My total for July was 4 - a leapfrog singing toy, half a box of stones, most of a box of paper creations, and random papers from DD’s school bag, bringing my 2025 total to 244. Also sold one previously counted item on Vinted and used up a padded envelope to post it. The main issue for me, as always, is getting stuff actually out of the house, for various logistical reasons.
We were visiting PIL last weekend, which is stressful due to their health issues, but their house is also really cluttered as well. They were always messy and PIL has a creative hobby that requires lots of stiff, but it has got worse as they’ve got older. BIL did a clear out / put loads of stuff in the attic earlier this year as MIL needed a hospital bed for a few weeks after an operation, but he did this while she was in hospital so she got stressed about things being thrown out that she wanted to keep/ stuff in the attic that they still use. It is hard to deal with because it makes life more difficult for them, but FIL tends to undo any organising or tidying. Eg DH cleared the dining table so we could eat there one evening, then the next morning it was half-full of stuff again.
Seeing their house always makes me determined to get on with more declutterimg, plus I’m on leave this week and the last week of August, so I’m going to try to at least get rid of one thing per day. Today I have put an old bag (broken strap so haven’t used it for probably ten years) in the fabric recycling bag.
DH is also more receptive to decluttering after a visit to his parents, so I will try take advantage of that as well.
