Please help! I've ruined my daughters whitefox hoody

So it was my daughters 11th birthday Friday she asked if she could have a whitefox hoody as one of her presents. I bought it in January and took weeks to pay it off on klarna. She wore it twice over weekend and had a few marks on it so instead of washing the whole hoody to try and keep it in good condition for longer I tried to spot stain the marks and I didn't rinse out the stain remover properly and then stupidly put it out on the line to dry in the sun and when I went to get it in to my horror it had big bright yellow stains dotted all over it! 🙈 she's crying, I'm crying because I can't afford a new one. I'm so gutted .
I've washed it 3 times since, tried vinegar and more laundry detergent on it and still no different.

Any help and advice to get these out would be gratefully received. Thanks guys .

At age 11 I was 5ft 5, a size 12 and absolutely gorgeous.
20 years later, I’m 5ft 5, a size 12 and still absolutely gorgeous 🤣

Hope you manage to sort it OP xx

I may try it if all else fails thank you

Don't bother trying to dye it. It's almost certainly polyester cotton, and the polyester conten won't take the dye. Dye won't cover bleached areas successfully anyway.

FrenchandSaunders · 14/04/2025 11:26

Can't even put a thread in 'household' these days without arseholes piling on.

Ronsealit · 14/04/2025 11:28

Hope you sort it! And sorry some posters are being so mean about it, clothes are important to some teenagers, particularly if it’s something given as a treat which she really loved and which made her feel good and confident in it. And as for the sizing, my ds was 5’10 going into year 7 so has been in a men’s small size since leaving primary school but everyone comments on that in a positive way because he’s a boy and not a girl. Children are bigger now nutrition is better and clothes sizes are all over the place anyway, especially non UK brands.

Bleach!!! I got red cabbage over a mint green hoodie, it came out a lighter mint green but without the bright purple stains.

Most other times use laundry detergent and powder applied neat scrubbed into stain with a toothbrush for a few hours. Never lets me down.

I thought you just had to get dye for sythentic fabrics - not the dylon washing machine ones which work for wool, silk, cotton, linen & viscose.

I think patchiness may be an issue - possibly why some posters are suggesting bleaching rest of garment - and it depends on what damage has been done to the fabric by bleaching which can affect dye take up but it could still work.

Hecatoncheires · 14/04/2025 11:50

Fuck me, there are some unpleasant characters around! @Weezee0409 I completely understand that you're upset that you've inadvertently spoiled something that was a real treat for your beloved child, and that she's upset too. I hope you manage to salvage the hoodie for your daughter but please do try not to beat yourself up about it too much. You sound like a lovely mum trying to do a nice thing for your DD.

Chewbecca · 14/04/2025 11:53

Random suggestion but I have heard hand sanitizer gets stains out that nothing else worked on - could be worth a go.

If all else fails could you try dying it, Dylon do some great dyes now,

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 14/04/2025 12:01

This is bad luck, but if the hoody has been chemically bleached by the stain remover don't waste money on Dylon, it doesn't cover bleach marks. It will cover the logos though.

HouseAshamed · 14/04/2025 12:01

@Hastentoadd , I've already posted that it probably won't work.

From the Dylon site:
Read leaflet for detailed instructions.
Suitable for: cotton, linen & viscose. Mixes with synthetics will dye to lighter shades (pure synthetics will not dye).
One pack dyes 600g of fabric to full shade, up to 1.2kg to lighter shades.

Will stains or bleach marks be covered?
The best results will be achieved on stain free, clean fabrics. Stains are not always covered when dyeing and may still be visible.

No harm in trying if all else fails though

dye might not cover dark stains but it probably would cover light stains like the ones in the huddy

Pollyestherpester · 14/04/2025 12:06

I would dye it another darker colour. Machine dye is pretty good.

TimeForATerf · 14/04/2025 12:08

Ace gentle bleach? many a ruined item have a brought back to life with this.

HouseAshamed · 14/04/2025 12:13

@Hastentoadd , not really because the hoodies are polyester-cotton. The polyester won't take the dye.

Blackdow · 14/04/2025 12:15

With the number of patches on that, you may as well have just washed the thing.

All the advice you’re getting is for stained. That isn’t stained anymore; it’s been bleached. You’ll just have to replace it or tell your daughter that you can’t.

Virtualhelp · 14/04/2025 12:18

Oh no! It’s always something new this happens to isn’t it. Hopefully you might be able to get the stain out. I was going to suggest dying it but as people have said it might not take but nothing to lose if she won’t be able to wear as it is. Could you also do some kind of embroidery or a patch to cover the mark?

tipsyMintMember · 14/04/2025 12:18

Dlyon washing machines do not cover synthetic materials - we've found stiching picked out on dyed garments (which actually often looked good ) or some not dye at all if synthetic fabric and lighter when a mix- but there are dyes that will dye synthetics.

Rit Dye - this claims to do nylon fabrics - not used so don't know how well it does that - possible there cheaper options out there.

It just is it good money after bad - would they dye money be better spent towards a new one.

Even if the fabric is natural and possible to dye with Dlyon washing machine dye it's another fiver on a maybe - and some of DS cotton and linen ex school white shirts did when dyed come out blotchy last time we tried dying - not sure why as not had that happen before.

PhatGurlSlim · 14/04/2025 12:19

almostbloody50 · 14/04/2025 08:32

Alternatively dylon dye in a darker grey maybe?

great idea.

TimeTravelledDoctor · 14/04/2025 12:24

I bought a skate bag insert from Vinted, and it had what looked like rust stains. Soaked in Bicarbonate of Soda and white vinegar spray for a couple of days as I forgot about it. Did a regular wash, stains gone!

GeorgianaM · 14/04/2025 12:25

Ace bleach used to be good for this kind of thing.

Hastentoadd · 14/04/2025 12:28

HouseAshamed · 14/04/2025 12:13

@Hastentoadd , not really because the hoodies are polyester-cotton. The polyester won't take the dye.

From The Dylon website:

Which synthetic blends can I dye?
Mixes of natural and synthetic fabrics make up a significant part of 21st century textiles. The most common blends found on clothing and home textile labels include:
Polyester/cotton
Polyester/viscose
Silk/linen
While a great many can be successfully machine dyed, not all blends were created equal. The challenge is how to tell which ones can be dyed and what the results might be. Luckily, this is easy – it comes down to ratios.

FeedTheRoses · 14/04/2025 12:34

Milton fluid in water and soaked can remove all sorts of stains, and all colour 🤣🤣

ERthree · 14/04/2025 12:53

Using Dylon to dye it in the machine is really simple, give it a go if the vanish doesn't work.
