Day 217 declutter, empty CD case. Not sure how that's survived previous culls. I'm having a pass at sentimental items and each time I find more. Found my old stuffed toys. DC took one dog toy which I'm happy as it was one I'd loved, but what about the rest? They still bring fond memories to me but I partly kept them for my own DC, amd also cause I couldn't bear to bin them. But if my Dc isn't keen I'm not sure what to do. Surely not keep them for my grandkids as my child us 6 amd I'm in my early 40s!

Everyone is doing so well, I love reading through all the progress as it motivates me and I feel like it gives me permission to get rid of all the things that aren't used.

Second half of deck removed and stacked ready for the skip which comes tomorrow.

Another tarp of green waste ready for skip. Moss scraped from paths and grass edges cut back and black bagged for skip.

DC underwear and pjs drawer sorted and anything too small recycled. New uniform packaging recycled, uniforms washed and ready.

Iron & Ironing board holder (purchased a yr ago) unpacked and installed.

Shelf installed over breakfast counter to store items that were cluttering the sideboard.

Mantle piece cleared of clutter.
Glass recycling moved to boot of car to drop off.

My back is giving out a bit with all the outdoor work, hoping I can get the skip loaded without too much strain.

I got in the loft looking for something and threw down about five duvets all of which have been launched into the messy garage.

Also found about five bags of random clothes went through them bagged them up into one bag and now have wondered why I didn’t just chuck a lot. So tomorrow I’m going to go up and get the rest of what I put back and it can all go to the charity shop. The duvets can go to the dump.

Went through one of the kitchen cupboards as the door won’t close and lobbed five old jars of jam labelled prior to 2019.

Took another five jars which has my mum’s handwriting on the label and are reasonably current and I’m going to pass them back to her. There’s no way I’m going to eat any jam cause I’m trying to lose some weight now.

i’ve got a random day off work tomorrow and I’m going to be in blitz mode. Definitely booking a tip visit for about 3 o’clock.

TreesToday · 06/08/2025 07:49

Sounds like amazing progress @Acheyelbows!! I love doing stuff that makes such a visible difference.

I love reading the updates too, it makes me feel I can do it.

Great stuff too @Hasthisreallyhappened.

Hasthisreallyhappened · 06/08/2025 13:08

Thanks @TreesToday. Definitely on a roll, just blitzed lots of drawers and cupboards in the kitchen. I threw away about half of the stuff that was in the larder, sesame seeds with dates from 2020 and lots of things over three years old which I decided even if I did want I’d buy new so I’ve filled my food bin pretty much with random old cereal and crackers etc.

then I reorganised it so I can actually see what I have but didn’t go as far as getting my label printer out.

can’t decide on a nap or to go in the loft, a nap is possibly the winner as I didn’t sleep well last night. Booked a tip slot for tomorrow so I might get all industrious this evening.

As the weather cooled I’ve been doing lots of gardening and have decluttered a garden waste bin of ivy and various weeds. I have two borders that are out of control so I’m just going to clear everything in them and start again.

I also had a handyman build a fence as one had fallen down. He’s broken the old one up so I can go to the dump - but as mentioned before my car is full of other crap I need to get rid of first.

I took a bag of electronics and wires that I’ve been filling for a few months to be recycled at Currys. I also have three bags of clothes, rags and toys that need to go to a charity shop.

My bedroom is a state again despite me have removed lots of stuff. In fact my dining room is a bit cluttered as dd1 has been doing homework on it and she never tidies up. I’m feeling like my house has been tidy for about a year and I’ve lost some of my tidying routines so I need to make the effort again.

Acheyelbows · 06/08/2025 21:52

Day 1 of skip filling completed.

30 Cds of various music, in garage for 12 years so clearly unwanted.
Decking boards and frame.
Fence posts.
Temporary fence panel.
Chicken house wood and felt roof.
4 B&Q premade pallet style deck sections, came from old house.
Giant heavy wooden framed mirror.
Extendable Ikea table.
MDF shelves.
MDF sheet used to cover ground hole when work was being completed Dec 24.
Steel arms with wheels for a ladder x 2.
Four folders of college work A1 sized.
Smashed clock.
Stained sheets/cloths that covered items in the garage for at least 30 years x 3.
Wooden mantle piece, listed to sell two yrs ago and no takers.
Box of Irish themed glassware.
Two binbags full of A5 wooden frame parts.
One Box of reproduction prints of advertisements.
Bag of stationery, pens, pencils, crayons and bag of technical drawing equipment stored in garage for 18 years.
Sink.
Metal tool briefcase.
Two A1 plastic file folders. (2 more to empty and go)
Torn vacum bag for cushions.
Box of unused egg cartons.
Three metal biscuit tins.
One plastic biscuit tin.
8 ripped, filthy, dusty black bags - contents transferred to plastic tubs with lids.
Ripped map.
Old rug.
Rusted hammers and trowels x 2.
Bag of picture hooks, old paint brushes, rollers, tape.

Skip is about half full and I haven't added any of the tonne bags of green waste or started on the back shed which was its intended use. Opened the garage to take out some Ikea items and got caught up sorting through my parent's clutter. Despite all the binning and sorting the garage looks as full as ever.

Had this skip booked till Monday but thinking of asking for a collection and replacement with an empty one on Friday.

Good luck with the tip run and charity shop drop offs. The glass jars are still rolling around my boot..must get rid of them tomorrow.

Donation:

One blouse I feel meh about
One dress that's unflattering
One pair of jeans that don't fit

Total is 3773

TreesToday · 06/08/2025 23:36

Three coats with holes in them chucked. And another bag made up for the charity shop next time I go to work.

stealthninjamum · 07/08/2025 08:29

3 mugs have gone in donate bag. We still have loads. If I don’t miss them I might get rid of more.

JK3 · 07/08/2025 08:31

I decluttered the entire contents of my bank account taking the kids on holiday abroad. Does this count? 😂

Back on it now we’re home. Outs:

A pair of too small DS’s sandals
2 books
a too small t shirt
a too big bikini

total outs this year 756

IncessantNameChanger · 07/08/2025 10:16

Wrote a long post then lost it!

I'm going to take two bin bags of stuff to the charity shop that's already been counted. Then try to focus on listing the rest of the Vinted things. Anything with zero views after a week I'm donating. It still seems pretty dead for kids clothes.

I'm going to book an Anglo doorstep collection.

I'm going to tackle my wardrobe next to get everything in and closed. This is my wardrobe on the left and on the right is a wardrobe that has the overflow hanging on the door.

There's a pile for charity on the floor too. So one of my decluttering issues is being systematic. It should have gone into a bag straight away. But I find once one area goes a bit crazy it spreads out from there. Everything CAN fit into my wardrobe but I tend to leave things hanging on the door anyway. I wear less than 25% of this lot. Maybe I just need to follow my own advice and focus on filling one bin bag at a time and getting rid once full 😂

IncessantNameChanger · 07/08/2025 10:17

Anyone else tempted to just get rid of nearly all their clothes and have a capsule type wardrobe?

Lol this is also me!

My day 218 declutter was a skirt I'd kept for sentimental reasons. But it's not something I'll ever wear again
Day 219 was little money belt I used backpacking.

EllieQ · 07/08/2025 12:06

@IncessantNameChanger We do have one clothes bank near us, but I only have a few clothes to donate right now, and it doesn’t take rags for recycling, which is frustrating as I’ve got three bags of those to go!

DD and I had a good tidying and decluttering session yesterday. We went through the kallax storage in the living room - took each storage cube out, wiped the shelf, then went through the contexts of the cube. Found 8 toys to donate (including the last of the Paw Patrol toys), 4 old colouring books (3 gone in recycling; one barely used one to donate to a younger cousin if she wants it), and a couple of stacks of old drawings went into the recycling. I had expected DD to want to donate her dinosaur collection, but she was torn about it, so I said we’d recheck in six months. Also found some artwork I wanted to keep, so that will be moved to the artwork folder.

The cleared space meant that all her Lego could fit unto one storage cube now, meaning the toy cupboard is not overflowing!

Felt like good progress for us.

Picking up the pace again. Taking 5 bin bags of clothes, toys, books and some random household stuff to charity shop. Still loads to do, but some of the most daunting jobs are getting done. Feels great!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 16/08/2025 18:26

After quite a slow few weeks we got a load of cardboard and a bin bag and a half of textiles recycling to the tip. I feel quite accomplished as the cardboard is packaging from a large bit of furniture we bought and assembled earlier in the week. Feel so good to not have it sitting about for ages!

I've checked out a pair of boots which have broken and listed a pair of DM's on Vinted that I don't wear anymore.

Really trying to get to grips with my flat surfaces but pleased to report my desk, which I cleared off around a month or 6 weeks ago, is still clutter free!
