Fledglings Flying into Jubilee June

ExtremelyDedicated · 31/05/2022 22:40

Hello everyone, and welcome to the June Flylady thread.

We welcome newbies and returnees - if you are curious about the system feel free to ask questions or lurk! We do follow it, erm, loosely to say the least. So there is a lot of chat about random life stuff as well as housework, decluttering and organising.

A key element of flylady is not being a perfectionist. Most of us here are not naturals at housekeeping etc, so please don’t feel we are some intimidating group who demand perfectly shined sinks. We are human. We fall off the wagon. We commiserate and help each other climb back on, and we stock the virtual naughty corner with snacks and blankets for the days when adulting is just too hard.

So, the system:
🔹Some baby steps which are designed to help you build up a routine.
🔹Daily missions to help with sprucing up particular areas in the zones, for example the first zone of the month is the entry/porch and dining room if you have one.

🔹Try and do 15 minutes decluttering a day. It didn’t get cluttered in a week so it will take a lot longer to clear it!

🔹Daily focuses to help shape the week.
🔹Here on the thread many of us post to do lists, but also “ta da” lists of things we’ve achieved that day.
🔹We also recommend the Power of Three technique - if you’re overwhelmed with too much to do, just pick three things and don’t think about the rest.

Anyway, I will post some links each day (hopefully) but whether you follow the system or not - many of us just take the bits we like or build our own flylady style system to suit our own lives - do join in if you want a place to chat about keeping a house and family running!

Massive congratulations on the new jobs Dancing and Merry! Clever fledglings 😊

Hope DS has a lovely birthday Willow.

Hope the sickness passes soon Perry.

MiniUp is much better thanks Mc. Much more like her usual smiley self.

Good to have you back Ditzy.

The heat has not been conducive to much flying, however I’ve kept on top of laundry and dishes. I got DD1 to go through a box of random toys with me yesterday and she let go of over half (it was all cheap plastic crap from the market, party bags, prizes from the funfair etc.) She stayed at her DGM’s last night and I’ve piled aaaalll of her teddies up on her bedroom floor Marie Kondo style to see if she’ll part with some of those too. She has so many thanks to her and her DGM’s charity shop habit, and most just sit on her top bunk bed and are never looked at.

Not as hot here today. I’ve had a walk with MiniUp and it was even a little bit chilly on the sea front. I have no other plans apart from the teddy decluttering today. Possibly some gardening probably not. Enjoy your Saturdays everyone 👋

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 18/06/2022 10:54

Hello again :) still feeling a bit blah but mentally I feel so much better after my little trip away, not just for the alone time but generally in terms of confidence etc because work was great.

Must crack on with stuff now really but I’m going to try and do what I can while lying down 🤣

po3.2
❗️online study for a bit
❗️start filling in one to one form (not due for ages but wanted to record this week’s achievements)
❗️draft something for work

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/06/2022 12:54

I was supposed to be up this morning for a pilates class this morning. But i spent yesterday on the hill and walked nearly 30,000 steps and the new sunscreen testing was a fail. So i slept through the pilates class, and am sore and reluctant to get up and do. But I need to.

Hope all those who are suffering from the heat can find relief - don't forget to keep your electrolytes and trace minerals up and hydrate well.

Congratulations to Dancing and Merry on the new jobs.

BloomingHazel · 18/06/2022 14:53

Up well done to DD for letting go of over half her cheap crap toys! 🤞it'll be the same for her stuffed animals
hills 30,000 steps! 😱 I'm assuming you also have sunburn since the sunscreen failed? Do you have any aloe vera?

For those of you suffering in the heat, if you find you really need relief fast, make a flannel wet with cold water and place on the back of your neck. You probably already know this, but I didn't until I moved here. It really does help to cool you down. You don't have to have it on for long, although it depends on how hot you are.

Perry Hopefully your body will catch up and also feel well rested soon
merry congratulations on your new job 🎉
ditzy willingness to let go of stuff is definitely a road block to getting rid of stuff. I have found that once I start getting rid of stuff (starting with easy things to get rid of) I'm motivated to get rid of more as I see more space.
willow happy birthday to DS 🥳
Bean good to hear that DH is recovering from Covid
zoo I hope your meds got all figured out so you don't have to keep walking back and forth

I slept so good last night, really needed it. 10:15pm-7am! I would have slept in longer but I have to work today at my 2nd job. I'm going to tell them I don't want to be put on the schedule until September. That may mean having to reapply at that time, but I'm okay with that. I want my summer free so we can go camping anytime or go out on day trips, without me having to worry about if I'm working or not. I work there for the discount to shop there, not because I make a little bit of money (it does help some, but not enough to really make much of a difference as I usually would spend more than I make there 😳)

Anyway, best get moving to take a shower and get ready. I was so tired last night I didn't pull out my clothes for today! I hope to be back on here later, after work
🍒👋 to everyone

Dancingtomusic · 19/06/2022 01:24

Hazel- thanks hazel! Its good you have decided to take a break from the 2nd job so you can have the summer free for camping and family things. It sounds like a good idea!

Hills- thank you. Did you try the new mineral sunscreens? I wondered how they would perform? I am a factor 50 girl that leaves the house with a thick layer of sun screen it. (No, I dont look attractive - 🤣- I dont care if I look like idiot either- currently using Boots stuff- think its good. )

Ed- thank you. Its lovely to hear from you whenever you have time to post. I love hearing how things are going- especially your allotment and how you organise your life.

Merry- Congratulations on your new job! Thats great news that in the future it can lead to a permanant role.

Up- thank you. Awww, your dd1 is brilliant for letting go of the plastic toys!

Wellies- great you found your sunglasses.
Thank you. The sun this week was too much for me. I couldnt function some days.

Ditzy- thanks DItzy! Did you write about decluttering? I am currently trying to do the same.

Bean- thanks. Good to read your dh is recovering from Covid. It does hit some people very hard. Hope he is doing well.

Perry- weldone for doing soo much stuff. Travelling alone and taking time out for yourself, with all the great workstuff you have been doing.

My job is tempory for a year- which i dont mind as I dont know if I physically can manage a full time job - going to try. It starts in September and currently I am volunteering 2 full days a week to try and get used to being in a school again.
Dh is slightly moaning that we will lose £100 from UC if I work.
I told him that I am living in my overdraft now so 'Any' money coming in will be a 'bonus' for me! Which I will spend on the food shopping or clothes for the kids.

Dancingtomusic · 19/06/2022 01:40

I have been tackling small amounts of decluttering. I have to get a handle of the house if I can to take this job.

Dining room floor of doom- i went 5 bags and decluttered and recycled all kids drawings and school paperwork.

Now have -
1.5 bags of recycling of paper/card.
1 bag of recycling of fabric.
1 very full bag of dd clothes that are too small. Plus I managed to let go of 6 dressing up outfits that dd never wears and are too small.
Its a start to letting as much go as I can.
Also decided to sell some of the larger wooden toys. It doesnt sound much but taken alot of my Adhd mind - to get to the point I can 'see' what to do with the stuff junk.

I would like to have a more streamlined house. I will keep posting to keep a track of progress. I also need to get back to meal planning and cooking- we have been relying on takeaways and oven food too much.

🍒👋 everyone.

DitzyBluebells · 19/06/2022 02:50

Wow that's good Dancing 5 bags! I can only dream of decluttering 5 bags. I keep looking at things thinking no I want to keep that, and that, and that... I've managed to get rid of quite a few things while I've been away from Mumsnet though.

Thanks for the wet flannel tip Hazel I've not heard that one before. I know the one about running your wrists under the cold tap, I suppose it's a similar thing. Agree regards to space from decluttering. Every time a new patch appears I excitedly plan how I'll fill it (with things from some other overcrowded area). My home is gradually getting less cluttered.

Hope you're ok from your sunscreen fail Hills

Thanks Up . Teddies are so hard to get rid of but a bed just for teddies is a bit excessive :D

Digital decluttering today. Deleting a few accounts here and there which I never use any more. Very easy to sign up for things not so easy to find out how to close account. Then snuggling up on the sofa to watch Lilo and Stitch.

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/06/2022 08:02

Morning.

A quick fly by

Dancing - it was a mineral style sunscreen, not a commercial one though. And not sure that 10hrs on a hill in the mid day sun was really a fair test. I suspect i would have burnt even with factor 50 in that duration.

Hazel no aloe here, i have a burn's unit recommended protocol after last years burn disaster. Not as bad as last year, but complicated by the fact that i have damaged the shoulder so it is hard to tell whether the pain is from the burn or the damage.

I am adventuring again today. But had stuff to do before i disappear off. And yes today's adventure is inside so not a burn risk. I swear i am going to get some UV protection t-shirts this year, and not just put it on the to do list like the last 3 years. Hmm

ta da
empty dishwasher
reload and run dishwasher
1st load through the washing machine
2nd load on to run
tickets sorted for the adventure part 1.
timings sorted for part 2.
stuff required for the adventure sorted
collect the rubbish and recycling left lying about and dispose of correctly words will be had tomo
treat the burn
wash the slow cooker that was soaking over night
wash hair in the kitchen sink - because the available bathroom sink is barely large enough to wash your hands in Hmm
clean sink down so food ready again
put grill pans and trays in to soak - pretty stuck on so being there today will probably do it a favour.
fold laundry

Right i had better get a wriggle on as i have an hour and half drive this morning. But first a 2nd coffee would seem adviseable.

DitzyBluebells · 19/06/2022 11:30

Enjoy your day Hills.

Nothing much going on here except the morning routine. Planning to crack on with some reading of the massive book pile I'm slowly working my way through. Not finding it as hard to declutter some of them after reading as I thought I would, so that part is going ok. Then later a trip out to the park.

BloomingHazel · 19/06/2022 17:48

dancing I talked to my manager yesterday, she was understanding about me taking some time off. She told me a way I can still be on the payroll, by just going in every 2 weeks and clocking in for 10 minutes while I accept my time card punches. That's a relief. She said just to let her know when she can schedule me again <phew>
Ignore your DH moans and groans, it's good for you to be out there making your own money! How is he okay with you living in your overdraft!? That's not okay.
That's really good decluttering you've been doing!

hills I'm glad you have a plan to tackle your burn. I vaguely remember you having a bad burn last year. 10 hours on a hill would put any sunscreen to work, did you not take any with you to reapply? You have a long ta da list, was that all done this morning? 😱

Ditzy reading to declutter books sounds productive and a trip out to the park sounds like a good plan.

BloomingHazel · 19/06/2022 17:54

Mumsnet is not doing well for me today, ads are making my keyboard disappear, which makes me nervous! I'm using Chrome on my phone.

Anyway, since today is Father's day there's not much for us to do today. We may go to the store to find him some new boxers, but we also need to get something figured out for FIL. DH doesn't plan for anyone else's gifts but for me usually, so we had nothing to give him last night when they came over.
Yesterday we bought a new mattress for our bed in the camper, as well as one for DS. We moved him downstairs last night, so maybe we'll turn his old bedroom into our closet, which was the plan anyway. 🤔 maybe do that today 🤷‍♀️

Dancingtomusic · 19/06/2022 22:58

Hazel- thats brilliant that work will keep you on the payroll like that! They really must want to keep you! Yay!

Since the new update- the keyboard is very slow typing messages. Sometimes typing the wrong letters. It makes it cumbersome to type quick messages and fly ! 🤷‍♀️

Today was Fathers day and juggling a birthday party invite for dd!
Wrapped presents and card.
Mingled with other mums I barely knew - everyone was friendly, and ran around helping out at the party.
When over to my dads house afterwards.
Exhusted and broken now. Had enough of socialising and feeling a humming of achey joints.
Cant sleep so listening to the radio on low. Lovely songs on.

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/06/2022 03:34

Yep that was all before i left the house yesterday. Just getting home too.
been an interesting old day. And the sunset is pretty.

SOmetime tells me that tonight's solstice celebrations are going to hurt more than they should after today's loooooong ass day and lack of sleep availability.

Hope all the fledglings are soundly and restfully sleeping at this time.
leave me sleeping in the naughty corner till noon, then poke me as i have a lot to do tomo.

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/06/2022 03:35

Sorry make that sunRISE is pretty.

Clearly i am ready for sleep!

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/06/2022 08:23

<tucks blanket around *hills>
<Contemplates leaving vat coffee by her side for when wakes up>
Merry congratulations
Hazel good to hear you having a bit of a break <waves everyone else>
This format sucks.i get ads knackering up posts left ,right and centre!
Busy weekend, place still a tipmondays home bleurgh needs to be epic make it less bear pit.
Dd2just left for school, lil zoo refuse get up say feels I'll.ds already on summer break,so time make a start!
Cats are fed n watered, first lol in drier
Now for the mess...

ExtremelyDedicated · 20/06/2022 09:11

Morning all, yes to the slow keyboard response when typing and adverts jumping about, it is infuriating.

Today we are in Zone $, The Master Bedroom and our mission is to get rid of anything that is under your bed. I need to get a stick and poke around under our divan as small items do get kicked under there. DHcleared the floor and hoovered yesterday so some Flying was done.

Flight Plan is here www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

willow DS was extremely excited for his VR headset, and still is.
zoo I've got to do home bleugh today as well, I've been slacking lately, since DS does the majority as his chores. He does a good job, but I really need to do a deep clean throughout.

I am halfway through my 4 day weekend! I've done f-all for the past 2 days (although I did work on Saturday). So time to make up for it.

To do:
😱 LOLs (I was upset that yesterday morning when I woke up, the laundry I washed in my dream wasn't done! 😅)
😱 bleach both bathrooms
😱 handwash dishes
😱 rotate DW
😱 dust
😱 vacuum
😱 mop floors
😱 move boxes with closet pieces into DS'S old bedroom (we did NOT do that yesterday as I'd hoped)

I'm sure there's more. I doubt I'll get this all done today, I do have tomorrow as well though.
It's just gone 9:30am. Hopefully I'll be back soon with some ta das!

DitzyBluebells · 20/06/2022 16:50

Oh my lord! I did laugh at that ED. Getting rid of anything under the bed! Noooo! That shite lives there, permanently, until such time as it's needed. I wonder what it's like to have an empty under-the-bed?? Clean, that's the answer isn't it? It's clean.

Toasters have crumb trays Willow? I never knew this. I've been occasionally giving it a shake upside down over the bin!

Glad you've got the thing with your payroll sorted out Hazel

Good luck clearing the mess Zoo

That's a long day Hills, enjoy your nap.

Everyone with problem ads, have you disabled everything on your phone? If you're on Android go searching for MSA (MRA? Can't remember) in aps/settings/menu and turn the darn thing off. I've also found turning off all ad personalisation stuff helps too, including in your Google account. Once you've done that clear cookies/cache/history (which is sometimes all under "data") to get rid of what's already there. Everyone will prompt you to allow cookies when you log back in. Nobody gets to leave cookies here except the ones they won't let you turn off. You can periodically check in "all sites" under "site settings" in Chrome's browser menu (the three dots in the top corner) to see which sneaky bastards have left cookies just because you clicked on their website once by mistake.

Ta-da's:

🌳 Morning routine
🌳 Home blessings
🌳 Weekly planner filled in
🌳 Downstairs windows cleaned
🌳 Pest sprayed the bathroom floor edges because I saw a creepy crawly last night and I doubt it'll be the only one
🌳 Bag of too-small clothes to clothing bank
🌳 Nails painted

ExtremelyDedicated · 20/06/2022 18:55

I clear my cookies every few weeks but am not totally strict about not allowing them, some are useful. I'm only having occasional problems with my phone (iphone) but it seems its a lot worse for some. I don't use google for searching and do tell all apps that I install not to track me, it's hard keeping on top of it all.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 20/06/2022 20:45

MN still being annoying here too.
Ouch hills hope you heal up quickly
Well done on decluttering dancing

I've had a very lazy afternoon, having felt unwell again yesterday I was struggling this morning but pushed through a work event (which went better than expected) and then crashed. Really need to get on with uni stuff. At least tomorrow is much quieter than Tuesdays usually are!

BloomingHazel · 20/06/2022 23:47

Just stopping by with some ta das:
🦥 LOLs x3
🦥 few minutes in hotspots
🦥 aired out the house
🦥 video chat with mum
🦥 ate lunch with DH
🦥 went over to ILs with DC to fill our charms with DH grandma's ashes. I knew it wouldn't hold much, but much, much less than I imagined!

I still need to wash the towels and clean the bathrooms. I'm currently looking for some motivation, if anyone finds any, please throw some my way!

HillsBesideTheSea · 21/06/2022 03:36

Good morning Beautiful people.

Solstice celebrations are just winding down. And like the old lady i am feeling I am in the process of pain killers and hot water bottles. It was a gentle celebration this year. Which was probably needed.

Hope you all have wonderful and gentle days today.

BloomingHazel · 21/06/2022 05:54

hills I never have been to any solstice celebrations. Is there anything in particular you do? Sorry if that sounds like a stupid question to you!

So I got a little bit of motivation, but not much. I did the handwash dishes and rotated the DW while DS and DH were moving the dresser downstairs, well, they moved it to the stairs, I had to help DH carry it downstairs to DS new bedroom. I also wiped down the countertops and stove top. There's so much more I need to do tomorrow 😩
I did manage to watch a few of my shows though 😅

Upsadiddles · 21/06/2022 10:05

I’m pleased to say the teddy decluttering was a success. She happily packed around a third off to the charity shop, and another third were kindly donated to her baby sister (will still need to find somewhere for them to go but it’s a step in the right direction!). Ditzy the bunk beds were bought by MIL and one of the reasons was it was somewhere to keep all of her teddies Grin. I struggled not to suggest that she just stop buying them.

Yesterday I managed to organise the shoes/handbags/DH’s running gear into some nice boxes and baskets, so that the cluttered alcove where it was all dumped looks a bit better and we can find what we need. It still looks a bit rubbish u til we get some wardrobes built but it’s progress. I’ve also washed all the next size clothes for DD2 (6-9 months 😭), put them in her drawers ready to go, and worked out what I need to buy (not much 🙌🏻)

Today I have:
✅convinced DD1 to do today’s reading and maths before school as she’s going to her DGM’s for tea, and left for school a little early so we had a more chilled walk.
✅ got some cash out to pay for my tyre swap and for a birthday card (but just realised I didn’t buy a birthday card 🙈)
✅ stuck an LOL on including DD1’s bedding
✅s&s, DW emptied etc.

Hills I hope you enjoyed your celebrations and the sun burn is causing you too much pain today.

Glad the event went well Perry!

Ooh a lovely new closet Hazel. I’m much my jealous.

Dancing that’s amazing decluttering progress.

For anyone interested, I’ve found a new YouTube channel that I quite like. It’s called “but first, coffee” and she does a 2 hour house reset (sort of like flyladys home bleurgh but a bit more realistic). She also talks about decluttering, organising, buying less crap etc.
