Has anyone got really nice wine glasses?

I've realised that we haven't got any sets of matching wine glasses any more because they have got broken over time - we used to have loads but I can't even find four matching ones now. So I'm looking to get some new ones and wondered if anyone has some that they would recommend? Open to all types!

Riedel stemless. Wedding presents we use weekly. Love them

RandomMess · 17/01/2025 21:02

If you prefer chunkier ones I have some lovely Denby ones.

We have some “really nice” Dartington crystal ones I only bring out when I have people over. And I have some John Lewis ones which are nice but cheap enough for me to not worry about breaking them or washing them in the dishwasher.

Eleanor Goblet Glass, Set of 2

Created as an exclusive design for John Lewis, Dartington Crystal is now the only source to purchase these beautiful glasses. This graceful crystal stemware has a timeless elegance , and each piece features a unique mouth blown bubble. The Eleanor desi...

I get Argon Tondo glasses in multipacks. I adore lovely glassware and used to have hand-blown crystal and/or artisan glass. Thousands of pounds later, I accepted that I'm too clumsy for such things! Stemless ones are harder to knock over, too, so these actually last longer.

I just but them cheaply from IKEA. The teenagers are too heavy handed when begrudgingly doing the dishwasher.

Monty27 · 17/01/2025 21:23

When you're having to replace glasses get everyday with a decent design. I love the non stemmed stuff. And the heavy based taller glasses for longer drinks both sizes very flexible and presentable; less breakages and less fuss 👍

I've just been given a set of La Rochere Perigord wine glasses which are quite practical as they are chunky:

After years of watching family break countless ‘nice’ glasses we’ve now settled on Dunelm Ravello white, red and champagne glasses. £9 for 4, surprisingly nice quality and I don’t want to weep everytime I watch one drop slow motion to the floor every Christmas.

RosesAndHellebores · 17/01/2025 21:34

I just buy cheap ones and replace regularly. Combination of dishwasher cloud and a stone kitchen floor :(

spinningbirds · 17/01/2025 21:36

My husband bought us a pair of Waterford crystal glasses, they are gorgeous to use, just the right size and very elegant

and I’ve just seen they’re on offer - I might buy another pair!

I’m not a fan of stemless wine glasses as holding the bulb warms the wine (more of an issue at parties than at dinner).

I am gutted that Ikea have discontinued the wine glass version of their ubiquitous Pokal tumbler. Fantastic for parties and barbecues as they are almost indestructible and I love the kitsch look.

Stemless but I like the Spanish Bodega stacking wine glasses, if you want cheap and cheerful.

If you like vintage, I have a soft spot for the mid century Luminarc green stemmed glasses.

If you want a classic wine glass (and don’t have butterfingered teens loading the dishwasher), 100% Riedel but not the stemless ones. They have grape specific glasses that are supposed to improve the flavour.

I have all of the above but the Riedel ones are only for civilised people who can be trusted not to break them!

ZoeyBartlett · 17/01/2025 21:39

Big Reidel fan. After numerous breakages I get ours from Nisbets now - they have stemless ones as well.

itwasmadeofelm · 17/01/2025 21:40

The ones I get the most comments on are my Morrisons Iconic wine glasses. Super cheap and lovely! I mainly use these for red wine. Also - LSA international Borough glasses from John Lewis. I use these for white. Just fits better 😂 I have 8 of each of the above and would replace them all in a heartbeat.

shinebrightlikeanemerald · 17/01/2025 21:45

I only like really thin glass/crystal ones. Can’t stand drinking out of clunky ones. I usually get mine from TK MAX but it’s hit and miss if they have any in. Sometimes pick them up cheaper in France. I have to get them out of the box and feel them too.

Ilovemyshed · 17/01/2025 21:47

Riedel or Chef & Sommelier, bought from a catering supplier. Plain glass and very fine rim.

BlossomValley · 17/01/2025 21:49

Riedel.

BusyExpert · 17/01/2025 21:50

look at David Mellor there is a shop in London and in the Lake District and they sell on line. our latest glasses come from there

wheresmyshoe · 17/01/2025 21:50

DH uses a supermarket wine glass, there are some nice ones and so easily replaceable. These are also for non-wine nerd visitors.
I use Gabriel Glass standart as my everyday glass. These are great, thin but reasonably robust, I use these for wine friends.
For special wines I use my Zalto glasses. They're so fragile, expensive and tricky to replace that I have one each of a few shapes, only I handle them. DH will swerve well away from any surface they are on, he doesn't trust them not to leap off and shatter.

JaninaDuszejko · 17/01/2025 21:52

Reidel are the best. We also have anice set of 12 Dartington crystal ones wegot freefrom Magestic. So that was nice.

TheHomeEdit · 17/01/2025 21:55

Reidel restaurant glasses are good if you tend to break a lot. Can order then from Nisbets.co.uk. Lots of different styles. They are also dishwasher safe.

Reallybadidea · 17/01/2025 22:03

We have Krosno glasses in various styles. They're nice but not so nice that it's a disaster if they get broken

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 17/01/2025 22:05

David Mellor for us too. They are lovely and thin at the rim but so far, only one broken, because they are big enough to be able to be dried easily. They are so elegant yet practical:

We got some nice and inexpensive wine glasses from ProCook.
