Have you done or will you do?

I thought I didn't have much today, but did 7!!! Now to get it all folded and put away.

2 today, I do a load a day but the weather wasn’t great yesterday and I’m making a conscious effort to use my dryer less, I’m also using the longer eco cycles to dry after reading about it on here as i do want to do a bit more for the planet but it really is annoying waiting for it to finish as I like it out of the way first thing.

SylvanasWindrunner · 03/10/2021 10:54

We do a load a day/every two days if there isn't enough. We used to let it build up and then blitz at weekend but it was a crap way of life for us, just loads of stuff dirty and then massive mountains to put away. So now we just keep on top of it during the week so it's all under control!

Theoldwoman · 03/10/2021 10:55

@BrilliantBulb

I do either bedding or towels each week. So both go two weeks before being washed.

Honestly @Theoldwoman I would see if you can reduce it a bit. 7 in one day and then even more throughout the week is a extreme.

I don't do 7 everyday! That was just today.

Leaving towels and bedding for 2 weeks before being washed is grim to me but each to their own.

I did a load of my clothes on Friday, a load of bedding from DD’s room yesterday, and a wool wash yesterday.

Will do my bed shortly. (Only do it every other week and only do DDs now and again as she lives away and is at mine one or two nights a week)

RobinPenguins · 03/10/2021 10:55

2 yesterday, 1 so far today, probably another 2-3 to do. I don’t know how we generate so much washing, there’s only 3 of us! It is bed change day though so that accounts for some of it.

Suitcaseseverywhere · 03/10/2021 10:57

I use two towels a week. They get hung up to dry between uses.

As to my bed. There’s only me here and I wear nightwear. I am also disabled and changing my bed is really difficult for me (use crutches most days and am not particularly stable on my feet)

Shmithecat2 · 03/10/2021 10:58

3, same as most other days - whites, colours that can be tumble dried, colours that can't be tumble dried.

Theoldwoman · 03/10/2021 10:58

@Fizbosshoes

2 kids plus 2 adults in this house. We do nothing like 7 loads a week

It won't kill anyone to use a towel more than once - even a gym towel, and beds don't need to be changed weekly. You can wear clothes several times too before you wash them (except underwear)

Same here. We use towels a few times before putting in the wash. There's 4 of us , 2 x tween/teen and 2 adults. I would aim for 3-4 loads of washing per week. I'm fortunate that we have space for a drying rack so I rarely use the tumble dryer.

We use towels 3 times before putting in the washing. Gym towels, once. Anymore is gross. Sheets weekly. Our clothes need washing after a use. We must be grubs.

1 so far today but planning another 2. Really should have washed the kids beds this weekend

Suitcaseseverywhere · 03/10/2021 10:59

Clothes definitely don’t need washed after one wear! Bras socks and knickers yes but other clothes can do another turn. And jeans can do three days.

Suitcaseseverywhere · 03/10/2021 11:01

Serious question. Aren’t you clean when you use a gym towel to dry you?

Said who? You maybe. I don't agree.

Yep 7! That doesn’t include the beds which will have to be in the week.

Clean but sweaty? It's also used to wipe down equipment.

I wear bras, jeans, cardigans several times before washing. Everything else is worn once before washing. Dont wash bedding weekly, towels get hung up and reused until they no longer dry between uses.

PurBal · 03/10/2021 11:03

7 before 10am?!? How long is your cycle/what time do you get up/how big is your washing line?? I can only get 1-2 loads on the line. First load is on, contemplating a second one. Rarely do more than 3.

Suitcaseseverywhere · 03/10/2021 11:04

Ok. You do you. I don’t think there’s any need to be so rude but that’s up to you.

I’m disabled. Getting clothes up and down the stairs to the washer is a major ball ache -
Dd strips the beds but I wash them and hang them up to dry on the racks and pulley.

God forbid being disabled has meant I’ve had to compromise and change my life.

You just be rude and have a go at me.

AuntieMarys · 03/10/2021 11:04

I changed our bed so 2 loads there , a towel load and a coloureds wash. 4 in total.

dementedpixie · 03/10/2021 11:04

Dh's gym towel stinks after it's been used and then sits fermenting on his gym bag all day as he goes straight to work afterwards.

Ilikecheeseontoast · 03/10/2021 11:07

I do about 10/12 loads a week and there are 5 of us (including a baby). I do one or two loads a day to keep on top of things But it’s just constant! Thankfully my mother loves ironing so she takes care of all that for me as I hate it!

RichardMarxisinnocent · 03/10/2021 11:07

I use towels way more than 3 times before washing them, and change bed sheets every 2 weeks. What do people who say this is grim think will happen to me as a result of not washing my towels and sheets as often as you?

And if you do more than 3 loads in one day and have no tumble dryer, where do you dry everything, especially when it's wet outside? I have an airer by an open window but it can only really hold 2 loads.

RobinPenguins · 03/10/2021 11:09

I’ve lost sympathy for the volume of a lot of people’s washing. Every 2 weeks is perfectly fine for changing bedding. Towels don’t need to be washed after every use. Jeans can be worn more than once. Save yourselves the hassle.

Roominmyhouse · 03/10/2021 11:09

Gym towels and clothes definitely washed after one use. Other than underwear and tight tops there is no need to wash everything after one wear. We do 4-5 loads as week for 2 people, towels, bedding and 2-3 loads of clothes. Generally 2 unless there is enough for a white wash which is about once a month.

I love these threads when people declare it grim or disgusting to use towels more than once or not change your bedding 5 times a night 😆

kerokerokeroppi · 03/10/2021 11:10

What time did you get up op?? I just woke up (well woke up about an hour ago but still in bed).
I'm currently doing my bit for the planet and doing the bare minimum 🤣

alphabetspagetti · 03/10/2021 11:11

2 adults & 2DC here. DH does no exercise, I alternate properly sweaty exercise with less sweaty exercise so wear kit twice before washing, DC do sport daily but are primary age so not sweaty yet but often have different kits for different sports; DC both in uniform; DH & I in suit type clothing for the three days a week we're each in the office. DH & DS just wear (clean) boxers in bed; DD & I in PJs which are changed every 2 nights.
I try and keep Sundays laundry free although often put a load on in the evening.
Yesterday I did 2 loads of towels, bath mats etc (changed weekly here), one of dark clothes & one of light clothes.
Friday I did 1 load of bedding (change beds fortnightly, our bed one week & the DCs single beds the other week) & 1 load dark clothes
I do at least one load of dark clothes during the week and one of hand towels/dish cloths/cleaning cloths etc.
