New thread!
Hope you all find this! It's not letting me tag people..

I am having a nightmare with the textile recycling at the moment. I took two bags to the bins by the station on my way to work before Christmas, only to find they had been removed, so I had to lug them into the office. Then I saw the bins had been replaced with new ones, so took the bags down this morning only to find they were full up. 😩I have to admit that I just left the bags next to the bin in the hope that it'll be collected....

We seem to suddenly have a ton of shoes cluttering up the hallway so a cull of those is probably due - lots of pre-teen chunky boots taking up all the space!

IndianSummer78 · 15/01/2025 14:22

A damaged CD binned and a catalogue recycled. Total is 3135

EllieQ · 15/01/2025 14:26

Day 14 of 31 days of decluttering (yesterday): Nothing decluttered, which is the first time in this monthly challenge 😟I was in the office all day, then went straight to a meeting for a group I volunteer with, and didn’t get home until after 8.30pm, and was quite tired. I’ll aim for two things today to make up for it.

Christmasandallthetrimmings · 15/01/2025 15:54

Oh everything's gone horribly wrong the last few days ...but it could be worse, as I keep being reminded by the LA fires.

I booked a cleaner to do a deep clean of the whole house and they didn't manage it. Not only did they not manage the whole house, but they didn't even deep clean the spots they did clean- just a surface clean. I felt deflated as was so looking forward to having a super shiney sorted house after days of tidying and all the decluttering from beforehand. So many spots still need a deep clean and now there's stuff piled up all over where I moved things for the cleaning to take place (even where it didn't 🙈😂). İt was the time estimated by the cleaners of how long it would take, so I didn't under estimate the time and my house wasn't filthy, there was just a lot of pines in the living room carpet and some sprinkles from a baking explosion. But no real dirt anywhere, other than just the deep cleaning I asked them to do, like down the side of the fridge, windows, skirtings etc....you must know the spots I'm on about. Anyway, so I still need to deep clean, which is very disheartening, and THEN I found out they had broken the hoover tube- snapped clean off and not told me, so I now have to hoover with the tube held in place! I can't be arsed to chase them for a replacement, as they obviously knew what they'd done and scarpered without telling me, but I just won't use them again....in all the frustration I forgot to put the bin out last night, so that's now full and a couple of bits I chucked out for the scrap man haven't been picked up- which is unusual as things always get picked up quickly round here.

I'm sure I'll have my tidy house soon enough, even if it isn't today as I hoped/planned....have chucked out 2 things though, so that's my total moving a little bit this week.

Aiming to get on top of the huge pile of laundry and it all away, so can go and tackle the spare bedroom where I've dumped everything when we moved in October and then I can go through my vinted pile and start selling stuff (if anything to replace the hoover!).

HellonHeels · 15/01/2025 18:20

@Christmasandallthetrimmings that's really bad of the cleaners (shoddy clean and not telling you about the hoover) Can you review them anywhere?

I WFH today so spent my lunch break walking down to the charity shop and back. Annoyed with myself for forgetting to take the ikea framed print.

Outs:
cloth bag
bag of beads, badges, pins
unused set of coloured pencils
book
storage box
unused gift bag

Total 73

Mine is turning into a nightmare as well. I discovered another bald spot in the carpet, so have been getting quotes for repairs.

Have managed to give away some stuff though.

CheesePlantFeet · 15/01/2025 20:30

Hi, I'm new to the thread. Starting the year using an app called tody which is basically a to-do list that you create room by room, and each job can be set up to repeat over any timeframe you like. Tick a job off and get a point, try to keep up with your monthly points goal. Its shared on my and dh phones. It removes the mental load for me and I love a to-do list!

In terms of decluttering, I've said goodbye to a broken toaster, a kettle, an old coat, a jigsaw, framed picture, and a shoehorn.

Total 7

You gotta start somewhere!

JK3 · 16/01/2025 00:18

Today I gave away 3 bags of kids’ stuff, two pairs of shoes and some jeans that were too small.

a bag of toys to charity
one Vinted sale

total outs 103!

EllieQ · 16/01/2025 12:38

Day 15 of 31 days of decluttering (yesterday): another zero decluttering day, apart from throwing away a hair bobble where the elastic had snapped. A bit disappointing, but I knew it would be harder to keep up the daily decluttering once I was back at work.

Pigtailsandall · 16/01/2025 12:43

Day 15 declutter - a magazine I was never going to read from ages ago
Day 16 - a small tube of clay face mask, unopened so given to a friend

I need to list a few more things on Vinted, but I also need to drop a few things to the charity shop. DH has gained a bit of weight, bless him, so he has a few trousers and shorts he wants to declutter. He doesn't want to replace them but his wardrobe is already quite minimal so we'll see how that goes!

I haven't posted for a few days, but I had two very productive days and decluttered quite a lot last weekend. My DD, was miraculous very receptive to getting rid of some toys she had outgrown! We got rid of 6 of her bigger toys and 4 books, which we took to a charity. I threw away a puzzle that was missing a piece. I also bought a trolley with 4 drawers to organise the smaller toys she still has in there by categories (this was her idea!). These were her toys in the living room

I decluttered the kitchen cupboard with baking items. I threw away several things that were out of date, some of them from 2022!

The plans for the rest of the week: declutter DD's room from some toys and some books, decide which workbooks from year 1 and 2 we are keeping, as we cannot keep all of them (we'll maybe keep two per year)

IndianSummer78 · 16/01/2025 18:34

I gave away three popit toys and two books. I recycled more cardboard. I'm enjoying my new habit and I can see a difference. I need to introduce more systems and get the DC involved in putting the things away.

bag of kids’ toys sold on Vinted
bag of bath toys
2x bubbles from kid’s party
3 books
a game
a coat
a bag of things dropped off at a friend’s house
1 bag of kids clothes taken by a friend

IncessantNameChanger · 18/01/2025 00:05

Did a fair pass of the box room yesterday.
16th 3 hangers, Reed diffuser, dd coat Vinted

18 items Binned ( Inc old school bags, hangers etc)

32 to charity ( ds & dd clothes and shoes)

Sky boxes to bin? X 2

15 items in vinted bag

In = 5

Out = 88

Regretting throwing out ds named school bag now. I kept his brothers. I might fish it out if the bin.

Had my first ever problem as a seller on Vinted. Made me quite anxious as it was my item and I normally only the kids stuff. I sold a lovely jumper as I wanted to make more room. It had one tiny pull I didn't notice so asked for a return. I'd rather not haggle on price and they just contacted Vinted so presume that's what I should do.

I'm really starting to see a big difference in the house now. I need to get dd some more uniform so must not buy more than I get rid of
