How many times do your los wear their pjs?

Having just read the pending pile thread, I wondered how many times your LOs wear their pjs before they are "dirty"?

DTs are grubby little mites and crawl around so their sleepsuits/pjs get worn just once, but dd who is 4 is much cleaner and less of a floor-roller so she wears her 2, sometimes 3 nights before they are dirty/a bit stinky.

Is this a slatternly way to live? Should they have clean pjs every night? Surely not...

Mine have a clean pair every day. So do I.

We don't have enough towels to wash every day and the tea towels can be pretty rank so that's OK!

pooka · 10/12/2008 19:06

We don't have enough towels to wash them every day. We of course do wash ourselves every day!

Horton · 10/12/2008 19:09

Blimey. I'm clearly slattern of the year. DD (2.3) often wears her pyjamas for well over a week, as do I. She never eats breakfast in them, though.

BellaKissedSanta · 10/12/2008 19:09

Too late now, Pooka.

Your secret is out.

BellaKissedSanta · 10/12/2008 19:10

Horton.

You are officially minging

yama · 10/12/2008 19:13

I was beginning to feel all smug as dd has clean pj's every night but then I realised that I can't remember when we last changed her bedding.

compo · 10/12/2008 19:14

Geepers - you must spend all your time washing and putting away clothes and making beds. I mean washing your bed linen every day?

NorkyButNice · 10/12/2008 19:18

One of my university friends will only use a bath towel once (and we all thought he was crazy).

Surely when you use a bath towel, you're clean, having just got out of a bath/shower? So why it would need immediate washing I really don't understand!

noonki · 10/12/2008 19:30

geepers - you make your bed every day

surely you have something better to do with your time.

What a waste of electricity/water/time, no wonder the world is buggered.

We wash the kids pjs as needed every few days, more if they make them mucky.

HaventSleptForAYear · 10/12/2008 19:41

Mouth open in shock.

Last time I was this amazed was on a thread where people changed their towels every day.

And now I find it's clothes, pjs, sheets, you name it.

FWIW our DS change pjs about once a week (and bath twice a week).

I change mine about the same (but wash every day because I actually sweat ).

So what I don't understand, is how I have so much washing (every night and extra at weekends).

We wash nappies every other day but still.. the rest of you must have the machine running non stop, non?

loler · 10/12/2008 19:45

I really should block the good housekeeping threads - I alway feel very inadequate. I now realise that my kids stink as I only change their PJs at the most twice a week (although ds1 has a bit of a thing for sneaking new ones on), they are only bathed 2/3 times a week in a bath that is very rarely cleaned. They are got out of the bath in dirty towels and then put to bed manky sheets (I wait for them to look a bit grubby!). DSs have to have new clothes daily (lucky them) as they get caked in snot etc! DD doesn't!

They are also likely to be plague carriers as I have only washed my kitchen floor twice since moving here a year ago. The tea towels are washed weekly (although do have a dishwasher so aren't often used). The pet bowls are put in the dishwasher (another thread of shame!).

Finally I have never ever wiped down my skirting boards!

I think I should have name changed after admitting that lot - I normally look at these threads to try and make myself do some house work and then go away muttering!

One question I have for those that are clean (unlike me) - when do you do all this? I'm either at work (PT) or else have the dc around so either can't as have a toddler hanging off me or don't want to as would prefer to do some fun stuff with them. Might set up another thread to ask this as have gone on enough here........

Horton · 10/12/2008 19:46

Thank you, Bella.

BellaKissedSanta · 10/12/2008 19:48

I took a similar view when my dc were born, loler.

What would they remember when they were older, that their home was spotless or that Mummy made cookies with them?

Geepers · 10/12/2008 19:48

I don't wash all my bed linen every day, just my sheet. I love the feeling and smell of a clean sheet and can't sleep properly unless it is fresh.

Maybe I have issues. My children and I also bath every day, complete with hair washes, and the two year old sometimes twice a day.

BellaKissedSanta · 10/12/2008 19:49

That's okay, Horton.

I am completely minging, btw

Hulababy · 10/12/2008 19:49

DD wears her PJs fr 3 or 4 days, goes through a couple of pairs a week.

I would never dream of only wearing an item of clothing/outfit once only before washing, bar underwear. If it is still clean then it gets reworn.

To wash everything after just one use seems like a dreadful waste of electricity and detergents, never made the fact that the clothes will wear out far more quickly. It is not environmentally friendly to wear just once IMO.

Plus you guys who do must spend hours every week washing, drying, ironing and putting away clothes!

BellaKissedSanta · 10/12/2008 19:50

I was not aiming that at you, Geepers. You have assured us it is all done in a very environmentally friendly way

ScottishMummy · 10/12/2008 19:51

eats brekkie in them so,most time get grubby but if not dirty 2-3days yes

Hulababy · 10/12/2008 19:52

Oh and 6y DD doesn't bath every day either. She has a shower 2-3 times a week and does her hair then. Rest of the time it is a wash at the sink in a morning - flannel to face, hands and bottom. Washing every single day just dries her skin out too much.

ScottishMummy · 10/12/2008 19:54

bath weekly (unless manky from park) as too much bathing exacerbates eczema

IdrisTheDragon · 10/12/2008 19:54

Everyone here wears pyjamas until they are visibly dirty. So at least a few days and can be longer than that. Sheets get changed when they are dirty. Towels get washed every week or so probably. Children have baths about twice a week.

Geepers · 10/12/2008 19:55

I don't spend hours a week on laundry. Probably about 10 minutes a day, if that. I put it in machine, turn it on, tranfer to tumble drier, then fold it. I do hardly any ironing as I fold it all as soon as it's dry and try to get to it while warm.

BellaKissedSanta · 10/12/2008 19:55

If I changed my sheets every day what would the bed bugs eat?

IdrisTheDragon · 10/12/2008 20:00

Geepers, it must take some time to put all the clothes/sheets/towels etc away. I do as little washing as I can (see above) and it still takes me a while to put things away.

puffling · 10/12/2008 20:01

I double bib dd with one that covers her whole body and a plastic one to catch the bits, so she never gets food on her clothes. Therefore pjs can be worn for several nights, less in the summer.
