wastingmyeasternameopportunity · 02/04/2009 22:16

Well, I've had a busy day! Got some real cleaning done and finally made the phonecalls I've needed to do for a while. Such a relief!

The story with the post is that I still get loads of mail for the previous occupants, and for the ones before them.
I put a pile of it in the postbox a few months back, with 'not at this address' on it, and the next day the postman told me I shouldn't do that, and to put it in the bin like everyone else does!
Well, I was so taken aback that I stopped putting it in the postbox, but wasn't going to bin it, so I again accumulated a carrier bag full of post.
I decided I'd had enough, so today I rang the post office up and checked what I should do and so I have put the whole lot in the postbox today.
So if I get nailbomb from the postman tomorrow, I know why!

SO you don't have a forwarding address then wastingmy?

I think 'not known' is only any use if the letters have a return address, otherwise theres not much the post office can do except put them in the bin.

I realised I forgot to answer your question earlier, my PhD is in molecular biology (I am was a science geek in a lab coat).

Parsleypants · 02/04/2009 22:41

I am never and I mean never going shopping with ds ever again. Bought boyfriend lovely G-Star jacket I am chuffed with. Ds knocked over his orange juice while we were eating (alright, I was trying to steal one of his chips at the time and he was defending them against me) and IT GOT ON THE JACKET. He'd better like it, am hoping he won't notice the stains but I bet the sales assistant will if I have to take it back!! I nearly cried! He also has a book on S. of France as we want to go in the summer - oh, and the steamer .

Wintersun didn't you have one ill ds and one permanently hungry in manner of Scooby-Doo style ds today? Hardly surprising it was difficult to get stuff done then?

FAQinglovely · 02/04/2009 22:43

I've DONE IT!!!! The biggest most daunting bloody thing on my list is DONE DONE DONE - I've just submitted my latest TMA (tutor marked assignment) for my course - a week late (but I did get an extension from my tutor) but it's finally bloody in

OP posts:
wastingmyeasternameopportunity · 02/04/2009 23:03

Yay! Well done FAQ! Trillian- Molecular biology sounds awesome! I'm in the arts, someone who was on my MA course is doing a fully-funded Phd, specifically in the area she wanted to do and I am soooo !

We rent the house, and the previous occupants did collect post, once, but as much comes for the people who lived here before them. They actually get more post than we do!

I've cast-on the knitting project. I need to get it done in the next couple days, but it's a tiny thing, so shouldn't be too difficult.

PlumBumMum · 02/04/2009 23:10

Thanks everyone, hope my dinner out didn't pile on too many lbs!!

FAQ - well done you!

CC - that's awful, hope you managed to enjoy it anyway.

HMHB - think i got to the 12stone mark though not sure. i know i was 11,5 in July 2008 when we got the Wii and that was 6 months after having ds2 so 12 stone sounds about right.

WME - i've been in charge of dealing with the post at various places and used to send back anything that had return addresses as 'not known at this address' - never got told off by the postman some things i would actually open, get an address, reseal and send back. some things were important enough for me to ring the sender and tell them (debt collection/medical appointments, etc.). Amazing how some people don't sort out post-forwarding.

Giraffes - doesn't sound good

I've studied theatre and MA was Digital Performance. I expect as she's using digital technologies that may have helped secure funding, it's the in thing atm.

I've left the curtains closed so the postman can't see I'm in when he comes.

Going to do list shortly.

Glad you're feeling happy here halfmumhalfbiscuit - minibreak sounds great. You'll probably all revert to being teenagers again and giggle lots and it really will feel like nothing has changed (except perhaps you won't be so bright-eyed and bushy-tailed in the morning! ).

JustKeepSwimmingInChocolate · 03/04/2009 09:06

TA - you do make me laugh
(and explain your name for me? see on profile you like similar books to me. am currently ploughing through the Thomas Covenant series, read 2 out of 6, read them? also got v frustrated when i realised that Brisingr did NOT finish the Eragon trilogy, no he decided to write a fourth, grr!)

Yay, I am the comedy relief! I have a role!

wasting - that's why I'm leaving academia for the 'real world', I don't want to be involved in the politics or worry about what is the 'in thing'

JKS - My exboyfriend read Thomas Covenant, I started but didn't much get on with it. Not long after that I started to not get on so well with the boyfriend, I don't think the two were related. If you want a really big giant set to plough through try the Wheel of Time, I'm geting DP to read them at the moment. They're big epic boy from small village has large destiny and goes on a journey, but with a good cast of characters and a bit of soap opera thrown in.

You are very brave having one of those trailer things - and very strong! I find it hard enough cycling and moving just me and the bike when it's windy.

Trillian is a character from the HItchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, real name Tricia McMillan, but merged to sound more spacey. 'Trillian' on its own was taken as an MN name (but by someone who posted on one thread in 2005 and never since so I didn't think they would mind). In the very last book she turns up as a sort of interstellar radio reporter and has taken on the last name of 'Astra' so I decided to add it. Plus it feels like a real name, which I like.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 03/04/2009 10:07
