Where do you dry laundry if you don’t have a utility or spare room ?

I’ve folded our heated airer away that usually lives behind my desk in dining room as it drives me mad and the weather means I’ve not used it. But don’t have a home for it. We’ve no extension or big spaces. Standard 1930s semi here and only have a tiny box room as third room (had a thread on that an awhile back and some posters thought it was illegal for my son to sleep there). So in a world where not all poster have huge open plan palaces and spare rooms or utilities (this is my life ambition - a utility room with space to try laundry ), where on earth are we keeping our airers/ maidens while they dry ?

I do have a utility room but it is also our downstairs loo, so I don’t put the heated airer in there or we wouldn’t have room to get to the loo. Mine goes in the end of the dining room (which is open to the living room). I don’t care what it looks like as it’s doing a job. When it’s not in use it lives in the cupboard under the stairs. I dry outside whenever it’s even vaguely possible.

I’m probably being thick but do you mean where do people keep the airier when not in use, or where are people putting their airier when laundry is drying on it?

Clothes airer in the lounge or outside if it's nice... just a pain to move it

All my washing goes outside on the line, if it comes in and it's not dry I put the heated airer on in the kitchen overnight.

We have a basement, but in our old house we had a drying rack hanging from the ceiling.

There's a reason why tumble dryers are so popular.

In use it's in the dining room, not in use in the cupboard under the stairs.

When I cant use the spare room, I put the airer up in my room.

Growing up, the airer went wherever was least inconvenient, usually the dining end of our thru lounge.

In your case OP I would get a dehumidifier and put the washing in the illegal child's room (I remember that thread!!) during the day when they're at school and it will dry in a day with the door closed.

Tiny flat here and I bought a couple of small fold up airers from Ikea and put one in the bath and the other on the bathroom floor. Then I put my dehumidifier in there and close the door. Washing is usually dry in a few hours. When not in use, the airers are hung up behind the door.

Large things like bedding and throws are draped over the landing banisters at the weekend when I know we won’t get an impromptu management inspection. Towels go in the tumble dryer.

Laundry is a nuisance in a small space!

Our big airer is up in the open plan living area in our flat and then we have a small one over the bath and radiator airers too. I never bother putting it away as it’s basically permanently in use, it went away when we had viewings and was squeezed into a big cupboard but that’s the only time.

I have a utility. Id never dry clothes in there.

Outside on the line for preference. Otherwise in a dead corner of the landing.

Void under the stairs with a dehumidifier. When we lived in a two up, two down terraced house the airer went behind the sofa in front of the radiator. Meant we were sat more in the middle of the room but it was quite wide so it worked

I have a utility room but it’s outside and nothing would dry in it. I mainly use the outside line but in winter I just put it in the living room near the fire and chuck it back in the utility room when not in use.

On the line outside if I can - or on a ceiling airer / the bannisters or on hangers in our bathroom.

We have a spare room now and it goes in there.
Previouly in our bedroom as only dh and I ever go in there and thankfully it was a good size.

I guess you do have a garden and are currently drying on the line as you say not using the heated airer at the moment?

I have a tumble dryer now but am thinking back to when I was in my shared flat as a young adult, with no TD. Airer just had to go in bedroom but it was only 1 person’s worth of clothes.

Even with a tumble dryer some things can’t be tumbled of course, it’s a perennial problem in small modern homes. I think in the 1930s when your house was built people (a) had fewer clothes and (b) washed them less often and waited for “good drying days”.
