I haven’t been very productive as dds home and we’re home schooling at the moment. Shes very depressed / anxious so not doing much. Meanwhile the council are approaching unsuitable large mainstreams as we have an ehcp. They’re rejecting her because her needs are too great but obviously the council don’t want to spend any money. Dd has decluttered an old witch costume and a dress.

i have spent a few hours sorting through Lego.

i also tidied my baking cupboard and threw out very old royal icing sugar and fondant icing sugar. I know these things tend to last forever but I’m trying to cut down on ultra processed foods and so have bought a load of seeds and nuts to add to meals so that we can be healthier so overall nothings gone out but the cupboard is organised.

stoppostingreminder · 18/01/2025 15:52

can I join please? I've gotten rid of so much already this year but could do with some ongoing inspo. Chucked out a frying pan earlier. So much more to get rid of tho.

Pigtailsandall · 18/01/2025 16:20

I forgot to post yesterday but day 17 declutter was lots and lots of small toys and papers etc from party bags. Counting it all as one. That veers a bit close to not counting maintenence decluttering but tbh it was a decent bunch of stuff

Day 18 - t-shirt which I was keeping for "dirty jobs" but tbh I have enough for those rare gardening days 😅

Today I got rid of an old cot mattress.
YTD 30.

Realfastfoodie · 18/01/2025 18:24

I’ve totally lost count 🤯 i think I’ve got a bunch of things out of the door and earmarked for going!

CheesePlantFeet · 18/01/2025 19:50

We sorted through the stationary cupboard today. Got rid of a stack of old papers, used note pads and general rubbish. Not counting it all individually

Sold on vinted: coat, shoes, gloves
Charity shop: bag of clothes, 2 games pads
Recycling and bin: Stationary stuff

Wow! You're all doing so much better than me.
Soft plastics out this morning. Discovered some boxes from online Christmas shopping in our bedroom so they've gone in the recycling.
In my to use up box of toiletries, I have a lot of bars of soap, so have bought a suction soap dish for the shower to use them up and not just at the sinks. It also means I won't buy shower gel for me.
I'm really not having luck with Vinted sales at the moment. I'm hoping to have a bit more time in the next couple of weeks to actually get rid of more stuff.

Poisonwood · 18/01/2025 22:36

Can I join you all? I really need to get on top of the clutter, and sort far better storage for things too. My really big win today was decluttering the kitchen windowsill for the first time in a fair while. It now has two houseplants on it, that’s it. No oddments of paperwork, glass recycling, multivitamins, medicine syringes, half used washing up liquid bottles. It’s made such a huge difference to the room and to my brain. Tomorrow I’m doing the tops of the cupboards/freezer.

IndianSummer78 · 18/01/2025 23:35

One scratched CD binned. Total is 3142

Good start poisonwood

HellonHeels · 18/01/2025 23:54

Been working away this week so got stuck in tonight. Went through bathroom cabinets and put together a bag of stuff to donate to the local church that has a "help yourself" shelf of donated toiletries and other essentials for anyone who needs them

Outs:
Rancid peanut butter
Empty bottles to bottle bank
Plastic pot to recycling
More papers from the home office

Bathroom junk/rubbish binned
decayed makeup out
rancid essential oil out

Load of period stuff, towels and tampons to donate
2 sets of other toiletries, samples, etc to donate

Nothing done today. Just sewing. I sew quilts as a hobby. Noticed ds top he was wearing is far too small so that can go.

Stealth - you have my sympathy. I had a hissy fit with my LA on Monday cc my MP who is rather notorious so they caved in pretty fast. Dd can stay on and finish juniors now. A years breathing space to appeal.

I find it really hard to do anything while I'm stressing over education issues

username299 · 19/01/2025 00:24

I don't have much to report. I bought some seagrass storage baskets which were a revelation. I managed to fit loads in them and put them on empty shelves in the bathroom. I cleared out a lot from cupboards.

I have filled two more bin bags with rubbish and have booked in the tradespeople to repair the carpet and fit new flooring in the hallway.

I need to book another charity collection.

I'm currently looking for a decent stick on shower caddy for soap and bottles. Mine was Croydex I think, and keeps falling off the tiles. I'm concerned about buying something else that doesn't stick.

EllieQ · 19/01/2025 09:24

Days 14,15, and 16 of 31 days of decluttering: nothing done.

Day 17: 7 baby bottles (DD is 9 🙈) finally removed from a kitchen cupboard to be binned (and making space for a tea set that belonged to my grandmother), and a stack of train tickets from journeys taken last year (why did I keep them?) binned.

Day 18 (yesterday): DD had a friend over for a play date in the afternoon, so the morning was mostly spent tidying and cleaning, but DH did do some shredding (from an overflowing bag in the corner of the dining room), which I’m counting as 1. It annoys me because he chucks everything in there (letters, leaflets, envelopes) so it builds up quickly, but if he made the effort to sort it as he goes and put stuff that doesn’t have to be shredded straight in the recycling, it wouldn’t get full so quickly. He’s always doing stuff like that and at almost 50, he’s not likely to change!

HellonHeels · 19/01/2025 09:29

@username299 I've tried lots of stick on storage over the years and they've all failed, generally sooner rather than later.

Good luck with the search.

HellonHeels · 19/01/2025 09:32

I forgot two more outs. Boyfriend has had two large bottles of engine oil and windscreen wash in the hallway, ever since he cleared out his old car to sell (getting on for six months ago...)

Finally got him to put them in the boot of the new car 😱

I need to get back on track, my goal is to declutter enough that its worth getting a cleaner. Problem is that my partner and son both have hoarding tenancy, but a lot of the stuff is mine too!

Got 2 bags of toys and clothes to the charity shop yesterday. I have also sold 4 items of clothing on vinted which I can post today.

The clutter gets me down so much, we need new carpets but its going to be such a mare to clear the rooms to lay it.

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 19/01/2025 09:38

Yesterday’s declutter - four more jamjars in the in the glass bin.

Riverswims · 19/01/2025 10:05

I really don’t know where to start right now? declutter as I pack I suppose? we went away for Christmas and it was fun then we were ill but I’ve not done any organizing decluttering since, I need to find some specific paperwork asap for the sale so I can look for that whilst decluttering/filtering I suppose 😕 🎊

ThatRoseBiscuit · 19/01/2025 14:54

This weekend I tackled a small wardrobe and recycled two old suit jackets, three suit bags, a coat and some hangers. I moved DHs more formal work wear here and hopefully that will keep things more organised.

LivingInaBuiltSite · 19/01/2025 15:11

Welcome to all the newbies 👋 good luck with your Decluttering!

I have done lots of ‘other’ jobs like Governor meetings, blood tests, a couple of runs, etc. not really got on with Decluttering though.
Have friends coming on Friday to assemble DD’s IKEA wardrobe so need to prepare for that, move clothes, wardrobes, drawers, etc. that might get a few items out. Or at least organised.

Jobs:

  1. Hang up framed pictures: approx 10?
  2. DS2 paperwork: blue badge started
  3. my British passport application - need passport photos next Tomorrow, then references, then make appointment
  4. DS1’s gaming, PC, nerf collections to go through and tidy
  5. Portfolio work -need to email tutor to mark completed sections next: emailed Tutor ☑️
  6. get DS1’s bed ready DONE ☑️ & spare bed ready for MIL
  7. get DD to clear out her clothes, move old wardrobe and drawers out, clear out my old wardrobe and swap over

Not quite outs yet:
scooter hooks x 3 onto FB, need to bump up
leggings to pass to running friend
unwanted running top
3 x Christmas puzzles
fugly Santa thing MIL gave us
see if anyone wants a mostly working prelit Christmas tree

Out:
faded old tshirt
3 x too small pjs for DS2
57+4=61

CheesePlantFeet · 19/01/2025 16:16

Pigtailsandall · 19/01/2025 17:21

Day 19 declutter- DH dress short. It's a bit too small now and we have no fancy events coming up. Even if we did he'd have to buy a new one.

@LivingInaBuiltSite I bought dc an ikea wardrobe six months ago. I till haven't built it. I'm so embarrassed. It needs 2 people and dh and I never seem to have time.

Got H to go through some of his paper admin.

Much left but a decent amount recycled, shredded and filed knowing where it is. My “show it in and deal with it later or at least we know it’s in that bag” bag is 2/3rds empty. Rest I can do solo I think. Then we can progress to historical stuff.

He even went through some leads. Can’t visually see much difference but he is booking a tip run next weekend.

JK3 · 19/01/2025 19:53

sold 2 items on Vinted
gave away some trousers and 2 sets of bedding
1 book to charity
2 dresses to a friend

total 125 so far this year

Realfastfoodie · 19/01/2025 20:00

Any quick tips or suggestions to share? I’m feeling a bit lost with it all again.
