Does anyone else feel great satisfaction at being able to hang laundry outside in the sun?

We don't have a tumble dryer (no space), and I feel so satisfied seeing my freshly washed laundry hanging outside in the sun. Better for the environment, dries quicker, smells nicer once dry, with the occasional waft of freshener drifting through the open window. Bonus points if it's something I can put on a hanger and hang outside, then put it straight in the wardrobe once dry.

I never thought I'd find something like this satisfying! We've never lived anywhere that could fit a tumble dryer (apart from before we moved out of our family homes), and I hate hanging stuff indoors, it just gets in the way or takes about two days to dry and fills the room up with condensation.

Anyone have any household chores just fill them with such happiness?

StanleyGoodspeed · 02/09/2023 12:14

Me, Just put a load out!

SunnieShine · 02/09/2023 12:16

I love it too. I'm planning a massive laundry catch up (duvets, jackets, curtains etc) for next week when it's sunny.

Raayy · 02/09/2023 12:18

Yes. I find it very odd that I only know two people locally who hang out their washing. I have a dryer but have only used it for emergencies so about three times in two years.

happydayseh · 02/09/2023 12:19

Meee and I am currently walking round the house looking for things to wash just so I can make the most of it!

Teapleasebobb · 02/09/2023 12:21

Yes! It's one of the things I look forward to most after winter and it's the only time I get to see the bottom of my wash basket!

GrandHighPoohbah · 02/09/2023 12:23

I love line dried washing. I am always a bit sad when I switch to the drier in the winter, but it's one of those little harbingers of spring that I look forward to every year.

Needmorelego · 02/09/2023 12:23

Yes....but today is my last day to be able to do it as tomorrow I am leaving Mother in Law's house and her back garden and "whirlygig" clothes line back to my flat with no balcony or private outdoor space 😭

MrsMitford3 · 02/09/2023 12:24

100%

Prompting me to put a load on now!

You're not wrong, it's one of life's little pleasures.

Blackscrackleanddrag · 02/09/2023 12:25

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/09/2023 12:26

I do this too

marshmallowfinder · 02/09/2023 12:28

I love it too. 2 loads done and pegged out first thing! I also love the way it connects us with the generations of women who've gone before. Pegging out the washing. Has been part of life forever...🥰

GetToTheChopperrr · 02/09/2023 12:28

Absolutely! We moved house in January and DH put me up a double washing line for Valentine's Day 😂😂

ShowOfHands · 02/09/2023 12:29

I only ever dry outside so it's not really a pleasure but a necessity. It's a relief when it's sunny and breezy though because I don't have to do the in out, rehang, cross fingers dance.

Justcallmebebes · 02/09/2023 12:37

Yep, got my sheets out now

Toseland · 02/09/2023 12:38

Me, just finished hanging out a second load today. I always line dry if possible even in winter and love really hot days when I do all our pillows and duvets and everything comes in smelling nice.

TheYadaYada · 02/09/2023 12:41

I’m the opposite. I enjoy the speed and convenience of the tumble dryer.

I’ve never seen washing out in either neighbour’ gardens, so I guess they’re the same!

BruinBear96 · 02/09/2023 12:43

Yep, I love line drying! It's always a few minutes peace and quiet to myself while I put it out/bring it back in too. I'm one of very few of my street who hang out washing. I guess other people use airers and the tumble dryer, but I find things smell a bit damp if dried indoors. Also, I can't justify the cost of using the tumble dryer unless I absolutely have to use it.

ApolloandDaphne · 02/09/2023 12:44

I've done three loads and got them all hung out. I get a lot of pleasure just looking at my washing hanging there.

Teapleasebobb · 02/09/2023 12:45

I've just put the winter coats in!
