Oh and if you fold your washing up neatly and stack it on the warming plate lid (not the very hot one the other one) it will dry pretty much without creases and you won't have much ironing to do! (although do be careful re - scorching)
Oh dear I might have to move house again just so I can have another Aga!

delightedoldbag34 · 06/01/2009 22:50

Ingles yes, that's it - Bakeoglide. Get it at the Aga shop or Lakeland have it too. Fab stuff. Great for putting inside baking trays (eg roast potatoes) to minimise to need for scrubbing off afterward.
Anyway good luck with the Agas you lucky ladies. Night x

am punchdrunk....with exitement!

will i spend an arm and a leg on bakeoglide?

the man in the shop kept going on about it

Ingles2 · 07/01/2009 10:44

about a fiver Ria

Ingles2 · 07/01/2009 13:20

sorry more like a tenner
I use the black sheet direct on the hotplate.

katch · 07/01/2009 13:33

Another selling point: all the annoying bits you can't put in the dishwasher can be dried on top of the Aga. Mine is almost constantly covered in airing washing/ pans/ teapots/ food processor stuff. Am now wishing I hadn't splashed out on a new one, especially since the doors don't quite match in spite of several visits by engineers to match them up.

katch · 07/01/2009 13:35

And you can cook fried eggs on the round Bake-o-glide with no oil.

RiaParkinson · 07/01/2009 21:28

are you really really wishng you had not bought new katch?

katch · 07/01/2009 22:48

No I don't think so really. What's done is done. At the time we got carried away with the whole 'new kitchen' thing, but if we'd known certain things then I'm not sure we would have splashed out.

RiaParkinson · 07/01/2009 22:50

Thanks Katch

i am just wondering if i might love my not so brand new one a wee bit more because it is the right thing to do

or

if 3 years hence i will wish i had bought new

oh there is no right answer!

katch · 07/01/2009 23:03

Just one thing - don't let me hear you're one of those part-timers who has (shudder) a NORMAL cooker as back-up.

RiaParkinson · 07/01/2009 23:08

no no no Katch

My thoughts on the issue are 'if you are going to do it - do it properly'

RiaParkinson · 08/01/2009 21:05

mutter

reconditioned

mutter

new

Ingles2 · 08/01/2009 21:32

LOLOL Ria!
What are you doing?????
Reconditioned!
You know it's right.
It's cheaper, it's environmentally sound and you will never ever know the difference

RiaParkinson · 08/01/2009 21:36

debating ingles debating...

its awful - re conditioned has only been on the radar for a week so for a libran i have come a long way

Ingles2 · 08/01/2009 22:07

Have you been to have a look at any recond's yet?

RiaParkinson · 08/01/2009 22:16

not yet
sellers sort of say - we have 2 2 oven and a four in bits or somesuch so i am doubting i will get to see my pewter beauty easily!

Ingles2 · 08/01/2009 22:19

RiaParkinson · 08/01/2009 22:24

RiaParkinson · 08/01/2009 22:25

Ingles2 · 08/01/2009 22:29

They look good. Go, see, put yourself out of your misery...

now, the pics....
those pancakes on the hotplate... they're on the wrong side!
They would be burned to a crisp in 2 seconds flat ... lucky it's not fired up
and the book...
t'is Amy Wilcox... I can recognise my dh's pics anywhere!

KristinaM · 08/01/2009 22:44

agree re pancakes

notanotter - out aga is 80 years old ( came with the house) and AFAIK it works just as well as the new ones. as someone else said, there's not a lot to go wrong. the only thing is that we have to have ours serviced every 8 ish months, whereas a new one can probably be done once a year

you can tell its an old one from the photo because the badge is not stuck on and the domes are enamel not chrome

RiaParkinson · 08/01/2009 22:50

one person asked me which shape i wanted...

'rounded' or modern

i have no idea

ingles 'dhs pictures'????????

KristinaM · 08/01/2009 23:00

does that refer to domes? I think teh newer chrome domes are much flatter and one old ones more rounded - is that what she meant?

I have an older rounded DH still in perfect working order. but not for sale
