Please help! I've ruined my daughters whitefox hoody

So it was my daughters 11th birthday Friday she asked if she could have a whitefox hoody as one of her presents. I bought it in January and took weeks to pay it off on klarna. She wore it twice over weekend and had a few marks on it so instead of washing the whole hoody to try and keep it in good condition for longer I tried to spot stain the marks and I didn't rinse out the stain remover properly and then stupidly put it out on the line to dry in the sun and when I went to get it in to my horror it had big bright yellow stains dotted all over it! 🙈 she's crying, I'm crying because I can't afford a new one. I'm so gutted .
I've washed it 3 times since, tried vinegar and more laundry detergent on it and still no different.

Any help and advice to get these out would be gratefully received. Thanks guys .

Depends it's a yellow stain left by soap - or if it's been bleached back to pre dye colour.

If is a stain - they trying with other products and washing - could help - if it's been bleached back to original colour you need to look at dyes.

Apparently there could be texture changes in fabric if it's bleached - which given you've left on a stain remover could easily be. I'd probably try bicarb and a new wash see if there's any change in "stain" and if not assume it's been bleached look at grey home dyes.

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 14/04/2025 09:29

Asda own brand stain remover is the best I have found - even gets grease out!
Alternatively, biological washing powder, distilled white vinegar (its with the malt vinegar in the supermarket) and a little boiling water, mix into a pasta and then using a sponge, apply the paste and rub in circular motions outwards from the centre of the stain. Straight into the washing machine afterwards.

Good luck Op!

Hi OP, if all else fails, I would buy a dark colour tint and change the colour for a darker one. I think they are called Dylan’s pots and you put them in the washing machine.

Good luck 🍀

Littlemisscapable · 14/04/2025 09:36

This happened to me with a pair of white jeans. It's the stain remover / sun chemical combination. Nothing I tried worked. Sorry OP just before you spend ££ on loads more stain remover products, would you be better off buying a dylon dye as suggested ? Will this dye consistently ? And yes haccoo is good.

zeebra · 14/04/2025 09:43

My go to product is Shout. You can get it in some stores (mainly supermarkets) and also on Amazon. It has always worked if it is just a stain rather than actual damage to the material. Just spray on the stain on the front and back of the material and put it in the washing machine. It is honestly brilliant and no I have no connection to the company but I do have some very happy friends who have tried it and been very happy with the results.

RausageSoul · 14/04/2025 09:46

Code text25 will get you 25% off a new one - not ideal but hopefully helpful

EndofDaze · 14/04/2025 09:46

As previously suggested, using dye is probably the best option especially if the decoration on it is printed rather than embroidered and if the hoodie is cotton.

I don’t know if this helps or not but Hacoo do excellent fakes (my DD’s friend has some and I would never have known the difference, she showed me t-shirts, shorts and a hoody and they seemed to be the same quality)

I came here to say this. In case you’re not familiar - it’s an app that you would need to download. When you search for your item, the images shown will not include the logos / any branding because they’re not allowed to show this, but the actual items will be branded and the quality seems to be consistently good. There are Facebook groups where people post links to the items which can be useful for helping to find exactly what you’re after. Good luck. X

Oh goodness op I want to cry too. How upsetting. No suggestions, just a friendly squeeze of the arm in solidarity

SockFluffInTheBath · 14/04/2025 09:50

OP if it’s a stain rather than bleached I’d soak as previously recommended, and leave out on the line for a few days. Let it get sun, rained on, darked on, the lot. Just leave it out there. Works for me for most stains to get the last bit out.

preimenopauserulesmylife · 14/04/2025 10:05

I can't really suggest anything that hasn't already been suggested, but just wanted to say I feel for you both.

I really hope you find a solution.

Tortielady · 14/04/2025 10:05

As I've had this experience a few times, I didn't want to read and run. Much sympathy; it's infuriating for you and your daughter, especially as the hoodie was so hard to come by. I've found, as a pp suggests, that washing and letting the weather at it does no harm, but this obviously won't work with bleach.

Coffeeishot · 14/04/2025 08:39

I think it might be the elbow grease that has stained it,the bar is yellow isn't it ? Try soaking it again then washing the whole hoodie, you might need to just buy her another one I appreciate they are expensive though .

No its not a yellow bar its white. I think it's a chemical reaction like somone else said . Yes it was £55 can get 20% off but still another £48 because I have to pay postage again..so frustrating 😑

Oh I thought the bar was yellow, have you it in the machine now? fingers crossed.

CatchingConnie · 14/04/2025 10:17

Oh, what shit luck!

I'm useless with stains, so no help from me there, but massive sympathy! I can very much imagine me doing this and I'd also be financially fucked by my mistake. I really hope one of these tips gets it wearable again.

Also here to say I was my adult height of 5,10 at age 11 and wore a 14 at that age. I still do, many years and several children later - it's very much the size I am obviously healthy at and meant to be. Nowt wrong with being an outlier for ages/size. People should reflect more on whether they actually need to say something, or if they're just making themselves look a dickhead to be a bit nasty for no reason.

TommyTyson · 14/04/2025 10:19

Oh no. I feel you. I did the same with a top I was selling on Vinted. It went bright yellow. I told the buyer who was very understanding. On the Vinted note, have you tried on there for another?

BeCyanSloth · 14/04/2025 10:20

I bought a white hoody on Vinted recently it came with those yellow spots
I used the Tesco oxi version of the vanish soaked it for a few hours then washed it again using the Tesco oxi powder and the stains were gone
Edited to say I find the Tesco oxi powder better than the vanish one

Oh its so frustrating isn't it. I did look straight on vinted someone was selling one with tags but is was a size s and tbh I can't afford it right now amyway. Single mum working part time with 2 young children and everyday living costs are a nightmare atm. Thank you

Nobody of sound mind should buy white clothes past newborn stage...

QuickPeachPoet · 14/04/2025 10:28

No advice (I hope some of the other PP's tips help) but your daughter's constant tears and tantrums, making you feel even worse is spoilt princess behaviour. OP is clearly a loving mum who has made huge sacrifices on limited resources and feels very bad for something she did in good faith and never meant to do. This is what I would expect from a 6 year old, not a pre teen about to go to secondary school (if she isn't there already). Yes, it's disappointing, yes it's frustrating, but spare her mum's feelings when she is clearly gutted. My mum once ruined one of my white tops putting it in the wash with a red sock after we had shared a suitcase for a holiday - did I whine and sulk? No. I was quietly a bit annoyed but told her not to worry about it.

That made me laugh "financially fucked!" I am indeed that right now.
And thank you for the positive body attitude toward my daughter and yourself. She is 5ft7 atm. She was 11lb born so she has always been bigger than average. Doesn't bother her though she is beautiful in every way possible. Thank you
