November Slatterns/Listmakers - one year on and still taking baby steps.........

1000 replies

alwayslookingforanswers · 31/10/2009 23:39

Yes - Slatterns (now Slatterns and Listmakers) is now a year old.

Come and join us if you're a slattern, or simply like making lists for jobs you want to get done each day/week/month.

Never thought 12 months ago that a thread I started to help me get the bare minimum done at home when I was feeling shite would still be going strong 12 months later - even with me frequently AWOL in recent months.

Everyone is welcome, we're a friendly bunch.

wastingaway · 06/11/2009 15:14

That's a shame. Good luck with the hunt.
Would there be somewhere that has a list of agents/landlords that let to those on benefits? CAB for instance.
I'm sure you've thought of all that, but any suggestions or advice we can give, do ask.

SparklyAlice · 06/11/2009 16:20

Clairy that is shocking behaviour. You do not have to put up with that. You sound like you are coping amazingly, you are very strong.

I think your best course of action is to go to the Citizens Advice Bureau, or possibly your local Surestart Childrens Centre. They will have numbers/websites that could help you.

I think you will be eligible for a council house (i'm not sure on the workings of it, so see CAB)

Women's Aid may also be a good place to go. Even if just for a chat and some advice.

There is always a practical solution, it is just a case of finding it. You will not be homeless. I will try to find you some links for the above organisations.

Chin up, it will all work out for the best

SparklyAlice · 06/11/2009 16:27

CAB

Surestart Childrens Centres

Women's Aid

I know that it is not obvious domestic violence, but they may be able to help you with some of the practicalities.

L is been such a grumpy bum tonight she has only just fell asleep the last sleep she had was about an hour at 10am [grr].

Ali you are the secret hussie of the thread
Clairey going to have a read in a minute, but big hugs for you you sound amazingly strong!

Plum moves Ali over in the motherhen nest to make room for Alice, very good advice

Norks have we lost you all together, hope not, don't feel under pressure to read my crap, but anyway you know where we are!

DONE
Christening cake
loaded dishwasher
rang docs about dd1s medical notes

and thats it
I need to feed dcs, dh is getting us a well earned take away,
I need to get stuck in to house tomorrow as my MIL is getting me cakes to price, so I want the house all organised before I can do anymore
Oh and got a letter from appeals to say they hadn't recieved dd1s notes,
rang docs they said they hadn't been requested
so appeals said I could bring them, doctors said I can't so need to sort that on Monday

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 06/11/2009 18:52

My plans are somewhat thrown out by the fact that the bit of the Tube that DH needs to get home isn't working, so he is still in London - boo. It has been too wet to go and buy anything yummy, maybe we can call in on the way back from getting DH, whenever that transpires to be!

Plum - I think we need to enlarge the nest, CC had claimed a spot too!

PlumBumMum · 06/11/2009 19:22

Oh Clairey I just read all that thread, I can't believe all that was going on, and don't know where to begin, I'm assuming you've left him now as you haven't updated the thread,
don't be worrying about your dcs they will have a far happier life with a mum who dosen't walk on eggshells believe me,
they will learn to do the same and grow up and maybe resent you for it,
I haven't spoke to my dad in three years today, and I resent that my mum hasn't stood up to him ever and still won't, he's never hit anyone one, but hes never wrong and dosen't say sorry.
Stay strong and do whats best for you and your family

SparklyAlice · 06/11/2009 20:27

Thanks Plum, i'm only small and i'll bring chocolate

Tbh, i am (and always have been) one of those people who want to make things better for people. I am now on a voluntary programme run by the Surestart childrens centres called Community Parent Volunteer programme and it includes a one term course on all the subjects (safeguarding, services available, benefits, helpful organisations, behaviour management etc) that we need to be aware of to be a CPV. It helps to know that if someone has a problem you can help point them in the direction they need, rather than wishing you could help but not knowing how IYSWIM?

Clairy i don't know what area you are, so couldn't look up your county council to find helplines etc for you, but that could also be a dood avenue to go down.

Been playing playdoh in between breastfeeding etc. etc. Another tough night last night with DD being sick and DS wetting the bed just when she had gone to sleep . HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 07/11/2009 17:10

always - my MIL gave me a copy of escoffier once and i gave it to a chef he was chuffed. sell it you wont use it unless opening a restaurant.

clairey - read the thread. hope you are doing ok. did you find a place?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 07/11/2009 19:18

HMHB - hope you get a reasonable night tonight - and that you've got some chocolate in the house!!

JKS - slight at your MIL coming and getting everything so organised, hope the hangover better!

Plum - your cakes are amazing! Can you do mail order, or alternatively move to England please?

Always - DH is thinking about getting an Escoffier, is it worth getting or is it just a coffee table book really?

We've been out most of the day shopping, Ikea and John Lewis. So annoyed because I forgot to take the details of the order I placed yesterday so they couldn't let me have the stuff! I didn't have the order number with me, and I didn't even have the card I had used because about an hour after I placed the order last night the bank rang to say that they were having to cancel my card because the security had been compromised somewhere in the system! Argh. So DH will have to pop down there in the morning - I want my new pillows!

Successful in other ways though, and we have seen some things that will make good christmas pressies for a few people - along with a whole ton of stuff that we would love to get for DS if we had unlimited space and budget!!

Also seen some bedding we like, DS cut himself on one of the fastenings that has broken (don't ask) and I can't take it off without cutting the actual cover! Going to have to replace, and the ones we have are discontinued. Going to get it as our xmas pressie to each other I think, too expensive to just buy!

No normal list, but have made good progress on the ongoing one today!

alwayslookingforanswers · 07/11/2009 19:35

Ali - depends on what sort of cook he is.

this is the one I have and it's very much an encyclopaedia of food really (although has recipes in it's sort like use some bechamel sauce with some pot seared roast with x, y, z (presuming that you'd already know how to do the stuff it uses). , you're kind of expected to know what stuff is. Kinda of hard to explain but if you're novice then you'll be looking up several parts of it to cook
