Has anyone got really nice wine glasses?

I've realised that we haven't got any sets of matching wine glasses any more because they have got broken over time - we used to have loads but I can't even find four matching ones now. So I'm looking to get some new ones and wondered if anyone has some that they would recommend? Open to all types!

I think I might be a weirdo with this one, but I love my IKEA ones because they are stackable, and don't get easily swept off the coffee table by wagging dog tails https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/ikea-365-goblet-clear-glass-70278363/

These are what we have too, I bought them year ago and haven't broken any. I love them. Before these we had just the normal wine glasses and I was forever breaking them!

Love that story @Another2Cats

I think those green stemmed things are traditional Alsace wine glasses. I've yet to see an actual one - pictures only!

I’m not a fan of stemless wine glasses as holding the bulb warms the wine (more of an issue at parties than at dinner).

I am gutted that Ikea have discontinued the wine glass version of their ubiquitous Pokal tumbler. Fantastic for parties and barbecues as they are almost indestructible and I love the kitsch look.

Stemless but I like the Spanish Bodega stacking wine glasses, if you want cheap and cheerful.

If you like vintage, I have a soft spot for the mid century Luminarc green stemmed glasses.

If you want a classic wine glass (and don’t have butterfingered teens loading the dishwasher), 100% Riedel but not the stemless ones. They have grape specific glasses that are supposed to improve the flavour.

I have all of the above but the Riedel ones are only for civilised people who can be trusted not to break them!

Agree re not liking stemless but more for the reason that if you have eg cheese on your hands from the cheese course and you hold the glass, your glass becomes sploggy. I'm not sure given how freezing my house is that any wine could be warmed by my icicle hands. Maybe cooled instead?

Caithness glass

You've just reminded me we were given two beautiful Caithness wine glasses as a wedding present but I think they are both long gone. I can't find any online now either which is such a shame. I wish we appreciated them more when we had them.

We have a pair of Riedel red wine glasses which we just use for anniversaries or other special occasions. Good for swishing the wine around.
We have two Gorden Ramsey glasses which are HUGE and don't use often. One I love using is a Dartington wine glasses which are which I got a pair of at a wine tasting at a wedding show. Sadly one got broken but this one has survived so far.
Another I really liked using I actually found in the street on my dog walk. It was on a wall next to a broken wine bottle and I left it for a few days before rescuing it and running through the dishwasher several times. It felt so nice in my hand, sort of a tulip shape and quite thick glass but the goblet bit was thinner. Dh broke it and I was gutted. Yet to find a replacement.

Habitat Dalston - thin and classy, look a bit average on the page, very restaurant style feel irl. we have 4 boxes of which 3 stay away so we actually manage to keep matching sets when needed

For me, the height is crucial ......... So I can fit them in the dishwasher 😂

Also, if you are going to put them in the dishwasher, making sure the stems are robust enough to not break.

I do have very posh wine glasses that have to be washed by hand. I use these at Christmas and if we have guests. If it's just me, I use the short wine glasses that we got from TK maxx

PlanetJungle · 19/01/2025 08:08

I'd rather hand wash and enjoy the glass.

The stemless were a bit of a thing with us for a while, we had them because they weren't so easily knocked over - but we missed the stem, we occasionally use them for outside (to reduce chance of breakages) and can be good substitute for plastic.
Anyone have any good recommendations for shatterproof glasses for outside?

ShakespeareInTurmoil · 19/01/2025 08:53

Love our habitat Porto Fino ones I think there’s called. Dirt cheap and a lovely size. Delicate and thin and a joy to drink from.

Livelaughlurgy · 19/01/2025 09:31

We have the IKEA ones too, I bought about 12 and havnt broken one yet and they are exclusively in the dishwasher. So nice when people are over that they're all the same. We have Vera Wang ones for state occasions.

Newposter180 · 19/01/2025 09:35

These are lovely. Most of the recommendations here aren’t actually wine glasses which the op specified. If too $$ I’d look in tk maxx, they often have nice ones.

TheTecknician · 19/01/2025 11:06

These are my whisky and highball glasses. RCR Brilliante.

Has anyone got really nice wine glasses?

How are you defining an actual wine glass?

Oldraver · 19/01/2025 12:23

A mixture of Denny and Debenhams and I think Dunelm etched ones

"A glass you put wine in" is clearly not the correct answer on this thread 😂

Thanks to the PP who've shown universal wine glasses. Isn't that a lovely shape! I'll probably stick with supermarket stemless, though, as my propensity to break things is only increasing with age.

sunshinechaser · 19/01/2025 12:25

@TheTecknician they are lovely! I had a link at that brand but wonder how crystal can be so cheap. Do they feel nice and heavy?

CleftChin · 19/01/2025 12:30

I like thin glass that rings when you tap it, and I prefer a stem (my hands aren't big enough for the stemless I have, so I don't enjoy holding them, even though they look lovely)

My favourite glasses are from Lidl! The ones they get in a couple of times a year. They're thin, they sound lovely, and they're cheap so I don't get upset if one gets broken, and they go through the dishwasher (if I can be bothered with lowering the top shelf so they fit..)

BoudiccasBangles · 19/01/2025 12:43

I buy vintage crystal. Mine are all mismatched so when heavy handed DH breaks another one it’s not such a problem. The colours in vintage crystal are beautiful. My DCs are fascinated by the fairies on the table when the light shines through the stems.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 19/01/2025 13:12

I like Dartington. Simple but stylish.
