Please help! I've ruined my daughters whitefox hoody

So it was my daughters 11th birthday Friday she asked if she could have a whitefox hoody as one of her presents. I bought it in January and took weeks to pay it off on klarna. She wore it twice over weekend and had a few marks on it so instead of washing the whole hoody to try and keep it in good condition for longer I tried to spot stain the marks and I didn't rinse out the stain remover properly and then stupidly put it out on the line to dry in the sun and when I went to get it in to my horror it had big bright yellow stains dotted all over it! 🙈 she's crying, I'm crying because I can't afford a new one. I'm so gutted .
I've washed it 3 times since, tried vinegar and more laundry detergent on it and still no different.

Any help and advice to get these out would be gratefully received. Thanks guys .

I would soak the top in bucket with salted water, to loosen the stain, and then wash with usual detergent and Napisan, Napisan is really good on stains. And repeat if necessary, do not let the top dry if the stain is still there. Good luck.

Salt fixes stains though , that’s why you put salt in the water when you dye something isn’t it ?

baking soda and water - mix into a paste. put over the stain and leave for a good 12 hours, should draw the stain out, wash and dry on the line

That’s rude. What do you get out of that?

They’re oversized, she could be 11 neatly 12, tall etc. Let’s be supportive, it’s awful when something like this happens, especially when OP has worked hard to pay for it.

Ener · 14/04/2025 08:57

Okay. It’s not game over yet. It’ll be the elbow grease bar. Get some washing up liquid, any will do and apply it neat to stains. Rub Rub Rub with a bit of cold water. Pray it comes off or starts fading, if you can see a difference keep going. More fairy more water. Then lob all in a 40 wash with 2 scoops of fairy and line dry. Good luck

isthismylifenow · 14/04/2025 08:57

I would soak it in just water and vinegar for now.

No more chemicals, just to see if that is dried in bar soap rather than a bleach mark.

Tip for you then: stop trying. Go outside and get some fresh air, and think about how your life choices got you to the point where you’re making rude comments about children’s bodies on the internet.

With respect, the marks are not ‘stains’ now. They are where the original colour has been bleached by stain removers being left on too long. If it was me, I would see if there is a Dylon dye in the same grey (although whether you would retain the ‘marled’ effect is not guaranteed) - I have had good outcomes with using Dylon Wash & Dye on garments that have had a slight bleaching incident…….

Good luck OP, I can imagine how you feel.

Loads of girls are pretty much adult height by Year 7. I only grew about an inch after that.

What do you get out of being so vile to people?

Oh no, i had this happen with a stain remover I didn't notice had bleach in it! Ruined an expensive t shirt of DH's.
I hope you manage to sort it. X

We used to own a holiday let, and I very stupidly bought white towels for guests, I was having to replace them often due to cleaning company unable to remove the stains. I asked the cleaners to leave the towels in the housekeepers cupboard. The stains looked like fake tan etc. I said to a friend, I think I will have to dump them, she said try salted water, soak 24hrs, wash with detergent and Napisan and it worked. I can only go on my experience.

Snowandtinsel · 14/04/2025 09:11

Have you tried Ace bleach for coloured clothing? It comes in a green bottle (not the white bottle version as that is just for white clothes) It's managed to get even spag bol stains out of grey clothing here.

Inthevillages · 14/04/2025 09:13

Oh gosh no advice but I feel your pain. I remember sobbing when I hand washed dd’s new and expensive gymnastics leotard with too warm water and the black dye ran into the white bits and stained it. Then I made it worse by trying to use stain remover on the white and it went bobbly.
Give the suggestions a go but I’d buy her another one. You might be able to recoup a bit on Vinted for the stained one.

Soak in White Vanish or Ace overnight then wash.

If that doesn’t work dye it a light shade (a darker shade will show up the white stitching).

Christmasbear1 · 14/04/2025 09:18

I'm quite good at getting yellow/turmeric stains out. Put shaving foam on the stain and leave it out in the sun. I sometimes mix bicarbonate of soda with it as well.

Throwitaway12345 · 14/04/2025 09:23

Id suggest this as a last resort only - ie. If your daughter will not be wearing it regardless, but perhaps a bleach bath might just do it?

Very dilute bleach and soak the entire garment, then pull the whole thing out (take to a sink) scrub with sponge on the affected areas. Then rinse like a mad woman using your shower.

This will likely lighten the entire garment slightly (you must work quickly) but that's better than what you have currently.

Literally one cap of bleach into a filled bath - similar to a bleach bath for skin if you've ever done that for excema etc.

I've had success with this on a blue hoodie.

Also - to the very rude individual on here - I was 5'8 at 11. I'm still 5'8 now. I was generally wearing a ladies 8 as I was pre-pubescent and still child skinny/lanky! Not hard to imagine how a child who wasn't could wear a 14 - particularly in a oversized hoodie! You're a rude idiot.

EverythingIsComputer · 14/04/2025 09:23

Just want to add not to put any more than one product on before washing thoroughly to rinse it off as they might react with each other and either 1) make it worse or 2) burn away the fabric. Good luck OP
