Where do you dry laundry if you don’t have a utility or spare room ?

I’ve folded our heated airer away that usually lives behind my desk in dining room as it drives me mad and the weather means I’ve not used it. But don’t have a home for it. We’ve no extension or big spaces. Standard 1930s semi here and only have a tiny box room as third room (had a thread on that an awhile back and some posters thought it was illegal for my son to sleep there). So in a world where not all poster have huge open plan palaces and spare rooms or utilities (this is my life ambition - a utility room with space to try laundry ), where on earth are we keeping our airers/ maidens while they dry ?

Summer - on the line and/or in our crappy old conservatory that’s like an oven!

Winter - tumble driers and radiators

We don’t have a tumble drier, so we line dry wherever possible. Otherwise, an airer or two in the dining room. I’m in a Victorian terrace.

We do have a utility with a tumble dryer in, but the clothes airer is in the kitchen. We line dry in nice weather, tumble things like bedding and towels when it’s cold/wet, and then other stuff on the airer. It gets moved to the spare room if there’s cooking that could taint the clothes, although DP sometimes forgets to do this and I realise mid morning that my top has a faint waft of chilli or similar.

I think the OP's point about not having a utility room or a spare room is important, it does reduce your choices! We have neither, nor a garage or a conservatory! In these situations it is more tricky to manage effectively.
As I said, I couldn't do without a tumble dryer, I don't like wet washing around the place. We have a new one which is very cost effective, and cheaper than having dehumidifiers and heaters running for hours.

Lean to has an area where washing machine lives and I’ve got a French drying rack (not sure of name but it hangs on ropes and is wooden). Sometimes I use a clothes horse in the garden.

I live in a flat, so no access to out door space. I have no room for a tumble dryer either.
Washing goes on airer in hall or my bedroom if I have visitors.

The dining room has a deep alcove where we can fit a dehumidifier and the airer goes there. I've fitted a tension rail higher up which can be used for addition drying.

On a pulley in the kitchen, using a dehumidifier in bad weather, outside on the line in good weather. Much prefer outside whenever possible, love the scent of outdoor dried laundry!

Rest of time in kitchen dinner - and air dryer had big machine under the stairs till last one broke and had less washing - and air buddy drier moved round the house from living room to landing and currently kitchen. Have de-humidifers there as well.

Also have collapsable driers on kitchen dinner walls - and will soon get to point when they can go down some parts of the week.

Last house garage. Always wanted a kitchen pully old style system in kitchen but both houses we owned false ceiling so don't know were joists are.

Line, Dryer, or for smalls or man-made fibres, hot radiator in winter. Wash properly and dry quickly as possible is my motto.

The one thing that would improve my small Victorian terrace house is a utility room. I nearly put one in in a small loft space but in the end decided bigger bedroom space was more important. Not sure if it was the right decision.

Drying racks live under the stairs when not in use. Outside or in spare room when drying clothes. Sometimes in the kitchen if spare room is being used.

On a pulley airer in the garage. The chest freezer below it releases warm dry air.
DSis has a pulley airer above the stairwell, fill it up on the ground floor and winch it up to the top floor. Also a great way to stop it getting underfoot.

I don't have any room to put out airers in my house, so I have a tumble drier next to my washing machine. I do have a garden, but don't have a line and hate putting washing out and picking it in.

My friend had to sell both of her machines and buy a combined washer/dryer when she moved house. She says its ok, but of course can't wash a second load while drying the first.

No, also I didn't find it as efficient as a regular tumble dryer, but it's better than nothing.

Those of you who have mentioned a hanging drying rack: can anyone link the one they have? We are moving soon and this sounds like it might be good for us

I’ve got one of those telescopic poles between two walls on the landing. We have to duck under the hanging laundry to get to the bathroom but it saves having it in the lounge! Dry outside when possible and tumble dry in the winter (tumble drier in the old airing cupboard since we had the tank removed)

In the ensuite shower cubicle - it doesn't get used for showering (main shower is nicer), so the rack lives in there, with a dehumidifer running outside the cubicle.

Airier is in an upstairs landing or I dry outside in the summer. We have a washer/dryer and I only use the dryer for towels or sheets.

Mostly on the line in the yard in the warmer months. When it's wet or throughout the colder months, on radiators all over the house and on an airer in our bedroom (which we have been sharing with our youngest for coming up to 2yrs as well). It's a squeeze space wise and hard to get stuff dry but there's literally nowhere else that it could go. We do have a washer/dryer though and we do tumble dry a fair bit as well but loads of stuff we can't.

I wfh upstairs so I when it’s wet/cold I get most of the dampness out using a heated airer in the front room, with a dehumidifier on, with the hope the worst is out by the time everyone comes home. I do have a tumble drier but only use that for towels and bedding.

In our 2 up 2 down we had an airer which we put in the bath for clothes to dry then hung sheets over the bedroom doors. We do similar in our house now, we just added a dehumidifier to the mix.

When we were in our Edinburgh tenement flat we had one of the pulleys in the living area that you put clothes on then pulled it into the air above the sofa. That was really good and you could fit loads on it.

In the corner of the living room up all the time all year.

(Two teens in a two bed flat, lots of washing, sleep in the living room, don't have a dining room, nor utility, just 2 beds, kitchen, living room and bathroom. Lucky to have a separate kitchen.)
