How many times do your los wear their pjs?

Having just read the pending pile thread, I wondered how many times your LOs wear their pjs before they are "dirty"?

DTs are grubby little mites and crawl around so their sleepsuits/pjs get worn just once, but dd who is 4 is much cleaner and less of a floor-roller so she wears her 2, sometimes 3 nights before they are dirty/a bit stinky.

Is this a slatternly way to live? Should they have clean pjs every night? Surely not...

I like that idea Rookie, might suggest it to my DH! He only sits behind a desk all day, not run around after kids like me!

Dropdeadfred · 11/12/2008 10:41

EEEugh..really? two days for a shirt?

how can anyone NOT like clean sheets???

gingerninja · 11/12/2008 12:00

I kind of get why my DH doesn't like clean sheets. You know when you nuzzle your kids head or your DH's neck and it smells of, well, them? That's what he likes.

Personally I'm not a fan of smelly sheets but I despise the artifical fragrance of washing powder and fabric conditioner. When I visit my mums, everything in her house smells of their fabric conditioner and it's awful. It just lingers. I could even smell it on the Christmas wrapping paper she used for DD's presents

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 11/12/2008 12:05

Untill she forgets where she took them off or untill they are really grubby. Which isn't long as she constantly forgets which room she got undresed in and it's easier just putting clean ones on than hunting around the house for last nights pj's.

DD2 is the same untill she gets grubby so hers usually end up being worn 2/3 times in a row.

Horton · 11/12/2008 12:21

I know exactly what you mean, ginger. I also hate the smell of fabric conditioner etc. The only one I don't loathe is Ecover which is a bit less overpowering than most.

Rookietherednosedreindeer · 11/12/2008 12:23

Oh dear . You know my domestically allergic DH that I always complain about. Twas telling him about this thread this morning and he said that he often changes DS pyjamas, about twice a week he reckoned. Now on the basis that he usually exaggerates all domestic undertakings, that will be about once, which coupled with my once a week, means that DS in fact gets his pjs changed twice a week or roughly once every 2-3 days.

And yes dropdead, I have to do a whiffiness test and if they don't pass, they go back in the laundry basket. I'd like to point out that my personal preference would be for them to be washed after each wear, but being as I am not the one in the office with him, I'm not too bothered. Oh and he is a contractor and has been extended many times, which I am guessing wouldn't happen if he genuinely emitted unpleasant body odour.

bozza · 11/12/2008 12:23

A bit of weetabix on pjs (generallly weekends only) don't mean they can't be reworn in the bozza house. I think they generally change them about 2x/week. Bedding once a fortnight on a rotational basis - DH and I one week, the DC the following week. Towels once a week.

Geepers having a DD with wavy hair and bad bedhead I totally get your issue with your DD and washing her hair in the morning. What I fail to get is why you also bath her at night. My solution to this, now that DD is 4 and her hair is finally getting longer, is to bath and wash DD's hair on Sunday morning which means no baths required (IMO) on Saturday or Sunday night. Then I do the nitcomb thing, then leave it to dry and clip it back at the front - looks lovely. Other days, she gets it sprayed and tied back. Today it is in bunches.

wasabipeanut · 11/12/2008 12:25

Ds keeps his until he spills something on them or they smell horrid - usually 2-3 nights if we get a good run.

Dttoydto · 11/12/2008 12:30

another slattern here. Pjs washed once a week if we remember when the week's up - could quite easily be a fortnight if we forget. Sheets - every few weeks. Clothes - when there's something on them which needs washing out - could be worn once or 10 times.

But we only do 1 - 2 wash loads a week so I'm using the eco-friendly get out card!

gingerninja · 11/12/2008 12:33

Ha, this will make you all puke. I fished out my DD's shorts from the laundry bin this morning, they didn't whiff so I put them back on her. That is the third day she's worn them this week! Not even sure why I put them in the laundry bin in the first place. The shame of this thread probably!

We were getting 2 nights out of PJs - then the worms arrived and now it's clean pants, pyjamas and sheets every day !!

And no heating to dry anything

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 11/12/2008 13:29

DS1 (8)- every day - but he's still wet at night so can't really expect him to put wet PJ's back on

DS2 (5) when I remember - or once a fortnight (give him clean ones to take to exH's for the weekedn

DS3 (18 months) usually 4/5 days, depending on whether he sicks/leaks on them.

sandyballs · 11/12/2008 13:30

Geepers, do you have OCD? I'm stunned at how often you clean your kids/sheets/clothes.

Interesting that you say you were brought up this way. I was thinking that we tend to carry on in the manner in which we were brought up regarding cleaning etc but my 7 year olds are starting to rebel already and asked for a complete clean set of school uniform this morning .

cheeseandsproutssarnie · 11/12/2008 13:32

dd and ds1 3 times ish depending on state of them.
ds2 every night as hes a state

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 11/12/2008 13:32

Schoo uniform a totally different matter - if I'm lucky I'll get DS1 and 2 making their uniform last for 2 days - generally they're mucky though so get clean most days.

BellaKissedSanta · 11/12/2008 14:23

Gingerninja you get today's minging award.

I would do the same as you, but even so!

Urged on by Geepers high standards, I have today changed my bed linen.

MincePirateCat · 11/12/2008 14:28

til the bottoms smell of wee i guess

abraid · 11/12/2008 14:30

Now I know why some people pay so much for electricity and use up so much precious water. And wear out their clothes so quickly.

MincePirateCat · 11/12/2008 14:31

do you remember those ads for glue, when that man gets stuck onto a big board and sticks?.

i think weetabix has the same properties

basementbear · 11/12/2008 14:34

Once a week - they are 5 and 7 now so don't tend to spill anything on them and thankfully no bedwetting! No need to change them more often IMO - they don't get dirty in bed do they? And they don't sweat so I can't see any reason to change them more often.

Rookietherednosedreindeer · 11/12/2008 14:36

Weetabix could generally be subsituted for superglue on most occasions, still the littluns love it its quicker to shovel in than rice krispies

I hate washing with a vengeance, doing 2 loads a day would drive me insane.

Rookietherednosedreindeer · 11/12/2008 14:38

Sheets are once a fortnight for both DS and ourselves. And I don't even have to change them as the cleaner does it . Still its a lot of work getting them out of the cupboard to put on the bed.

Rookie wanders off whistling nonchalantly.

Dropdeadfred · 11/12/2008 14:59

Wow...I am suprised at this thread. I don;t think I'm right and you're wrong...I'm just genuiely suprised at how many of your dcs don't wear clean clothes/pjs every day...i assumed everyone washed alot of clothes every week...and we are a family of 5 so yes the washing machine is on alot but to me tht is a necessity..i never thought of it as a lifestyle choice before
