All gross to me.

I open windows and keep things clean.

IHateLegDay · 07/05/2023 21:35

I keep the windows open all day, hoover regularly and spray a bit of vanilla air fresher.
The house smells really nice.

dudsville · 07/05/2023 21:35

Open windows. I have dogs, we need open windows. Also bathing and laundry are important. And good bins.

Iminthemoneylife · 07/05/2023 21:35

Just a clean house and fresh air. Air freshener smell vile to me.

MrsPoliportsGoose · 07/05/2023 21:37

I wash the floors and surfaces with a bit of Zoflora lemon zing in the water or sprayed on a cloth. I also put it in with my laundry, the whole house generally smells of lemons.

Hazelnuttella · 07/05/2023 21:38

Daily mini airing (open windows for 15 mins in the morning). Longer airing at the weekend.

Wash things like sofa cushion covers, throws, door mats, rugs etc.

Occasional febreeze on things that can’t be washed.

Blondey2023 · 07/05/2023 21:38

Never sleep with your window closed. Always open windows during the day to let in fresh air. Nothing worse than old stagnant air in someone's home. Light a nice scented candle too x

Snoopyandthemuppets · 07/05/2023 21:40

Sleep with bedroom window open all year round and because of multiple dogs windows open daily - windowsills cleaned weekly etc

doadeer · 07/05/2023 21:41

Open windows a lot.

I have an oil diffuser and use fresh smells like eucalyptus.

I use purdey and figg cleaning products which smell fab

Copasetic · 07/05/2023 21:41

Candles. I love them.

DietCokeUser · 07/05/2023 21:42

Open the window. Can’t stand air fresheners.

Veryfishy · 07/05/2023 21:44

Open windows
Don't have pets
Wash sheets , towels . Clothes etc ( not every day , but the day before it’s needed ) don’t use fabric softener and dry outside if possible
change bag in vacuum cleaner frequently

vivaespanaole · 07/05/2023 21:45

Open window. Scented products make me wheeze and don't smell good to me.

CatMattress · 07/05/2023 21:46

Fresh air and clean soft furnishings

Blarn · 07/05/2023 21:47

Open windows, make sure plugholes are fresh, empty bin and make sure it is clean, keep upholstery clean. No damp cloths or towels lying around. For nice smells I will have a reed difuser or light a scented candle.

TicTac80 · 07/05/2023 21:47

I have windows open a little bit at at night (and when we are out of the house). When we are at home, windows are wide open. For a short time each morning, whilst we are getting ready, I'll have the doors opened too (really airs the house out!). I like the house aired out nicely each day.

We hoover the place daily. Curtains washed twice a year. Sofa covers washed every couple of months. Pet beds/blankets (I have 4 Cats) washed weekly. I've got an automatic litter tray for the cats that is thoroughly cleaned each week. I use a tiny bit of Zoflora in the mop bucket (I have wooden floors and quarry tile floors). The DC and I wash up/stack dishwasher after each meal, and we don't leave food out. Bins cleaned weekly. I think all of this does help keep the place from being smelly. I'd hope that someone would tell me if they did find it smelled bad!!

AssertiveGertrude · 07/05/2023 21:48

I open the windows and also burn essential oils eg cinnamon, lemon and peppermint depending on the time of year

Also change the bins daily and cooking smells are limited as I batch cook a lot so don’t cook each evening

bleach or pine down the toilets before bed

All kitchen side and fronts of doors cleaned with flash spray wipe done
All windowsills wiped down with spray bleach
Hoover 3-4 times a day windows open all day
Kitchen and bathroom floor cleaned with hot water and bleach
Also nice smelly oil on cotton pad and stick it in hoover that's what I do ever day

imisscashmere · 07/05/2023 21:50

People who leave the windows open all day/night long - do you do this when it’s minus 2 degrees outside?

That all sounds foul.

We keep the house clean and open windows every day. Upstairs windows are open all year round.

CherryBlossom321 · 07/05/2023 21:51

My windows are open for hours every day and clean thoroughly but I still find for a pleasant rather than “nothing” smell, I like candles and plug in’s.

Temporaryname158 · 07/05/2023 21:54

All air freshener products smell chemical and vile to me.

I regularly air the house, open windows and back door daily even in winter. Even if just for 10 minutes.

always ensure the bathroom is aired after showering so that damp smell isn’t in there.

mop floors with hot water and bleach

dust regularly

hoover regularly

never leave washing drying until the musty stage

occasionally I burn a scented candle but more because I like the candle than hoping it will hide smells.

I think the art of to remove any bad smells than to try and cover them up!

HuffPuffBosomHoik · 07/05/2023 21:56

It's a Mumsnet favourite but I love Zoflora. I use the concentrated disinfectant to mop bathrooms and downstairs (all hard floors) and the spray stuff on surfaces. It really does smell good.

I also use peppermint oil and eucalyptus to repel ants and foxes from my front door (the former because they troop through my house in the summer and the latter because they shit on my front path 🤢)

piedbeauty · 07/05/2023 21:56

I hate all air fresheners. They make me sneeze. Plenty of fresh air is best.

CaptainSeven · 07/05/2023 21:56

Open the windows. Keep the bathroom and kitchen clean. Empty the bins.

Keep the bathroom door closed after DS has been in there! Training him to keep it clean and do courtesy flushes!

Don't like sprays, candles, air fresheners, plug-ins. So bad in terms of emissions/air quality. There's a term for this which I've forgotten.

Sleep with the window open, even when it's freezing outside! In fact that's the best. Nice cold air is brilliant. Love being warm under the duvet, breathing in fresh, cool air!
