Really boring question but what is the best kitchen bin you’ve had?

I need a new kitchen bin, looking for recommendations.
The bin I am replacing is a Morphy Richards sensor bin.

Ideally not another sensor bin.

I realise how dull this question may be… apologies in advance!

I like my stainless steel Branantia pedal bin. Pedal mechanism is good quality (and it has lasted well). It’s big enough & easy to clean & polish.

Brabantia push the lid. I go to a lot of holiday cottages and have used a lot of bins and none are as good as my brabantia.

I’ve owned two now, I love that if your hands are full you can just hover your hand over it and it opens without touching it 😀

Current bin which is a swan sensor bin.
I have OCD and every time I touched my old bin lid I would be washing my hands yet again.
Now I never have to touch my bin at all unless emptying it.

I would never have another sensor bin after 2 going wrong. I now have a simple human pedal bin. Perfect.

i always thought a large bin would be the answer to all our problems but it was hell on earth dragging it out when people had continued to put more in so just a warning that the taller bins can cause a problem but tiny ones are ridiculous!!

That's what pedal bins are for.

I have one of these for recycling and one for general waste. Ridiculously pricey, but I can’t fault them. Emptying the bins is a pleasure with none of the awkward/grossness I’ve had with all bins. And they’re big enough that my recycling doesn’t need emptying too often, as it tends to fill up much quicker than the general waste.

I have one on wheels that is about waist height. It has a pedal bin at the bottom half that I use for rubbish and a lid on the top half which also has a divider in it that I put recycling in

Is it such thing as a good bin? Just genuinely interested. Just got a normal medium sized bin from dunelm really… it’s sage colour and fits with the walls painted sage!

We have a Brabantia, no issues at all with it.

We have a Joseph Joseph totem bin - it’s great for saving floor space because you have the normal bin, recycling and food waste all in one footprint. Had it for about 5 years now and it’s holding up well. The top part has a push bar to open and the bottom part is a pull out drawer.

I’ve got a Brabantia Touch bin and a Joseph Joseph Totem (and a couple of extra boxes to try to manage the recycling requirements of our council without having to go out to the garage every 5 minutes).

I like the concept of the Totem bin but the lid lever is not as positive as the Brabantia which has a lovely satisfying click open to it. I’ve had the Brabantia around 20 years now with no problems.

We have a Brabantia pedal bin - G Size bags - predecessor was Brabantia pedal bin, taller with F Size bags which was neater and I preferred it. Additionally, this one is a matt grey colour that's a sort of browny grey and the other one was shiny and silver. Just came home from a holiday let where the bin was a tiny oblong thang with titchy, flimsy bags. The recycling was in little categorised inserts in a drawer for dry stuff and no caddy system. At home a caddy fur food waste and I have a single trug to collect cardboard, bottles etc. on a daily basis

Rather sad when we moved into our new forever home we spent weeks trailing round John Lewis et al looking for the perfect bin.

It’s a Joseph and Joseph double bin it’s on wheels so you can move it and rotate it. Top bin is for black waste and has a compost bin built in that clips on that can be exempted. Bottom bin is for recycling. We are two years in and despite numerous dogs, teenagers manhandling it etc it is as good as the day we got it.

you can empty each section separately and wheel the bottom bin out. The orange sections we put bags inside and then just empty them. The bag stay completely still. But you can lift them out (the orange inner sections). Honestly it’s been fabulous. I can’t and won’t go back to any other bin!

Bog standard plastic 50l bin, lives in a cupboard, easy to wash, gets emptied when half full and manageable.

Simple Human stainless steel pedal bin. It feels nice and solid. I like the little storage space for the spare bin bags, the rim covers the edge of the bin bag completely. Nice and quick to change. We have the compost caddy as well which attaches to the side so saves space elsewhere.

We had sensor bins and I didn’t like them. They’re no easier than a pedal bin. Changing the batteries is annoying. The noise when it opens annoyed me. The mechanism always ended up going slow or wrong somehow. And we had the Tower sensor bin someone recommended further
up and the hinge always got gross.

Not ours but a neighbour has a beautiful early 19th century mechanical bin, it works by windup key (it's actually a cranking arm as the bin is very large at 2 metres in height) and weighs over 1 ton. There is a balance mechanism that when full activates a marching band with orchestra music

We also have the Joseph and Joseph totem one. DH just about had kittens when he saw how much it was but we have used it for at least five years now and it’s been really good.

No idea but we’ve had ours for years. Possibly Brabantia? You push gently down on the lid and it pops up. Tall with a flat back. We have another for recycling so they sit back to back. As tall as a black bin liner but skinnier.

This are the Brabantias we have - we got the half moon ones as the used to fit under our kitchen island in our old place. We've had them for 20 years now, I think we've had to replace the lids once on each when the catches went, but that was easy enough and they have been a brilliant buy.
