November Slatterns/Listmakers - one year on and still taking baby steps.........

1000 replies

alwayslookingforanswers · 31/10/2009 23:39

Yes - Slatterns (now Slatterns and Listmakers) is now a year old.

Come and join us if you're a slattern, or simply like making lists for jobs you want to get done each day/week/month.

Never thought 12 months ago that a thread I started to help me get the bare minimum done at home when I was feeling shite would still be going strong 12 months later - even with me frequently AWOL in recent months.

Everyone is welcome, we're a friendly bunch.

Morning all, will read back in a while, had a lovely day yesterday despite DD3 having me up at 5.15, though she was in bed at 6.30 the night before, could cope with that if it was a regular occurence, but unfortunately she had a snooze yesterday and ended up not coming to bed til near 11.

TO DO
Absolutely loads

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 09/11/2009 09:08

Morning CC. Hope you get all your jobs done.
DD and I just having some breakfast.

Poor DH struggling with DS this morning whilst I was feeding DD. DH slept in the spare room as has work this morning. I was up ever 3 hours with DD and as she fed at 6.30 we went back to sleep and I woke up when DS popped in at about 8am. DH got DS up at 7am for nursery. DS would not put his trousers on. There was a bit of shouting and DS eventually complied. DH hates getting angry with DS and hates being late for work.

I am wondering, even though I have been up lots in the night with DD. Should I set the alarm to help DH and DS or have that extra bit of sleep I so desperately need to survive?
Would be interested to hear your thoughts. What do you do?

JustKeepSparkling · 09/11/2009 09:20

Good morning I had two glasses of wine last night and felt like I had been knocking back doubles all night .

CC @ your list.

HMHB sleep you need it all that will happen if you start trying to do too much is you will get really knackered and end up rowing and been snippy with each other that is what happens here.

Waves to other slatterns.

Tidy round
Sort L's clothes
load of washing in
kitchen floor
do something with dd4.

Will be back with more later .

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 09/11/2009 09:41

Thanks JKS. I would put my conundrum on a different thread but thought I'd ask the lovely slatterns who are always so nice and helpful.

I do realise that I am v lucky to have a lovely DH who helps with the kids and also lucky to have DS in nursery to give me some time with DD. I bet there are lots of mums out there having to deal with a tiny baby and 3 year old all alone.

Right - time to get dressed.

As you can see i am on a go slow this morning

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 09/11/2009 10:34

Morning everyone, have got a monster list this morning that I will post in a sec.

HMHB - definitely sleep. It's good for DH and DS to learn to sort themselves out, if you 'rescue' them all the time then soon they will think they can't do anything without you! Which equals a disaster I think!
Can DH play to the 'DS, Daddy needs you to help him look after Mummy and DD' aspect? Make him feel all grown up and like it's special? They will work something out I'm sure

CC - that is a lot to have done already!

Alice - ditto on the go slow, didn't wake up until gone 9!

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 09/11/2009 10:43

Thanks Ali and CWWM. Sleep is soooo essential!
Morning drifting away from me. At least I'm up and dressed though!

Afternoon!

DS slept through til 5, but then woke again at 6.30 just as DH was getting up for work. I brought him in with me and he fell back to sleep, and we didn't get up til 8.30.

HMHB, I am of the opinion that sleep is very important indeed, but DH having time with DS that isn't just about fun is very important too.

That's very mumof2rugrats.

Bloody hell CC - you are flying through your jobs!

JKS - at your scarf and glove overload. I found a ton when I did our wardrobes the other week - at least now I know not to buy anymore this winter!
Totally forgot to reply to your AD question yesterday. I found to begin with that I could just cope that little bit better with what had seemed like catastrophes before - DS wetting our bed, losing paperwork, meeting a rude shop assistant. Then I found that I was more interested in things again like reading and catching up with friends and that I could concentrate for long enough to watch a film or even do a whole task without getting distracted. I got more smiley gradually, but DH noticed a difference within about a week of me starting to take them. I do feel less sad, I think because I don't dwell on everything so much IYKWIM?

Sorry for the waffle!

Everyone doing well with jobs today - must be that monday feeling

Ali - thanks. I can't decide if i'm happier due to the pills or if i just reached a low last week and i would have been happier this week anyway
Certainly thinking about it i haven't had much interest in other things/other people/meeting friends for a while. And I've been trying to arrange some dates to see friends over the weekend so that's progress

Hoping to send Nanny & DS1 out in a mo, not sure exactly what i'll do first - lie on sofa with junk tv or productive jobs...?

JKS - that sounds so similar to me. As I have gradually got better, I've been able to look back and see just how low I had got.
Maybe do one job and then you can lie down with a cuppa AND feel virtuous?

of your sun, we seem to be actually inside a cloud today, all damp and still and freeeezing!

I have been going non-stop today, and I hardly feel like I have got anywhere when I look at my list - v.depressing.

Not strong any more, got this snotty email today:
Dear Claire,

Further to your recent email enquiry, all our available rental properties are advertised in full on our website.

We do not however have any available properties at present that are able to accept a tenant in receipt of Housing Benefit. You need to be in full time employment, earning 2.5 times the amount of the monthly rent for referencing/credit check purposes.

Thank you.

It's just completely pointless.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 09/11/2009 15:26

oh no clairey! nightmare

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 09/11/2009 15:28

Oh Clairey ((((hugs))))

I am pretty sure that your H has to pay the rent still on your marital home until the DCs leave school, he cannot make you homeless, and if he does then you become a priority for council housing. Have you asked over on the legal board?
I really think you should see a solicitor, check with CAB because I think you should get legal aid in the position you are in.

I so wish I could help you - whereabouts are you?

comewhinewithme · 09/11/2009 16:02

Afternoon my day has not gone to plan due to a friend popping over with her sick yes sick child why would you fetch an ill kid to someone else's house which has small children in?
