Decluttering thread 10 - Spring is here, time to get those surfaces clear!

Very little actual decluttering happening here this week so far. Popped round to DS's flat to let him know that I'm doing a final round of OPC (OtherPeople'sCrap) this summer, and to expect photos and lists so that he can declutter at arm's length, as it were.

Teens are onboard with sorting through their wardrobes. I'm not sure how they'll respond to the reality of a toy declutter.

I have sent to nursery some spare clothes that my child had outgrown. They are always in need in case accidents happen. Knickers and socks are well received.

gave away 6 clothing items to a friend
gave away loads of left over paving slabs from the patio
gave away a large kids toy

I keep forgetting to post... I cleaned out DC Kallax units and out went a lot of small tat, drawings, rubbish etc. i'm not going to count everything but it took me a few days to do all the drawers (usually at bedtime when DC is reading and getting ready for bed) so bunching them up like this:

Day 176, big handful of bouncy balls (maybe 5-6)
day 177, 2 small teddies
day 178, 3 brand-new pencils with erasers attached

Plus lots of smaller one-off stuff. Also pleased as DH went through a big pile of papers and I took them to work and shredded them; he also got rid of several magazines etc so our recycling bin was very full this week

I’m quite chuffed with myself. After months of not really cluttering I have spent an hour this week tidying my bedroom and study. I labelled some leads and got rid of some others. I filed some papers on adhd meds that didn’t seem to have a home and chucked out loads of old invoices. I also read a book that’s been out in my bedroom for months and it’s now ready for the donate bag. My bedroom has clearer spaces but we have home ed stuff I need to find a home for.

I finished my office! Also got rid of some stuff that hadn't sold on vinted and did a quick sweep of my dresser

Charity shop: lanyard, iron on transfer paper, dress, 2x skirts, 3x tshirts, 1xblouse

Bin / recycling: 2x old eye creams, 4 packs labels, CD, 3 cables, 2x diaries, dead houseplant, storage bottle

Total: 1450

Took the remaining car boot sale stuff to charity shop yesterday.

took some bits into work yeatersay - screen riser we had kicking about at home etc.

used up a pen wfh today

Finished the teenagers' wardrobes. Every item fits and is wanted. I paired up the pile of odd socks, and now have eight more pairs for myself that no-one else wanted. Outgrown clothes bagged for donation. Holey socks in ragbag.

Recycling bin - about a dozen plastic cartons from garage.

I reached my target for the whole year of 1,200!

Went to help our at the school fair, took ten pens with me, only managed to find five at the end. Also a certain amount out as book and toy donations. A trip to the rag bag and a trip to the charity shop. All good!

Have joined a free stuff group on fb near me and am moving over some of my non fbmp sellers. Had a few sales in the week and added to the summer holiday ice cream funds.

still on the hunt for my teasmade, did find the teapot lid a few weeks ago, today im planning on the garage AGAIN, it’s ridiculous because it was sorted a few weeks ago and now I’ve wrecked it but sold a large thing last weekend so can habe a move round today. Might crack on before it heats up.

I've managed to clear out 7 bottles of alcohol we wont drink to the school fair, its a shame we don't need any teddies as i've loads of those!

I did another 30 minutes last night. That was enough time to shred a load of documents and do more filing.i found a wire for my old iPhone and put that in the electrical recycling bag.

I found a drawer of papers in my bedroom that I’m sorting through. It’s hard, some are silly pictures that dd2 did. I’ve said this before but I find it hard to throw out things she did. She’s always struggled so hard to keep up with her peers at school and now we have to conclude she won’t be able to do GCSEs when she should. She was / is gifted at art but can’t/ won’t do it now so I do hoard her things. I might go back into the room of doom to organise her school books - until I’m ready to throw them out.

Cheese plant take only the bikinis on your next holiday. Kill or cure. You'll either adjust to them and start loving them or you'll feel so uncomfortable you end up buying a swimsuit and know you can get rid of the bikinis then. Or set yourself a goal to sunbathe in the garden in them and get some vitamin D or wear them to go swimming once a week, if you can't do it because you feel too uncomfortable then you'll know they have to go and you're not a bikini person.

Binned some underwear so small it gave me builders bum.

One large ish item gone for free this afternoon. Garage floor visible again and some order to the rest of it established.

Day 179, an extremely long beach dress type thing that's actually very sweaty too as polyester

I have spent more time in my bedroom. I have decluttered an entire ring binder of papers. It was when I opened my bank account so loads of letters about that, invoices from a plumber and a letter from 2013 from when I last gave blood. Its info is out of date so it’s being shredded.

i have also gone through my gym stuff and thrown out the stuff that’s too small. Four books are going that belonged to dc.

and I’ve filled a bag with papers to go to the room of doom to be sorted. The surfaces are clearer but I haven’t finished yet.

Took a set of books and some clothes to the charity shop today, was nice to get them out on the way to something else, I feel efficient :P Should have taken the teddies too but forgot

Day 180 declutter, big pile of dc's slime. It got played eith in the garden, the congealed and dried up. It's so gross.it was in one of my tupperwares so that's gone too.

I am thinking if swapping to glass tupperware containers as I'm a bit worried about plastics - does anyone have any/have any good recommendations?

Each time I go from the garage to the house, I take a couple of the plastic cartons to flatten and put in the recycling trolley. Two cartons today. That's it!
