Fledglings Flying into Jubilee June

Hello everyone, and welcome to the June Flylady thread.

We welcome newbies and returnees - if you are curious about the system feel free to ask questions or lurk! We do follow it, erm, loosely to say the least. So there is a lot of chat about random life stuff as well as housework, decluttering and organising.

A key element of flylady is not being a perfectionist. Most of us here are not naturals at housekeeping etc, so please don’t feel we are some intimidating group who demand perfectly shined sinks. We are human. We fall off the wagon. We commiserate and help each other climb back on, and we stock the virtual naughty corner with snacks and blankets for the days when adulting is just too hard.

So, the system:
🔹Some baby steps which are designed to help you build up a routine.
🔹Daily missions to help with sprucing up particular areas in the zones, for example the first zone of the month is the entry/porch and dining room if you have one.

🔹Try and do 15 minutes decluttering a day. It didn’t get cluttered in a week so it will take a lot longer to clear it!

🔹Daily focuses to help shape the week.
🔹Here on the thread many of us post to do lists, but also “ta da” lists of things we’ve achieved that day.
🔹We also recommend the Power of Three technique - if you’re overwhelmed with too much to do, just pick three things and don’t think about the rest.

Anyway, I will post some links each day (hopefully) but whether you follow the system or not - many of us just take the bits we like or build our own flylady style system to suit our own lives - do join in if you want a place to chat about keeping a house and family running!

Afternoon all,

Sorry, AWOL again this morning, did some exercise instead of going on MN.

I did scrub my shower wall yesterday as instructed by Flylady though so I am not a complete absentee from the process.

flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Today’s Flightplan link above.

Our mission is to clean the toilet roll and towel holders, then chuck out 10 things from the garage. I chucked out about 10 things from my shed last Friday on my now-weekly tip run, so that’s a good start. Looking at the weather forecast I think I will give the tip a miss this Friday though.

Perry I'm so glad restarting your phone worked!
hills that's a massive list

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/06/2022 11:31

It is indeed hazel and i actually have most of it still to do today.

I chose to run over to the big city 1 over to try to acquire shorts. Its a fail and i have to return what was purchased as it doesn't fit. But did get full strength clove oil which works better than tooth ache strength clove oil when it comes to kindly putting fish down which have age related neurological issues and are suffering a long drawn out demise. *Note: professional advice was take to ensure best for fish welfare was the approach and given the choice of a hammer or some drops of clove oil, the hammer just seems so violent. Poor fish had as gentle as possible demise Sad and is no longer spinning in circles, not eating and no longer periodically playing dead. poor thing really was suffering. SadSad things they never tell you when you get your first fish tank.

To do
washing into machine
food shop away
finish washing up awkward bits
hoover lounge
make pie
take a walk
do physio exercises
pick up some bits from the big tesco and stop for fish tank water
pay credit card bill
put in prescription request
deal with the fridge of doom
sort out getting the potato pots washed up - rubber gloves so i can do this safely is on the tesco list!
Pick up stitches on a craft project so it can get finished
put a do whilst watching lectures project on the needles.
try to find solutions to the bastarding fox issue in the garden. bloody vermin
consider reading a book rather than getting sucked into drama series.

Load and run dw
wipe down benches

I should probably get going. I crash hard last night after the strong strong pain killers kicked in. And not long been up. So much for resetting my system so i can be up in the mornings. Hmm

Upsadiddles · 16/06/2022 12:20

Ooh we chucked about 10 000 things from the garage recently so I think I’m off the hook there. I do need to de-pink the shower walls as I didn’t do it yesterday and a wipe of the toilet roll holder probably wouldn’t go amiss. It’s gorgeous here today. I’ve done 2 LOLs and got them dried on the line. Booked someone to swap the winter tyres off the car (better late than never eh). I’ve emptied the DW and had a bit of a tidy round, but otherwise I’ve had a leisurely walk with MiniUp and a cuppa in the garden. I need to check the cupboards/fridge/freezer, do a shopping list and head to the supermarket when DH is home. Now though I’m going to find myself some food.

Hope DH enjoys the VR Hazel, it sounds well deserved.

Hurrah for negative Hills.

Is it tomorrow you head off Perry? I’m lost in what month it is never mind day!

Upsadiddles · 16/06/2022 12:22

Oh I missed your post Hills. Poor little fishy. I’m sure you gave it a lovely life and clove oil definitely sounds kinder.

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 16/06/2022 12:58

Clove oil definitely kinder, Hills!
I am counting my music room decluttering yesterday as more than ten things, so that will do. The garage is DH's domain (not as sexist as it sounds, he uses it to pot plants etc. That is Not My Thing).

It's an absolute stinker here today and we are chasing the sun around the house, opening and closing windows and curtains with alarming regularity. We have all the fans in the house on - unfashionable central light fans, but a godsend in this weather! - and I have one wash on the line. DS3 has just done tennis in blinding heat and may need to be signed out of Computer Science at 2pm if he doesn't improve by then 🥵. I am also not on the train to Durham, as DD was not well enough to go, and I appear to have lost my normal glasses in my sunglasses case between the tennis club and here.

Think I will sack it all off and go for a lie down in the shade!

Dancingtomusic · 16/06/2022 15:23

Willow-i am also hiding in the shade - opening and closing blinds to keep the house cool.
Hope you Ds is ok after tennis in the sun!

Up- hope mini up is ok now xx

Hills- awww poor fish- awww you did it kindly. Yes it definately things people dont say about fish tanks.
Hazel- hope you are ok.
Perry- good idea to stay over.
Zoo- hope you arent doing too much in this heat.

I may possibly melt tomo.
Did manage to get the job I was encouraged to go for. Have been volunteering this week for 2.5days now and am exhusted. Decluttering this house has become even more important now. 🤦‍♀️

Tadas
-folded 5 loads of laundry

  • piled up in order
-put 1 set away.

To do
-pick up kids from football club

Cheery waves to everyone.

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 16/06/2022 17:44

You got the job, Dancing? Yippee! 🥳🥳🥳🏆🎖

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 16/06/2022 18:38

Fab news dancing well done!!! 🤩💐

Yep up conference was today, having not worked full time since I first got ill with ME/fibro in 2012 it was a bit of a shock to the system working 7.30-4.15 today 😁 but it was a brilliant event where we engaged with lots of people we really need to work with, lots of contacts made so we can get into schools and help parents feel more empowered and less isolated 💜

Currently relaxing in my room, will take a book to the pub when I get dinner later.

BloomingHazel · 16/06/2022 19:55

dancing I'm doing well, just been very busy! Congratulations on getting the job! 🎉
Perry it sounds like you really need the relaxation after that long day you had, enjoy!
hills poor fish, you did the right thing though

Dancingtomusic · 16/06/2022 21:02

Willow, Perry and Hazel - thanks yes I got the job :-) only went for it as the Headteacher asked me to and it was so kind of her to ask me.
Its full time so I am abit worried how I will cope.

Perry- weldone on the conference, the networking sounds brilliant. I think its great job you are doing. Its a service that is very needed.

🍒👋

DitzyBluebells · 16/06/2022 22:58

Just caught up on the whole thread. Thanks for continuing it ED and I like your new name.

Hazel sorry about your DH nan passing.

RIP Hill's fish

Loved those dresses you made Willow

Congratulations on the new job Dancing

Hope everyone who is unwell feels better soon. 🍒👋 to the lurkers.

I've been decluttering, sitting in the sun and reading mostly, when not doing life's essentials. Whoever asked if I could get rid of 50% of my things - definitely! But I don't want to, that's the problem. Although it would make cleaning easier. I need to get better at decluttering things that don't work for me or things I have a better version of. Decluttering is making me think twice about buying stuff, anyway.

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/06/2022 05:45

hills RIP fishy

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 17/06/2022 06:34

<dives in>

Morning all. I had a lovely quiet evening reading on the beach, slept a bit better too but had to be awake earlier today though because I had a Calendar Mishap and have to get to a school for a parent meeting. Train at 7.41.

po3.1
❗️Meds and breakfast (they left a little basket in my room!)
❗️Pack suitcase/bag making sure I have what I need accessible in the bag
❗️Shower, dressed and go by 7.15 latest

BeanAnTae · 17/06/2022 07:23

I misread that as you slept in the beach Perry 😬 glad you didn't!

BeanAnTae · 17/06/2022 07:24

Husband recovering nicely from Covid. Keeping on top of things with the house, only just. Busy day with work today!

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 17/06/2022 11:14

Ditzy! Great to see you again, glad things have been going smoothly.
Bean glad the spouse is recovering from Covid.
Perry an evening reading on the beach undisturbed until the light goes sounds heavenly.
Zoo hope no-one overheats today.
Dancing I have absolutely no doubt that you can make a full time job work (even if DH doesn't like it because he has to do more)
Hazel good luck with life being busy

The temperature here is insane (predicted 31 degrees this afternoon) and my brain stops working at 22 degrees, so the last couple of days have been a bit trying. However, we have muddled through, DS1 and his GF arrived safely (had to collect them from a different station after the signals failed due to heat) and the GF has now gone off to London to go back home tonight and DS1 will following tomorrow after DS3's Actual Birthday. My glasses turned up, wedged right under the passenger seat of the car.

ExtremelyDedicated · 17/06/2022 12:19

Afternoon all, sorry I have abandoned the thread a bit this week, I am lurking even when I’m not posting.

Bit of a half-hearted session of hotspotting all over the place this morning, after Sainsburys shopping and 15 mins at the allotment (was enough in this heat).

Dancing brilliant news on the job, well done! Do you start this term or is it September?

Ditzy - welcome back! Glad to hear you’ve been making the most of the weather.

OP posts:
CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 17/06/2022 15:26

Hi ditzy good to see you! (I have been on previous threads but namechanged this month)

Am now home and trying to cool off 🥵 school visit today was brilliant, I then caught up with a colleague who is currently on leave so that was lovely - lunch overlooking the South Downs 🥰 absolutely shattered now!

merryhouse · 17/06/2022 15:26

<sidles in>

lo all. Have been avoiding the thread as I have Dun Nuffin (yes, I do know how accountability is supposed to work)

Great news re job dancing. Hugs and thoughts to those ill, bereaved or matrimonialling.

I have done a few things about PCC (the new churchwarden has worked out that - at least at the moment - a text will spur me into immediate action; which is a Lowering Reflection but at least suggests that someone is taking my suspicions of ADHD seriously)

I have also, quite coincidentally, cleaned the shower walls Grin including the bleach/cottonwool trick on the sealant so it looks So Much Better. Now we just need to work out how to fix the door seals so that they keep the water in and don't break or get filthy...

Had a Lovely Jubbly, mostly ringing and singing also involving food.

Willow - when are you in D? reading through I got the impression it was today but you don't appear to be away from home. Are you by any chance likely to be around on Thursday (23rd) afternoon?

ANYWAY

My Big News is

I HAVE GOT A JOB

It's temporary (for a year) but I think the chances are quite high of moving into a more permanent position afterwards.

Hours are such that various evenings will be awks, and every other Saturday; but never mind all that, I will be Getting Paid. (Just before we hit the UC savings threshold...)

H is looking dolefully at having to shop and menu plan Grin

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 17/06/2022 15:47

Oooh fantastic news merry well done!!!

DitzyBluebells · 17/06/2022 18:29

I remember you Perry, took me a few pages into the thread to work out who everyone was but I got there in the end.

Congratulations on the job Merry I hope you settle in well there.

ED well done for doing anything at the allotment in this heat.

Glad you found your glasses wllow.

I decided it was too hot to do anything useful so I've been junk journalling this afternoon.

BeanAnTae · 17/06/2022 19:11

Merry 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 well done!

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 17/06/2022 20:49

Congratulations merry! We were supposed to be in Durham yesterday and today, but sadly DD was too unwell (still bursting into tears at the drop of a hat, and napping 4 hrs a day as well as sleeping over night). The moment for Durham has, I fear, passed as next weeked is Nottingham and the Wednesday after Oxford!

It is still Scorchio here so I gave up trying to work at about 2.30pm and have been lying on the sofa ever since. Now in the garden with a ham sandwich and a very cold glass of Chablis, celebrating the Sheet Fridayness of the day.

Although I do still have to wrap birthday presents for DS3 who will be 12 (12!!) tomorrow. It was definitely not this hot when he was born.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 18/06/2022 09:22

Good morning <keels over from heat>

I was asleep by about 10pm last night! Woke just before 7. Still tired though so have thoroughly squandered the morning thus far. Feel a bit sick (due to weather I think) so going to take it easy but I do need to do work/study at some point.

po3.1
❗️Quick shower
❗️Do Cagletini’s hair
❗️Curl up on sofa and watch rest of Netflix documentary I watched while putting laundry away last night
