well...started coughing at work last night tested positive for Covid when I got home, 9yo has it too, managed to recycle some paper stuff but then my fingers started going numb so I laid down. 9yo fine

8stone13 · 25/01/2022 15:27

@seperatedmum Hope it's mild for you & your child 🤞🏻

More filing decluttering here today, & a bit of digital decluttering in the form of some unsubscribes. I hate how some of them are near impossible to get rid of. I've been arguing with Eventbrite over one for months. They are convinced I've stopped getting updates & when I forward on the ones I'm still regularly receiving on to them they just say they've no idea what's happening 😒

WildPoinsettia · 25/01/2022 18:22

@8stone13 Have you reported the emails as spam to your own email provider? I don't know if that might help.

8stone13 · 25/01/2022 18:36

@WildPoinsettia Oh no I hadn't thought to do that - good idea - thanks 🙂

Debsdonein · 25/01/2022 18:45

Thank you for all the advice and kick up the arse.

Today I cleaned out a load of stuff from my sons bedroom. Clothes he doesn't wear, toys that he is too old for. Bedding as he doesn't need 5 sets 🙈.
Yesterday I decluttered the bathroom. Why do we hang onto body creams, shampoos and fancy soaps that we will never use ? Towels that have seen better days have gone to a local hedgehog help group 🙄.

Today I sent off a pair of shoes that had sold on Vinted. I went through the drawers of a big chest in the sitting room - binned a huge amount of paper and photocopied orchestra parts....... We now have a drawer of envelopes, a drawer of paper and notebooks, a drawer of correspondence cards and headed notepaper and three empty drawers!! I also have a carrier bag of unused brand new stationery for the charity shop.

I plan on emptying the contents of a small desk into the empty drawers and then DH can put CDs in the pretty tiny and otherwise useless desk drawers. Still fuming that after I boxed them up he simply put the boxes in the nice empty space I'd just cleared under the piano.

Turtleoo · 25/01/2022 19:21

Not done much today but the charity bags were collected so that's a relief!

Scanned a few books with the Ziffit app and put aside the ones it would accept (don't have enough to post yet though). Also found some old insurance policy booklets on the bookcase so those have gone in the recycling.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 25/01/2022 19:47

So busy with work but I've sold 2 more items on Vinted and given away a book. I have a tin from the Christmas chocs I was going to throw away but actually I'm going to transfer some misc stationary into it so I can chuck the broken shoe box I'm currently using for that purpose.

It's worth trying Ziffit and webuybooks and seeing who gives you the best price :)

Recovering from covid here I tested positive last Monday. That was after a trip to IKEA where I only got a couple of bits that were on my list. Ds and dh tested positive end of last week so they are now both at home.

However on Monday I did manage to finish cleaning and sorting Ds room. Got a basket of stuff i need to still go through that I got from under his bed the other week.

Finally dropped of some of the bits to the charity shop need to get the rest in the car to go later this week. Ds room looks really good now you can see his floor hoping to get better with keeping on top of the housework this year.

pollyannaperspective · 25/01/2022 20:11

Hope those who are unwell have mild symptoms and recover swiftly.

Today's outs 10 opened (goodness knows how long ago) bottles and jars from the fridge and cleaned the shelf and door area. Also pruned more pensions paperwork - some to recycling and the rest shredded. One file added to the charity bag.

I have been working on emptying our two freezers. One in the garage is now half empty. May transfer the rest to the kitchen freezer to make the final using up easier. I can then store new batch cooking out in the garage.

Dinosauraddict · 25/01/2022 22:28

Oh gosh @seperatedmum I hope you don't feel too poorly!

Made some progress today (but my main focus has been organisation for the sister thread). In today's to-go pile are 3 pairs of DS' trousers and 1 calculator. Also had collected via facebay one teddy and a towel holder and I unsubscribed from another mailing list (and yes to PP - I feel your struggle there)! I've also got rid of 1.5 black sacks worth of dvd/games cases (transferred the disks to a new bulk case) which has saved a load of space in my lounge unit!

Turtleoo · 26/01/2022 07:10

@LivingDeadGirlUK I probably should, though I deleted webuybooks app a while ago as I found they never offered as much as Ziffit. They might give me something for the ones Ziffit won't take though

8stone13 · 26/01/2022 09:14

@Turtleoo @LivingDeadGirlUK

Can you tell me more about these book buying sites? I've never heard of them & I have tons of books to get rid of so this could be very useful. Thank you 👍🏻

Turtleoo · 26/01/2022 09:28

@8stone13 they are apps. You download them and they have a barcode scanner, so you can scan the barcode of books (and DVDs, CDs) and they tell you how much they will pay you. Free postage, but you have to have about £5 worth to send them off. Often they don't accept a book or only offer 10p/20p but if you also have a few new releases or rarer books they can offer more so you can usually get up to £5 fairly quickly. I did a big book cull last year so don't have much to scan at the mo

8stone13 · 26/01/2022 09:29

@Turtleoo That's great thanks - I didn't know such things existed! I'll give it a go 👍🏻 🙂

Abricot1993 · 26/01/2022 12:59

checking in ( a bit late!)

pollyannaperspective · 26/01/2022 16:02

Not much today - one folder to the charity bag.

I have one pension file still to go through but that will have to wait. We have, however, compiled our combined pensions information and sent to the new adviser - so I am counting that as a declutter of a long standing 'to do' item.

Post Christmas tidy now completed and attic sorted with spare bedding all put away.

I have a busy few weeks ahead, some I will be away, so I plan on some electronic decluttering on my laptop to keep up a sense of progress.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 26/01/2022 18:10

I've posted 2 items, and thrown out some old makeup. Small steps but satisfying to be able to report some progress :)

WildPoinsettia · 26/01/2022 18:27

Yesterday I decluttered the bathroom. Why do we hang onto body creams, shampoos and fancy soaps that we will never use ?

I do use everything. Soaps can go besides the sink for handwashing, if I don't like them much. Same for creams, if I don't want it for body/face then it becomes a hand cream for by the sink. Shampoo I use in the washing machine or as bubble bath. Don't know if any of these ideas helps you for the future.

Turtleoo · 26/01/2022 19:37

Made a start on the dumping bookcase in my office room: Lots of boxes and packaging into recycling

Listed a couple of things on marketplace but not got much hope as not sold anything on there recently. Has anyone else found it's gone really quiet?

Put some unwanted toiletries on Olio.

I've done the half of it - the rest will have to wait for another day

FurBabyMum02 · 26/01/2022 19:55

Did the 'shoe cupboard', where the meters are and makeshift shoe rack for those worn everyday or particularly mucky ones like wellies or gardening shoes. Got rid of 1 pair falling apart, 1 pair of overshoes for a job I havnt done since before covid and 2 tubs of grit that had got a bit wet and all stuck together. But couldn't convince husband to get rid of old trainers that he's keeping just incase the sole comes off his good ones, which happened once 10 years ago 🙄

Wam90 · 26/01/2022 19:55

This thread has really given me a kick up the backside! Thank you everyone 😁. I’ve got a three year old and a 7 month old so time to declutter doesn’t come often but I managed to clear out a lot of the crafty bits that I’ve been collecting, and doing nothing with, over the years! I recycled a load of gift bags that were all tatty and took a bin bag of clothes to the clothes bank. I also sorted my Tupperware drawer and found I have lids with no containers so it all went in the recycling/ bin! My house is still full of clutter but I might be getting somewhere at long last!
I’m going to sit and transfer all of my photos onto my laptop tonight for a bit of a phone declutter!

Wam90 · 26/01/2022 19:57

@Turtleoo I find marketplace is really hit and miss but have much more success with vinted if you can send the items.

Turtleoo · 26/01/2022 20:03

@Wam90 is it any good for non clothes items do you know?
