Fledglings Flying into Jubilee June

Hello everyone, and welcome to the June Flylady thread.

We welcome newbies and returnees - if you are curious about the system feel free to ask questions or lurk! We do follow it, erm, loosely to say the least. So there is a lot of chat about random life stuff as well as housework, decluttering and organising.

A key element of flylady is not being a perfectionist. Most of us here are not naturals at housekeeping etc, so please don’t feel we are some intimidating group who demand perfectly shined sinks. We are human. We fall off the wagon. We commiserate and help each other climb back on, and we stock the virtual naughty corner with snacks and blankets for the days when adulting is just too hard.

So, the system:
🔹Some baby steps which are designed to help you build up a routine.
🔹Daily missions to help with sprucing up particular areas in the zones, for example the first zone of the month is the entry/porch and dining room if you have one.

🔹Try and do 15 minutes decluttering a day. It didn’t get cluttered in a week so it will take a lot longer to clear it!

🔹Daily focuses to help shape the week.
🔹Here on the thread many of us post to do lists, but also “ta da” lists of things we’ve achieved that day.
🔹We also recommend the Power of Three technique - if you’re overwhelmed with too much to do, just pick three things and don’t think about the rest.

Anyway, I will post some links each day (hopefully) but whether you follow the system or not - many of us just take the bits we like or build our own flylady style system to suit our own lives - do join in if you want a place to chat about keeping a house and family running!

Posted that without checking. Obviously I meant isn’t causing too much pain Hills, and muchly jealous which obviously isn’t really a word so my phone doesn’t like it.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 21/06/2022 12:01

Muchly should definitely be a word!

I have managed a bit of work this morning, feeling very sleepy! I feel like I’m not really coping with anything other than my job at the moment - even tutoring is a struggle. I suppose in a way it will be nice to have summer off from work really.

I now have some quiet time because the others have left for DS’ chemistry and physics lesson.

Up I may have to look into that YouTube channel, thank you for the suggestion! The thing with the closet is it has been sitting in the spare bedroom in boxes since just after my birthday.. in March 😱

DS just started summer school, yesterday. He has been out of school since the end of May. He will not be going in today though as he's not feeling well. He's not even doing cross country, which is what he's been doing every day this summer. Of course he didn't tell me before I'd been up for a while (he had to be there at 7am) and after my 1st cup of coffee so I didn't get to sleep in this morning 😔 oh well.

So I'm drinking my 2nd cup of coffee right now, just after 7am. Maybe I'll actually get a lot done today 🤷‍♀️ although DD will be over at some point for me to remove (try anyway) her acrylic nails.

HillsBesideTheSea · 21/06/2022 14:11

What i do varies from year to year. This year I sat on a hill and watched both sunset and sunrise. It was pretty, calming and a nice way to celebrate. There was the usual special food and drink and clothes/hair.

Should i feel inclined there is a bonfire moot, midnight markets, and many other events that could be attended should one be inclined. But they can be loud and very people heavy, so it really depends on what suits you. Some people just like to watch the sunrise at Stone Henge which has been streamed on FB some years.

But for me, my celebrations always involve sundown, sun up; food and drink; and company of my choosing should i choose.

I am feeling a lot worse for wear this morning which is to be expected after multiple days of not enough sleep. I should really get moving though as there are things to be done and i should probably eat.

BloomingHazel · 21/06/2022 14:18

hills that sounds like a perfect celebration! I'm not sure I could stay up that long, but in the right company it's possible, maybe.

HillsBesideTheSea · 21/06/2022 15:34

Hazel i have friends who prefer to celebrate by getting up at 3am, some go for a swim in the sea, others hike a hill to watch the sunrise. there are many ways to celebrate a solstice should one choose, no right or wrong way. Which means it is very fluid in nature for how, when and if it is celebrated. It is the same with the winter solstice, but that is very different in nature - still good food, drink, company etc. I like a good wood fire/bonfire for the winter solstice.

Good luck with the wardrobe building Hazel,

that podcast sounds interesting

the sunburn is almost healed, but needs keeping moisturised to ensure it continues that way.

Apparently i have put important paperwork in a safe place. Arses.

BloomingHazel · 21/06/2022 17:30

Oh no, the dreaded safe place! I hope you find the papers you need hills

Been productive so far!
Ta Das:
☕️ cooked DH eggs for the week
☕️ put away clean clothes (DH & mine)
☕️ stripped our bed, including mattress & pillow protectors
☕️ washed protectors with white load (should be done in the dryer)
☕️ washed sheets (need to go into the dryer)
☕️ vacuumed master bedroom (walls and ceilings too, since we have a ceiling fan and dust goes everywhere!
☕️ vacuumed the rest of the main floor (hallway, spare bedroom, both bathrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen and entryway), other than DS old room. He still has stuff everywhere so can't vacuum in there until he's moved his stuff
☕️ dusted/ cleaned with method cleaning spray, both bedside tables in the master bedroom

I'm about to wash our big comforter (quilt, but no removable cover unfortunately. It'll take a while to get that washed and dried, then I can wash the towels.
It's 10:30am, so feel like I have achieved a lot! I should be back soon with more ta das

BloomingHazel · 21/06/2022 18:54

Ta Das:
☕️ bleached both bathrooms
☕️ mattress/ pillow protectors and sheets back on our bed
☕️ comforter in the dryer now with tennis balls
☕️ floors mopped
☕️ washing machine cleaner in and turned on

BloomingHazel · 22/06/2022 05:41

The final ta das:
💤 cleaned mirrors
💤 cleaned windows on front door, living room and side door
💤 quick diary in living room
💤 moved remaining items from DS room, he helped
💤 vacuumed his old room
💤 moved boxes with new closet into DS old bedroom
💤 washed towels
💤 rotated DW
💤 sat on the couch, watched Dead Files for 2 hours
💤 cooked dinner using up some leftover food
💤 helped DH start building closet, we just need to add the rods, build 3 drawers and put the shelves up

I started my day just before 8am, got to sit on the couch at 4pm, stopping for lunch. I actually felt like it was spread over 2 days, but it wasn't. My day was moving slowly, which was great!

Back to work tomorrow for the rest of the week, so minimal flying from me until the weekend.
🍒👋 to everyone

ExtremelyDedicated · 22/06/2022 07:23

Morning all, apologies for absence yesterday, I got up a bit late (I’m not a solstice early-riser!). In a bit of a rush now, I will try and catch up in my break at work.

Hazel you did so much yesterday! I’m amazed.

Hope you found the paperwork Hills. You’re celebrations sound lovely. We are very lucky in that we get gorgeous sunset views from our bedroom (and also lovely sunrises if you strain your neck a bit from the landing). I’ve seen both the last few nights, but not intentionally, all down to MiniUp. I do find them very calming.

Fingers crossed the car issues are not as expensive as they sound Willow. Hope you feel better soon and manage to get the writing done.

👋 ED

Depending on who you believe on Google muchly is indeed a word I have discovered, albeit an obsolete one according to some sources. Someone needs to tell autocorrect.

YesTaDas:
☀️cleaned boudoir mirror and window
☀️dusted dressing table and removed hotspot from it so it looks all nice again
☀️wiped down wooden headboard and window sill
☀️de-cobwebbed boudoir
☀️Cleaned MiniUp’s window
☀️found a home for some of the handed down teddies and a basket for her books
☀️winter tyres swapped

TaDas:
☀️stripped and washed our bedding which is about to go out on the line

I think I’m heading out for lunch with DM today, and have nothing that urgently needs done other than sorting a birthday card and putting a clean set of bedding on, so a relaxing day is planned here 😊

ExtremelyDedicated · 22/06/2022 21:21

Ta muchly is a reasonably well-known expression I think?

I am SO tired. Not been all that busy at work so it can’t be that, but it was so warm today, we have aircon but sometimes you don’t realise how warm it’s getting till you are more or less asleep at your desk and then remember to switch it on. Anyway, we had a good laugh about something this afternoon, a proper weeping with uncontrollable laughter sort of thing, which was a great tonic.

The house is ticking over, I haven’t done much mission work or decluttering this week, but past decluttering has paid off and it just seems to be easier to keep on top of the day to day stuff now, laundry etc.

Hills has messaged me to say something has come up which is going to keep her busy for a while, so what with that and the uselessness of new-look MN she may not be posting for a bit.

Reporting in to say husband is recovering from Covid. It's a bit of a pain because he had been a bit depressed and had started exercise which had really helped his mood. He's a bit foggy ATM so hopefully when he recovers he can get back to mood enhancing exercise. I'm keeping an eye on him and if he doesn't improve he said he'll go to the doctor.

But overall things are getting better chezBeanAnTae. I'm very busy at work with a project and that's eating into a lot of time but the laundry is under control!

BeanAnTae · 22/06/2022 22:03

Fair enough Hills! I'd managed to lock myself out of MN for a while. Life has too many passwords these days...

CoffeeAndTV1 · 23/06/2022 11:49

Hello! I'm going to hop aboard if that's OK. Going to sign up to the Fly Lady emails etc as well.

Yesterday, I changed all the bedding and I've washed the old sheets today. Currently drying, but it's started raining today, so doing it indoors.

Also have a vague plan for dinner, which is better than usual for me 😁

ExtremelyDedicated · 23/06/2022 12:19

Erm, afternoon all Blush,

With apologies for lateness again, here is the link to today’s Flight Plan

flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60 today we are meant to be sorting out the right hand side of our bed. Yesterday was the left hand side but I forgot to post I think.

It is also errand day.

@CoffeeAndTV1 welcome on board, have you tried Flylady before? I think you get quite a lot of emails, I unsubscribed from mine in the end. However they are useful while you get to grips with the system. I am also a bit of a slacker in the meal planning department but I have taken delivery of my first ever Gousto box this week in an effort to remedy the situation.

@BeanAnTae glad DH is improving and that the laundry is under control.

I’m at home today, planning to do a bit of work this afternoon, have had a nice walk at a local lavender farm with DD this morning (she has just finished GCSEs) and have also cleared out my handbag and mopped the kitchen floor.

OP posts:
CoffeeAndTV1 · 23/06/2022 12:21

Hi ED!

I tried it once before...definitely remember shining my sink, which I would never do unprompted 😁. OK, I'll hold off on the emails. I'll just read the website. Thanks for the warning! Do not need any more emails cluttering up my inbox tbh

ExtremelyDedicated · 23/06/2022 12:23

Quite! I struggle with my inbox. There is a page on the website called Getting Started which does what it says on the can so to speak.

DitzyBluebells · 23/06/2022 13:54

That's a shame about the aircon Willow hope the garage can fix it

Hills if you're reading hope its good-busy not stressed-busy

Hope you and DM enjoyed lunch Up

Welcome to the thread Coffee. Nothing quite like clean sheets for making you feel better about life

I totally love lavender ED

DitzyBluebells · 23/06/2022 13:55

Sorry Bean I forgot you! I'm glad things are improving for you and I wish your DH a speedy recovery

Dancingtomusic · 23/06/2022 20:38

Hi ditzy👋

Ed-.I love lavender aswell. Ditzy i think we should plant it in the naughty corner.

Coffee - welcome!

Hills hope you.are ok

ExtremelyDedicated · 24/06/2022 09:01

Morning all,

Well, yesterday didn’t go quite to plan, I went to the gym in the afternoon and managed to pull a muscle in my back, so I am going to have to take it easy for a couple of days (this happens to me every couple of years or so, it's nothing serious, just annoying). I still managed to do a couple of hours work, the supermarket shop and cook dinner, it’s good for it if I keep moving but gently. Anyway, I have cancelled yoga and PT session for today so that frees up some time.

To do:
Laundry x at least 1 (depends on weather)
Declutter bedside table and dressing table in nod to Fly Zones
Paperwork
Fetch DS from school
Sort out wool for crochet project
Book commonwealth games tickets if poss.

Today is our last day in the master bedroom, Flylady’s Flight Plan is here

www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60 - today we are sorting the end-of-the-bed zone - I need to put away some winter clothes that are stacked up at the end of ours but probably shouldn’t risk my back by lifting the divan-top today

For those getting used to the system the Launchpad is also useful

www.flylady.net/c/lp.php as it has links to all the different elements of the system
