Where do you dry laundry if you don’t have a utility or spare room ?

I’ve folded our heated airer away that usually lives behind my desk in dining room as it drives me mad and the weather means I’ve not used it. But don’t have a home for it. We’ve no extension or big spaces. Standard 1930s semi here and only have a tiny box room as third room (had a thread on that an awhile back and some posters thought it was illegal for my son to sleep there). So in a world where not all poster have huge open plan palaces and spare rooms or utilities (this is my life ambition - a utility room with space to try laundry ), where on earth are we keeping our airers/ maidens while they dry ?

For the PP asking for ceiling airers, mine was from IKEA 10+ years ago and I’ve restrung both the wires and the pulley in that time. DSis has the wooden slats Pulley Maid but if I did it again I’d get an electric motor Foxy Dry model.

We put the washing on the line outside when possible, otherwise on the drying rack ( Kitchen Maid) suspended from the ceiling over the first floor landing. I haven’t used the tumble dryer for years.

The 1930s semi laundry struggle is so real! Ceiling-mounted pulley airers (Sheila Maids) over the stairs are absolute lifesavers for saving floor space, or over-the-door racks in the bathroom to keep them out of the main living areas

Wow! So much interest. So to clarify I’m not using it right now as I’m drying outside. I have a tumble dryer but it shrinks everything but bedding and towels.
airer is up constantly and never empty. I have rugby, cricket, football kit every week plus a husband who seems to change clothes every half hour. I’ve been like a ninja this warm weather but cannot bear to put it back up in my dining room cum office which looks so messy. I might just put it in my bedroom then the washing is at least near its home. Then the illegal room when it’s available! No garage here either

We have a flat which is tiny, so dry large things over the doors, smaller things on an airer. We have a tumble dryer but I think it’s so expensive to run when the flat is so warm anyway, even without heating on.

Ours is in DH’s WFH room. It’s a small box room, and the only room we heat over winter during the day. We put the dehumidifier on in there too, so it’s toasty for DH and the clothes dry quickly.
He just has to make sure that no one sees his pants drying behind him when he’s in online meetings!

Outside whenever possible, pulley airer in the bathroom and occasionally clothes horse in sitting room

If I can’t put it outside, which is always my preference, I put it on a clothes airer in the dining area which adjoins our kitchen. Either by patio doors one end or radiator the other. Anything that won’t fit goes over doors or on other radiators / heated towel rails

But if it’s not raining like the last Cpl of weeks, couldn’t you store it on the garden, by the side gate so it can’t be seen by the house?

Felt this in my soul! Standard 1930s semi here too and the laundry clutter is endless. Ceiling pulleys over the stairs were a total game-changer for us to keep it out of the way!

The line or the tumbler. Stuff that can’t be tumbled goes on a radiator or the maiden in the dining room in winter. When the maiden isn’t in use it lives under the stairs.

Laundry is dried outside unless it's raining or far too windy to stay on the line. Our clothes airer is a huge tower type, we have a small house & it will only fit in the lounge so has to be used there and when not in use folds flat and is stored being the sofa. I don't care if people see it.

in Winter. I have a tumble drier but rarely use it and only for finishing off damp washing that hasn't completely dried outside.

Tiny two bed flat with no outdoor space. Kitchen and bathroom too small for the heated rack so it goes in the second bedroom usually when no dc staying ( one lives and works abroad but comes back every three months for a week or so). otherwise it is squeezed in to our bedroom or the living room.
