thanks for posh biccies, well needed!

Clairey - good news!

Wow, what a day (Finding Nemo now on so can post).
We've played farms, jigsaws and drawing. Then cbeebies and lunch. I found a toddler gym class and took him so I could have a few mins off (£2.50 well spent). He really liked it.

DD not quite as sicky now. I think its that she is taking in lots of air and doesn't get it all up and then it makes her sick.

A friend popped in for tea and DS threw a dummy at her DS. She looked horrified and DS did say sorry but its hard to discipline/watch him whilst bfeeding DD??? Her DS is v sensitive. I didn't think it was that bad.

Anyway have now made chocolate fairy cakes with DS and having a break with Nemo.

Hats off to those who have to look after a toddler and young baby everyday - big respect. School back on tomorrow morning until 1pm -phew.

I must be running on pure sugar or something.

todo
tea - pasta

crash and burn

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/11/2009 16:21

Dear God HMHB - that is a superhuman effort on no sleep!

I have managed to galvanise myself a bit, mainly been playing with DS though. When he's old enough for lego it will be a nightmare, I shall never get anything done - I love lego!

Must go and get the dinner started.

Clairy fingers crossed for you!

HMHB Some parents are a bit precious about things like that aren't they? Your poor DS probably didn't mean it. A little boy at toddler group pushed my DD over a few weeks ago. DD was fine, couldn't care less, but the boy's mum told him off for pushing, and that because he had done it, he couldn't have the treat that she had promised if he behaved at toddler group. Apparently that night he woke up crying and when his mum went in to him, he said "I didn't mean to push D, i really didn't" bless him, the next week he came up to her, gave her a hug and said sorry, and she was like "who are you?" with the face.

You've done loads HMHB!

Not done much today, cooking toad in the hole for the first time, so that's an achievement anyway.
DS dived over the arm of the sofa, but no harm done. Made a big clunk when he landed. I'm sooo happy to have carpet in this new house!

The job DH was scheduled to be doing next week has been postponed, which is a bummer , but he'll be home to help I suppose.

This condensation is driving me nuts, never known anything like it!

Clairey - all sounding positive re house yey (decor sounds lurvely )

DS2 having a rubbish day, not settling well, lots of crying and seizures, crappy. And Dh said yesterday he might be home early, then rang at 2ish to say he feels ill so won't be travelling. Then texted later to say he might come home - i told him to stay away! might as well get some sleep and come home tomorrow feeling better hopefully, meanwhile i can eat easy dinner, watch crap tv and go to bed early.

Alice -

Wasting - bummer about DH's job, at least you will get some family time though, and maybe a lie-in or two?

Thanks ladies - you made me feel better as usual. DH is now home thankfully. I have not got a clue whether DD has had her feeds / sleeps at appropriate times but she seems ok.

How people do this everyday I have no idea . This has been a good for me cos I didn't believe I could cope with 1 toddler and 1 baby but I did manage. I may need a long hot bath and several G&T's, however.

Ali - we shall get you lego for chrimbo.

Sparkly - I always assume 3 yr olds will be naughty and that they don't mean it and I certainly try not to make the parents feel bad about it as they probably feel embarrased enough. DS is doing really well today considering his new DD and the routine change.

Wasting - condensation bad here too. Got lots of washing about the place which doesn't help.

Jks - bless you, sounds like you're having a rough day too. Hope your DS is OK. I second the crap tv. DH and i accidentally watched Im A Celeb GMOOH last night , was worth it for the farting convo.

To do
DD/DS to bed
Bath for me
Crap tv
Alcohol and crisps/choc
