Day 181 was an early declutter as DH decided he no longer wanted a pair of shoes. He has a tricky time finding shoes that fit and these were never really comfortable. Plus very ugly!

Got through loads these last few days. Old pens, out of date spices and oils, slippers, loads of paper work hanging around, broken toys. Charity shop pile is getting bigger!

Well, the recycling trolley is out for collection. A couple of out-of-date items from fridge into the food waste caddy.

Will try better with paperwork

IncessantNameChanger · 30/06/2025 22:55

I'm kind of back. Throwing out old medication which I should do more often and dome food.

One of my friends said we would set up a day every week to help each other. But as always seems the case, decluttering plans with others always falls through. She is a school mum so there's two weeks left to start and zero plans. I have decided to crack on. Waiting is another excuse to stall I think.

I'm so close to cracking it yet so far too. I'm starting again tomorrow I think.

Hello, I’m moving soon and need some motivation for listing things on eBay / Vinted / getting around to doing that car boot sale (finally)!

gave away 2 toys

Day 182 declutter, another dress which actually officially got decluttered over the weekend. charity bag filling up quickly but it's mainly quite large items (not very many yet)

stealthninjamum · 01/07/2025 16:09

@IncessantNameChanger you’re doing so well. I haven’t been here for a few months but I often wonder how your oldest child is and whether your dd is happy in her decluttered room.

I’m still doing my bedroom but I’ve slowed down a lot. My main out has been an old shoebox. I also used up a body lotion. I only have two now, at some point I had about 8.

A few days ago I put a ton of papers and crap from my bedroom in a big bag. When it gets cooler im going to sort through them. Hopefully that’ll be today or tomorrow - I’m sure my clutter problem started with me filling bags and then never clearing them out.

Hasthisreallyhappened · 01/07/2025 19:14

Saw a reasonably sized box of tea cups saucers, et cetera go off to a new home this afternoon and added a few more pennies to the holiday ice cream fund.

One thing I really don’t get, pretty much everybody that sends me a message through Facebook marketplace call me love or darling with lots of xxx’s. It really puts me off selling to them. DD just keeps saying look past it Mum. 🤦‍♀️

@stealthninjamum my eldest is doing OK ( touch wood) he should be off to another RGS uni as far away as the last one. I'm just praying he lasts more than one week this time. His gf is coming over from USA any day so I have plans to go to ikea. Buy say 7 packing boxes. Fill some categories up like books, toys, shoes, coats and put them into storage until she has gone. Then I can just surface declutter while she is here. That's the plan.

We also have bags of stuff that never gets unpacked like paperwork for ehcps, odds and sods like chargers leads and reading books after holidays. Dh is the worst for this. It's half my problem. Can't find things as they aren't put away so buy it again.

Dd room is a mess right now as she has made a "nest" in front of her wardrobe with quilts and cushions on the floor. But knowing I can fit everything away in 30 minutes is a life changer. The less clothes she has, the less I buy and the less she seems to need. It also meant ds13 could try on his entire Sumner wardrobe and thin it out completely for the first time ever. Everything fits him now. Except underwear. Nice not picking up clothes only to find out he already has 8 jogging bottoms as they wasn't all sorted and together.

TidyClutterIsStillClutter2025 · 02/07/2025 07:49

Started backlog of paperwork. I've fallen behind with a lot of it. A handful of out-of-date booklets and leaflets now in paper bin.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 02/07/2025 09:38

I’ve been telling my DH for months to stop hoarding flour and sugar if he’s never going to actually make anything with them. He went to use the flour the other day and it was riddled with flour beetles 🤬.
It did make me feel better to make him throw out everything he’d hoarded in the cupboard, including foodstuffs that we’d bought in Costa Rica in 2019!!

I haven’t counted any of it as it’s just bin waste, but the cupboard looks better for being emptied 😄

EllieQ · 02/07/2025 11:38

I haven’t done much decluttering in June - only 4 new items out, bringing my 2025 total to 250 items. However, we did get some previously sorted stuff out of the house including the bag of books that was sorted for donation in January, a bag of clothes to the charity shop, and 11 items listed on Vinted (3 sold so far).

Onwards to July! The school fair donation deadline is tomorrow, so I’m going to try to have a look through the toy storage this evening and see if there’s any quick wins.

TidyClutterIsStillClutter2025 · 02/07/2025 22:26

Paperwork most of today. Some in paper recycling tub, sensitive stuff burnt as shredder overheats.

Twenty-plus plastic cartons crushed and in plastics recycling bin.

Tomorrow will be much the same.

IndianSummer78 · 03/07/2025 06:56

One pair of joggers with a hole

stealthninjamum · 03/07/2025 07:47

@IncessantNameChanger that sounds so positive - that your ds is going back to uni and that your house is tidier. About six months ago I thought I’d collected up all paperwork regarding dd2 and her EHCP/ mental health but a few days ago I found letters from CAHMS in my bedroom saying they were discharging us because we have rejected their help which couldn’t be further from the truth. It will be filed but I’d really like to burn it.

im still working on my bedroom. I have a chest of drawers with nothing in it, a dressing table that’s 90% clear but a few piles of crap on the floor I’m sorting through and a bag of stuff to go to the room of doom (study) to be tidied up/ shredded. It’s definite progress.

Hasthisreallyhappened · 03/07/2025 16:17

Decided to try and have a theme for next couple of days, so it’s going to be paperwork, I’ve numerous box files with who know what in, they’ve been placed on the dining room table with a box under for shredding and another for binning. When I normally have a cuppa and a mindless scroll im going to divert to working my ways through that lot. Am on the search for a couple of specific things so hopefully will find them.

EllieQ · 03/07/2025 18:10

Posted a Vinted parcel today, so that’s the bag of Vinted clothes reduced by one and one of my stash of padded envelopes used up.

IncessantNameChanger · 03/07/2025 18:28

@stealthninjamum I have a complaint rejection from the LGO that was the exact same complaint as another one I had £1800 of compensation for. I filled that too but I'd like to file up the LGO investigators bum.

I have discovered on inspection that everywhere is a bit filthy. I need to get following my cleaning and tidying spreadsheet the hoarding lady set up for me. She said she is overstretched she might only be able to see me on zoom going forward. So another useless service so overstretched it only offers the promise of help. I will keep chatting to her.

Going to take a shopping trolly of kids clothes to a kids charity shop this weekend. The a Anglo doorstep collection. Then get a cleaner booked in.

I will go to storage with my random paperwork ( trying to thin as I pack it) then file it after ds gf goes home.

So one trip to charity shop, ideas for more boxes then storage to do this weekend.

Pigtailsandall · 04/07/2025 21:28

I'm a few days behind....it's been busy and the house has a layer of grime. I've felt tired and my dc is starting lengthy path of adhd diagnosis. We have a lot of tantrums and "big feelings".
Anyhoo, for days 183, 184 and 185 I've found a dress, a jumper and a pair of trousers. I have a bag for life full of clothes now to donate so will drop that off tomorrow. Small wins!

JK3 · 04/07/2025 21:58

Today I got rid of

a big bag of junk (battered screws, bits of DIY stuff I had no clue what it did etc)
an air bed
4 plant pots
a too-small t shirt
a bookcase
